Curt McGirt Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 That Macbeth might be the closest thing to this in a live format (btw, you are missing out on one of the darkest and most gripping pieces of cinema ever if you don't watch it) http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x272nl9_shakespeare-the-animated-tales-01x03-macbeth-eng-subs_shortfilms That was on HBO when I was young with, sadly in retrospect, Robin Williams introducing it and explaining what a Greek tragedy was to the audience. Who knew that his life would end up as one then... Anyway, if that reaches the hights of Titus with Anthony Hopkins I'll be very pleased. Also, consider me on board the Prometheus boat, it had its flaws which we've all hashed out here but it was a good movie. You can't get a new Alien every time around.
Technico Support Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 I really really don't want to debate Prometheus again but, as a guy in the anti-Prometheus camp, I just want to say that wasn't horrible, just disappointing. It was such a missed opportunity. The original script was so much better before Lindelof and the studio stepped in and I think that's the most bothersome aspect of the whole thing. Every edit and studio-mandated changed made it incrementally dumber, a death by a thousand cuts, until we got the disappointing, movie by committee mess we ended up with. Again, just my opinion and enjoy what you like, etc etc.
Niners Fan in CT Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 What did they change? I've never looked into it. I know people hate Lindelof and I know people hate the religious aspects but what was different about the original script?
Technico Support Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 The key thing requested by the studio was to remove pretty much anything that would make it an Alien sequel/prequel. I guess they wanted to make it more audience-friendly, I don't know. This includes changing the location of the film from LV-426 to a neighboring planet/moon, which makes no sense given how we see the same "seated engineer" setpiece in both films. Here are a few articles about it. I've read the original script and it's funny how there aren't that many changes, but they do add up to make it a worse film. Here's the original script if you'd like to check it out. Again, I don;t think it was a bad film, just not as good as it could have been because the studio was like, "let's make an Alien sequel, but we don't want an Alien sequel."
Curt McGirt Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Warner Bros. had tapped the Daredevil TV show guy to make yet another script for a live-action Akira film. *sigh*
Kuetsar Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Apparently there is a review embargo on Jurassic World until tommorrow, which is not a positive sign. . . . 1
Jiji Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Yeah, it's probably going to be the shits but I'm feelin' like it's '93 all over again and have my ticket ready for Friday night.
The Z Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 First reviews are coming in now and it's pretty mixed, but not as bad as some feared.
Niners Fan in CT Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 First reviews are coming in now and it's pretty mixed, but not as bad as some feared. It's up to 70% right now on RT. That at least tells me it probably isn't awful.
Dolfan in NYC Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Chris Hemsworth has been cast as the receptionist in the all-female Ghostbusters remake. 1
J.T. Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Chris Hemsworth has been cast as the receptionist in the all-female Ghostbusters remake. Chris Hemsworth will be Janine Melnitz? I can't see it. I assume he will be the love interest of whomever plays Egon's anima.
J.T. Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I dig this, but I also encourage folks to check out the 2008 documentary, Man on Wire.
Craig H Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I have watched Man on Wire so many times that I don't think there will be a need to see this. 1
nate Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 http://youtu.be/eKSeSX-dzso I dig this, but I also encourage folks to check out the 2008 documentary, Man on Wire. When I was watching the trailer, I thought, "A remake, then?"

That at least tells me it probably isn't awful. Sorry, almost reported you by accident. Jurassic World is a movie with lots of stupidty in it, but it´s also a lot of fun. The people involved definetly had the first movie in mind with a lot of hommages and throwbacks, threw some violence in there and did quite openly state that it works as creature feature, leaving out lots of the pseudophilosophical or -scientific malarky. I actively enjoyed it, and despite a heavy emphasis on "fan service", they use a lot of small clever things to differentiate it from the original. I´d rate it quite clearly above 2 and 3 and had great fun watching it. It kind of feels like they simply did what they had to do and made it work. Still, you will probably facepalm a lot if you watch it expecting a master piece.
EVA Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Chris Hemsworth has been cast as the receptionist in the all-female Ghostbusters remake. That is hilarious. You win Round 2, all-female Ghostbusters.
MarcosLoura Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 This looks gooooooooooooooddd. I've been hoping for Ben Foster's big moment for over 10 years, love the dude. 1
Reed Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 The world can never have enough "Lance Armstrong is a sociopath!" movies and documentaries, IMO.
