  1. Cornette wrestled a Ninja Turtle in his own damn promotion. He should shut the fuck up.

  3. If James Ellesworth wins a smackdown match, 10 chinless jobbers should celebrate and hoist him on their shoulders as "We are the Champions" is played.

  5. You know what I miss in wrestling? A babyface winning a title and the entire locker room of babyfaces emptying in to the ring to celebrate with the new champion.

  9. Just rewatched main with Japanese commentary. Jesus, anyone thinking that "nothing happened" the first 15 minutes is out to lunch. I mean, if you think the match was too long what do you cut? What section of the match dragged? I mean, not much happened the first 3 rounds of Ward and Gatti and that turned out to be many people's pick for "greatest fight ever." Did the Red Ink knock off a star for people? The pace they worked out, the crispness, the selling, the insane bumps (Okada landing on his fucking neck on that dragon) was just next level. And, most importantly, the match had stakes. Too often it seems that matches are viewed in a vacuum divorced from time and place. It's why I have a hard time seeing match of the year as being an dream match on an independent show (like the six-man at at BOLA, which was fantastic in its own right), or just some kickass match on a PPV/iPPV that has no real impact or isn't for anything except bragging right. This was the main event of the second (or third) biggest show of the year for the second or third most prestigious title in the world. I would hope it would take 35 Rainmakers to put a challenger away. I would expect the champion to survive 40 V-triggers. That was epic wrestling that told a story that still brought next-generation athleticism and action. To be fair, on first watch unspoiled I was still coming off the insanely emotional Goto match and the awesome Naito match so yeah...it took me a few minutes to get into the main event. Going back fresh, though, nothing about that match dragged at all. Omega is great, but anyone who discredits or dismisses Okada is no different than people like Skip Bayless who spend their time denigrating and disparaging Lebron James. It's over. Get a new gimmick. This one is tired.

  12. With Cornette- there are very few rules in life to dictate a "good mind for the business". When "Cornette actually said on a Guest Booker that he wanted the InVasion matches to be decided in literal shootfights between the WCW name and the WWF name", that's one of the "you lose your right to be considered a good mind for the business forever."

  15. Here is my Segunda Caida review of the main, short answer, didn't like it, thought it was paced weird and while the big moves looked cool, the rest of the execution was wonky http://segundacaida.blogspot.com/2017/01/2017-doesnt-make-list-six-star-edition.html

  16. Someone asked a non Omega/Okada fan their thoughts early in the thread, and I'm that guy. While I thought the match was REALLY good, and I really can't wrap my head around the idea of this match being "the best ever". It wasn't even the best match on the show I thought(preferred both the Kushida match and Tana/Naito). Will admit that part of it is because I had already heard an insane amount of hyperbole before I watched it, so that dampened my thoughts SOME, but I also just don't like Omega's work, and it has nothing to do with his goofy shit from before. I just think he and Okada both are extremely poor at making moves mean anything beyond their finish. Their was a hanging DDT on the floor in the first 10 minutes that literally meant nothing 5 minutes later. Huge ass move after huge ass move with no time to breathe. A fucking top rope dragon suplex is a finish, so fuck outta here with that. The whole thing felt hollow to me. If I were invested in NJPW, Omega or Okada, maybe I'd feel different, but at first glance, it's like the 20th best match I saw in the last 12 months. This may come off as asshole-ish, but to me, it's literally impossible for the current big match style of pro wrestling to deliver the "greatest match ever", simply because the craft of making everything matter is lost.

  18. I think it would have to be AJ by default, since I think he is the best in-ring wrestler they currently have. If they felt really inspired by New Japan they could somehow do Styles/Nakamura.

  19. Saw this on Reddit. Apparently this was from the 1/6/17 edition of Bryan & Vinny. I'm just picturing some of these guys trying to show some of the match to Vince and them trying to sway him away from anything involving Roman Reigns once again. STYLES IS GOING ON FIRST NOW.

  21. Just got off the phone after she's had her follow-up appointment. The surgeon took out a 13mm tumour, stage 2 ductal carcinoma in situ from her right breast, as well as about a cm around the tumour and some lymph nodes from her right armpit. Tests on the lymph nodes for further strains of this existing cancer and other types of cancer have come back negative. Pretty much a good indication that the cancer was localised to the breast and hasnt spread. There is NO need for chemo and for me to shave my head in sympathy efforts/ability to form a right said fred tribute act. She is to go back to the cancer specialists at the L&D on Jan 20th whereupon she starts her course of hormone therapy for 5 years. She is free to drive and do light housework from now. She is pretty much set now for radiotherapy in 6-8 week. She's doing it lads - she's going to fucking smash it.

  24. Just finally saw this and as much an asshole as he was you gotta admit he worked his ass off. Fly here and get this guy. Fly there and kill that guy. Get yelled at by Tarkin so you gotta go over there and find all of this...wait, someone betrayed us over there? Well where's my ship, I'll go kill him then. Then go see Vader and make a case to him and collect soiled shorts up and fly over to fix this thing. Oh, they're attacking that? Fine, I'll go climb this thing and kill them myself. And that was like 48 hours of his life. I kind of liked that about him, or at least sympathized. Everyone else was basically just standing around looking cool and he was like Michael J Fox in THE SECRET OF MY SUCCESS trying to look cool and glide around like the big shots, but as soon as no one was looking he was running to the next disaster, shaving in his car, bringing prisoners home to torture after hours while scarfing down a t.v. dinner because it was going to be his ass and not Tarkin's or Vader's when the next disaster didn't get mopped up before the boss sees it.

  28. Glad you've finally read Batman: The Black Mirror. It's still Scott Snyder's best Batman story and one of the best in the history of Batman. I miss Dick Grayson's Batman. Least we have the Dick as Bats books by Grant Morrison and Snyder.

  40. I hate arguments like this. It totally discounts that Walker was a five tool player that ran the bases as good as anyone and was arguably the best defensive right fielder in the game for a good stretch. Hall of Fame voting has devolved to reading the backs of baseball cards and forgetting about excelling at the game itself. I loathe Curt Schilling as a human being, but his clutch pitching in the playoffs should put him in. I wonder if Sandy Koufax would get elected these days or would he get the didn't do it for a long enough time argument. I am a Rockies fan, and arguments like that concern me about the future candidacy of Todd Helton or any future Rockie.

  41. 4 stars for a good match, half a star extra because he digs Japan, half a star extra if he was there live. That's how I figure Dave's system. The extra star comes from where, because Kenny's friends with the Bucks?
