username Posted July 17 Posted July 17 I think these sort of hooded/blindfold matches are more of a satisfying narrative device than one that leads to decent in-ring matches, so I'm not sure there is a path to get them to work for a modern audience outside of comedy? It's also way too easy for the heel to cheat in them, to the degree that people will just be waiting for it before buying into anything. That said we have people around doing the mist still, if we really wanted to the set-up to one of these matches would be remarkably easy to set up and I believe Malakai Black is exactly the type to think he could try and work a match legit blindfolded so... basically I think if we all tweet hard enough we could convince Danielson to try that as well and create some true art. 1
odessasteps Posted July 17 Posted July 17 I could see Danielson wanting to do a shoot blindfold match. 1 2
Elsalvajeloco Posted July 17 Posted July 17 That's an interesting experiment. Jeff Jarrett and Ken Shamrock had a match on Raw in 1999 where Ken had to wrestle in a straightjacket. Since Ken is so use to different forms of grappling and doesn't actually need his arms, he legit used his legs as arms and absolutely made it look unfair that a human could know how to adapt that way. He could lose both his arms and still fuck you up in a fight. That's scary. It was also amazing and extremely entertaining to watch. At this point, I am pretty sure Bryan Danielson doesn't need his eyes to wrestle. Matter of fact, his eyes might be holding him back. 5
zendragon Posted July 17 Posted July 17 The match where Cena had to wrestle Daivari while wearing a hood is actually really well done
Technico Support Posted July 17 Posted July 17 (edited) We're forgetting PAC working with a bandage over his eyes for part of a match after coming back from HOB's blinding. Edited July 17 by Technico Support

Awww. I was thinking we could do a replay of the classic JYD/Chris Adams blinding angle but that kind of makes it seem done already. 1

Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBbq05gXX10 Shamrock slipping all these submissions onto Jarrett with only his legs is fantastic. This match rules. 4

twiztor Posted July 17 Posted July 17 i think the Jake Roberts/Martel Blindfold match is great. they have the crowd going apeshit and eating out of the palms of their hands. The crowd reactions alone add an aura that no other blindfold match i've seen can live up to. 4

Oh man, that is the most Attitude Era shit ever. I guess this is why Jeff started training MMA? Anyway, it does rule, but makes me wonder what Jarrett's timeline was that year because I know he was in WCW that year and into 2000. 1
BloodyChamp Posted July 18 Posted July 18 I just saw an Instagram reel that was doctored up to look like somebody walking into the building to the old Raw is War bumper looped guitar riff. Somebody entering a building saying nothing and doing nothing but walking, to the sound of that music, is 1 of the bad assest things in the world let alone in wrestling. I hate to say it because I was a WCW man but it’s true. It’s up there with a football team walking through a tunnel CLICK CLACK, or the Chicago Bulls theme. 1

The Good Housekeeping match against Chyna is at No Mercy '99, and then he's in WCW right after that. 1
