If Tony Khan had more of a backbone and wasn't trying to be everyone's friend, MJF would be sitting at home or if he came back, he would be losing every match he did on TV. MJF would be nowhere near the AEW World title and it would be Hangman Page in MJF's spot or one of the other wrestlers from the Casino Ladder match setting up the tournament last night. Same.
AxB Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 The MJF vs AEW feud is McMahon vs Austin, only if the company was the babyface and the wrestler was the heel.
Jrag Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 I want a 3 month Dragon/MJF feud for the title. MJF has broken free of the 4 pillars stuff and is clearly in that top tier of the card now. We talk about how young Garcia is, but it’s also wild how MJF has complete control of the crowd by age 26. He’s money and Tony knows it. One of the best things going in wrestling and absolutely going to speak that bidding war into existence. 1 1
w. josh Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Danielson vs. MJF with a satellite feud of Lee Moriarty vs. YUTA and at least one extended Stoke/Regal promo battle sounds like the best possible way to end the year. 4

Umm...I think the difference is that they gave MJF a microphone to go out on the show and say what he said. Punk, who has spent his entire career adding a bunch of "shoot" backstage shit into his promos, decided to act like a bitch about someone doing the exact same thing to him. Honestly, every complaint he has is a complaint that multiple people could have about him. Him accusing anyone else of behaving like a child while having a temper tantrum is absurd. He is the exact person he's complaining about. I believe that MJF was legitimately upset about his place in the company, his pay, and probably multiple other things, and they trusted him enough to let him go onto live television to speak about it. He aired out his grievances without throwing anyone else under the bus. That is not nearly the same as what Punk did. Punk got personal with a bunch of people in a public forum that lead to a brawl. The 26 year old was able to say everything he wanted to say in a way that could reflect poorly on himself, but no one else. The 43 year old started a fight with 3 of the people who founded the damn company. 12
Technico Support Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 (edited) Good show and good layout. Get the bullshit out of the way right away and then fly right into the good stuff. AEW is going to be okay, guys! How is MJF so good at playing a heel pretending to be a babyface, but then so bad at being just a heel? It's amazing how everything pre-Moxley was so good, and everything after was so bad. Mox was on fucking fire. Just rallying the fans and troops after all this absolute bullshit. Give him the belt for 5 years, fuck it. "Just be a little better than you were yesterday, even if you're the only one who notices." That shit hit me in the feels, as the kids say. I was hoping they'd give the belts to the Best Friends to keep the feelgood stuff going but Death Triangle is fine. WIld-ass trios match, as always. They should really lean into it and just have Rick Knox ref all these matches, sitting in a lawn chair at ringside with a tropical umbrella drink and only come in to count the pin. No JR tonight! I swear he quit over TK not settling this the way Watts would have: KUMITE KUMITE KUMITE KUMITE Did Jericho mention facing Danielson in his promo? Not "I hope he wins so we can fight again," but actually like it was going to happen and he fucked up and gave away the booking? Note: I was drinking at this point. Holy fuck, let Danielson and Hangman wrestle at least once a month. These guys make magic every single time. Hangman is pretty good for a dumb fuck who doesn't listen to his elders. 40 guys at ringside in bright red outfits looking like some Handmaid's Tale or Us shit. Beeee caaarefuuuuuul. HEEL SWERVE is so great. WARDLOW IS TIRED OF THIS BULLSHIT. Out of control Wardlow is going to be great if they commit to it. Excalibur goes over the Pure Rules and then Garcia and Yuta forget to shake hands before the match. LOOOOL TK needs a proxy to make these announcements. He's so socially awkward and his crazy eyes weird me the fuck out. Acclaimed are winning the belts in NY and it's going to be awesome! Ford and Storm were great! Garcia unifies the ROH Pure and PWG World titles!!! Incredible match, but not as good as Hangmin/Dragon. But what could be? Ethan Page as Wish.com The Rock (which is who he always wanted to be) is lame. Page's gimmick is "has charisma" but he was outshined by LEE MORIARTY of all people there. It's already been said, but this is such a credit to their roster. They REALLY don't need CM Punk, for so many reasons. Edited September 8, 2022 by Technico Support 8

The Natural Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 I'd say Jon Moxley is the biggest AEW signing ever, one of two to join AEW with Chris Jericho as it was starting up and carrying the company in 2020 as AEW World Champion during the global pandemic. Mox is having a career year this year after coming out of rehab, becoming Interim AEW World Champion then Undisputed AEW World Champion. Wrestler of the Year. 5
Matt D Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 I liked the ROH PPV Garcia vs Yuta match a little more, but I thought things opened up when they were in the corner and messing with the turnbuckles during the break. The crowd was lovely for it and the struggle was good. It was just a bit tricky due to the shifting face/heel dynamics and I'm not sure it was put together (or really was able to be put together) in a way that maximized the crowd. Even things like the Germans I didn't mind because the selling was escalated and they weren't killshots execution-wise so much as mat returns/takeovers. It just needed some clearer beats that the crowd would be able to latch on to, maybe? I remember the ROH PPV match being very tight and very crisp and this was a little more nebulous. Garcia sacrificing a rope break early to get the hip toss over the top was probably my favorite moment though. 8

Pete Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 EDIT: because the first part of my post got eaten somehow. They basically went OHMSS last night, only they didn't even need to address the elephant in the room because everything was so killer. Seriously, did ANYONE miss Punk, Omega or the Bucks after Mox's State of AEW promo and the entire roster stepped up to the plate like Aaron Judge taking BP? God bless that crowd, they were 100% vested in babyface MJF and he dropped the other shoe like a GD nuclear bomb. "JOSH ALLEN SUCKS!" In case anyone was wondering about Garcia's gear: Spoiler Buffalo flag. All in on the local kid done good. 8 1

Now it finally makes some sense. 1
just drew Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 (edited) The only thing that I didn’t love about that main event was that someone had to lose. Wheeler Yuta is rapidly moving up my list of “guys I make a point to watch.” He’ll be fine, obvi, but I pouted for a second… Edited September 8, 2022 by just drew 5

dorfus malorfus Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Not much too add. I tuned in hoping to see Moxley, Jericho and Danielson exude stoicity and professionalism in the face of their rostermates behaving like spoiled children and I got it. Tuned in to see MJF be MJF and be crazy over and got it. Tuned in to see the Acclaimed and Daddy Ass be over like crazy and got it. Wanted to see great wrestling, logical build towards Grand Slam, and basically just a bunch of corrective measures re how the ppv was booked and how the aftermath went and all.ot it was there. Fantastic 2 hour wrestling show. Hangman losing didn't seem off in itself but the fact him and Danielson didn't cut any promos backstage made me wonder if Page will be phased off TV for a little while due to his involvement in all the Punk and Elite drama (not as punishment but so the fans don't turn on him, as they were at times last night). Would have been interesting to put the title on him as an indication that TK runs the company and not Punk but clearly Moxley is The Guy so the timing wouldn't be right in any case. 5
Matt D Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 I got big Ultimate Warrior night after Wrestlemania Weekend and his HOF induction vibes by the end of the Mox promo. It was a hell of a thing though. Really think the move would have been to put the titles on the Best Friends. They represent a lot of what is good and pure and fun with the company, but I also don't know what the Cassidy/PAC plans were meant to be. I get that people like Death Triangle, but that just felt like the move to me. I couldn't bring myself to watch Danielson vs Page yet, by the way, even if I saw everything else. Oh, and after Sammy putting Jericho's promo back to him instead of the main event... for what it's worth, another match I'm quietly really looking forward to is Sammy vs Garcia. Styles make matches and I think that clash should make for a really good one. 5

Which brings up the question as to why they weren't included... seeing how they were the finalists on Sunday, unlike both of last night's participants. If you're going to strap Death Triangle, fine... but put Dark Order in there with a sub for Page and make it a three-way. 2
Ryback Hates Bullies Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Whether true or not, they stated that Dark Order were carrying injuries - Silver has implied on Sunday that the Buckshot left him being unable to turn his neck. But probably the real answer is that they have to decide what they do with Hangman next, and they're leaving things open. Also they probably decided they wanted to be sure of a decent match, and a 3 way '9 man tag' might have broken down quite easily. 1

All of the Dark Order are either injured in real life (Reynolds) or injured in storyline (10, Uno). That just leaves Silver & Hangman, and the latter was already booked to be in the title tournament. 2

To their credit they covered this in kayfabe (injuries) later in the show I wonder if House of Black would’ve been in consideration had Malakai not left
Matt D Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 I also expected a lot more out of the PENTA/Cassidy interaction. It's possible that each guy only works properly when they're up against a "comedy base" otherwise known as a straight man, I guess. 1
