Eivion Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Toni/Ford was decent if abrupt with its ending. Bryan/Hangman was good. First time I can recall catching a Page match, and I liked him well enough. Yuta/Garcia was even better with the crowd completely behind Garcia and Wheeler choosing the appropriate moments to be a dick. The post match with the handshake and Bryan wrapping the belt around Garcia's waste as a jealous and confused Jericho looks on was pretty good as well. 3
supremebve Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 If you want to get a heel turn over, cut Max Caster's rap off on a night like tonight. 8

ChrisPBacon Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Really thought I was being worked, but I will fall on my sword with this one. I was just really looking forward to the OG Elite vs CM Punk, Ace Steel, Danny Dominion, and Kevin Quinn 2
Phantom Lord Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 This was a pretty good show tonight. The start of the show could have been a disaster, but luckily Tony Khan was smart enough to do it in the back and I think pretaped. MJF such a master troll. I kept waiting for him to shit on the Bills and when he did it was beautiful. Moxley really looked like he didn't want to be there which added to his promo. The opening Trio's match was good. I was shocked when Death Triangle won. I figured they wouldn't put two belts onto Pac. Best Friends always seem to come up short in these huge matches which sucks. Storm vs. Ford was all right. Most of the match happened during the commercial which tends to suck for the women. I knew The Acclaimed would get interrupted. It was a great move by Swerve to do it just as the rap was about to start. I can't imagine they would have actually let Max say anything, but this worked better. Nice squash by Wardlow. I have no problems with him being treated like Goldberg. Tony Neese deserved a little better than being demolished though. Hangman/Bryan 3 was a good match. I'm not sure if it is on the same level as the first two, but it was pretty damn good. I was hoping Hangman would win because he honestly needs a big win right now. Yuta vs. Garcia was great. Wheeler heeling it up against the hometown boy was a nice touch. All of this has to be leading up to a Jericho/Garcia pure match and that will be amazing to watch. Overall a good show tonight all things considered. 3
Jiji Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Why does Tony Khan always make it painfully obvious who is winning his tournaments with angles at the start of them? 2
Nineteen Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 YO! YO! LISTEN! The locker room says things are looking scary But The Acclaimed can save the day like Kenny saved Larry ....yeah probably better to not give Caster the platform to get himself fired tonight. 2 2

CEO, Owner and General manager thats a Jerry Jones level of self important titles Overall a great reset, seemed like everyone wanted to work extra hard and the knucklehead weren't missed. Loved Ford and Storm laying it in on each other and Swerve is much better as a heel 2

Peck Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 I can't believe I'm as excited about Action Bronson/Hook/2point0 as anything else in AEW right now. 5

I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of obnoxious chants from the audience. The in-ring stuff, especially Daneilson/Page and of course Yuta/Garcia was top notch. MJF's promo was incredible. I would like a bit more explanation of why MJF is aligned with Stokley but that will undoubtedly come. Moxley needs to come up short in the tournament and start a heel turn. I thought the opening segment showed what MJF is capable of. Sometimes he's strayed too far into shoot comments and edge lord shit but this was great. Gets the semi-hometown / weve missed you pop out of the way and then he goes back to heel. Mox is a great face of the company, looks and acts like a hard man you wouldn't want to have to take in a fight 4
TheVileOne Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Someone else posted this on Twitter, but yeah, Tony Khan really owes Jon Moxley a spot in his will after tonight. It was as good a show as you can expect in light of all the chaos. Considering the whole brawl appears to be in legal territory for now, we probably won't be hearing from or about any of those guys involved for a long while. AEW really needed people like Moxley, MJF, etc to show up tonight and they did. I think having Swerve interrupt The Acclaimed's promo was a stroke of genius. I think this will be the perfect segway to putting the belts on The Acclaimed. Swerve costs himself and Keith Lee the belts and turns heel on Lee and they feud. 4

He tried to get the Lucha Bros to leave Pac for him and failed, tried to get Darby to leave Sting for him and failed, now he's doing the same thing with Dark Order members. I know FTR getting the AEW tag team titles is what almost everyone wants but I wouldn't mind Andrade and Rush taking them from The Acclaimed after they have their run. He needs to keep going down the roster till he gets someone who will say “yes, I’ll join” like Peter Avalon or someone. Except Andrade doesn’t listen and is like “you don’t wanna join me? Then I’ll see you in the ring” ”no, I said I do want to join your team” ”I’ll see you on Rampage, and I’ll kick your ass” 1 5
MoeCristyV.1.6 Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Give Westside Gunn all the money to make "DR Birds" Garcias theme song! 5
Dirty J. Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Goddang what a show, I kind of missed out on all the backstage dramas, but luckily for them there are still a ton of amazing wrestlers to carry the company. Only negative that I have is that the Best Friends don’t seem to catch a break. Maybe if Chucky T shows a little bit more personality (which he definitely has) they could carry the faction to the next level. I’m kind of glad they ditched Wheeler and Statlander, they are a solid trios team that always gets a reaction from the crowd (and AEW og’s).
DreamBroken Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 THIS IS DADDY ASS'S HOUSE! One of the most over stars in 2022, Billy Gunn. Love it. I thought for sure that was the Best Friends' moment as well, sad it was not to be. Moxley was killer in the promo. In hindsight I wish he could've just retained and continued his epic run. Agreed that Toni needs another finish. That DDT isn't working too well, even Mickie James often struggled with it. Even though she won the interim with it, the commentary was completely confused and thought it was a northern lights counter. Bryan/Hangman was awesome, really dug the finishing stretch. Yuta/Garcia also awesome, great pop. 3

SirFozzie Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 (edited) Ok. Watched it live, and rather then reacting then (because it would have been gushing fanboy-level shit, I was that pumped up), fell asleep for a few hours. Now, However is the time to REACT. Highly professional way to open the show. No attempts to be too cute, refer to things in an oblique way, and the fact that they didn't even say any of the suspended folks names (due to the ongoing investigation) or show their faces makes me think it's a shoot. (If it is, the fact that Punk is likely out long term (I've heard a year) due to his injuries means they likely will not turn it into a worked shoot later. MJF is such an ass. The question was if he could even keep a straight face for five minutes. Shameless face pandering to let the crowd kinda get it out of their system, and then going back to the Maximum Cheap Heat stuff. Mox wasn't having ANY of this crap. I wonder if Tony let him leave early as a thank you for coming in on his day off. Honestly, if Moxley was a bit (ok, at least five-ten years) older, I'd buy another Minoru Suzuki tour and let the two of them run riot (not Ruby) through the backstage, beating up anyone who doesn't take pro wrestling and the RING seriously. (Someone in the middle of a silly angle? Suzuki-Moxley show up and beat the shit out of them, and just walk away.). But seriously, this was one of those things where the emotion behind it made the promo organic and thus, awesome. The trios match was well.. insane. Danhausen Falcon Punching Alex's jimmies was awesome. Danhausen also immediately getting the RECEIPT from PAC was DOUBLE awesome. Triple Canadian Destroyer was Triple (of course) Awesome. While I think that Orange/Friends deserve a trios title run, they're an act that doesn't NEED the belt right now, while Death Triangle have been stuck in neutral collectively (other than PAC's title) and needed the belts more. One complaint. Way too much taunt spamming at the beginning, but at least they got rid of it as the match went on. They should have gone straight to the finish after the Destroyers, but that was a minor quibble (it conditions folks to only expect a pinfall after a finisher) I feel sad that this looks like the end of Dark Order, with Andrade headhunting Vance. Toni Storm-Penelope Ford was to me, a meh to meh+ match (but that's a lot because there was so much insanity in the other matches). No challenge in the result really The Acclaimed. Oh god, this could get spicy.. Swerve interrupts so we'll never know what Caster was going to say (which is another reason I think the brawl is real. Caster would be EXPECTED to meta-comment on the whole thing, so, don't even give him a chance to speak.) I'm probably going to catch some heat for this, but heel Swerve's facial expressions remind me of a famous rapper. Sadly, it's Flava Flav. The thought of the pop in two weeks when the Acclaimed (Hopefully) win the belts in NEW YAWK CITY! warms my pro-wrestling soul. If you told anyone from the Ruthless Agresion era that the top catchphrase in 2022 is "Now Scissor Me, Daddy Ass!" they'd wonder where the hell things went wrong. Wardlow is so stuck in neutral, some of this because well, they won't give him anyone real to squash so it's just a one-hit wonder hitting that one-note over and over again. They need to figure out.. something with him. fish or cut bait. Then again with the other titles hot potatoing lately, maybe it's good that Jade and Wardlow hold down the secondary singles belts with an infinite lock. Danielson-Page 3 wasn't on the levels of the first two, but that just means it was **** awesome instead of ***** awwwwwwwwesome (and truth be told, Jericho half-spoiling the result in his promo took away some of the shine from the match). Sad that Wheeler Yuta is no longer the Pure Champion but it's great to see that there was no shenanigans, and they give the fans what they want. I half-question why this was the main event behind Danielson-Page, but I get that they wanted to finish with the hometown pop) They threaded the needle very adroitly. It looks like we won't see or hear from any of the fight parties for several months+, which while sad, is possibly the best for the roster, where they get a chance to shine. The brass ring is available boys, now grab it. Edited September 8, 2022 by SirFozzie 4
The Natural Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Bryan Danielson gets his win back vs. Adam Hangman Page after losing to him on AEW Dynamite, 6th January 2022. Bryan Danielson gets his win back vs. Chris Jericho next week after losing to him at AEW All Out 2022. Bryan Danielson gets his win back vs. Jon Moxley at AEW Grand Slam Dynamite 2022. Danielson lost to Mox at AEW Revolution 2022. Bryan Danielson is the new AEW World Champion. Better late than never as Tony Khan fixes his fuck up. 3 1
The Natural Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 How things would be different if Jon Moxley kept the AEW World Championship after the squash unification match in Cleveland or at AEW All Out. Not surprised CM Punk injured himself again in the latter match with how he was favouring his arm. CM Punk getting another injury and probably knowing severity of just thought "fuck it" which led to all THAT afterwards. Fragile ego. Fragile mind. Fragile body. What a prophetic promo by Jon Moxley. 3 1
Andrew POE! Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 I honestly wish MJF would sod off forever with CM Punk. Apparently, his shoot promo three months ago is fine now but CM Punk's shoot press conference isn't (fight notwithstanding). If Tony Khan had more of a backbone and wasn't trying to be everyone's friend, MJF would be sitting at home or if he came back, he would be losing every match he did on TV. MJF would be nowhere near the AEW World title and it would be Hangman Page in MJF's spot or one of the other wrestlers from the Casino Ladder match setting up the tournament last night. 3
