Zimbra Posted September 12 Posted September 12 I would love to know whose idea it was to do a loose change angle on 9/11. Jericho feels like the obvious answer but I could see Briscoe having a pretty rough youtube history. 4
Octopus Posted September 12 Posted September 12 I am so happy we’re getting Danielson vs McGuiness. 4

Normally, I'd say no way they did such a thing on purpose, but then I remember that time Cole and Hangman did a barbed wire crown of thorns spot as a street fight finish on Good Friday, so there might actually be something there. If it was, I would think it was done as a rib on Jericho, though. 3 hours ago, RazorbladeKiss87 said: I got the feeling that they'll play Final Countdown and he won't show. Nigel will crow about it for a while and boom, you have your Wrestledream main. It would be a hell of a flex for TK to pay the Final Countdown fee for a no-show, but uh, that's not happening. Not sure what to make of all the late changes to Grand Slam. Seems panicky, but maybe there's a real reason. Underrated moment of the show was Hangman still being unfulfilled and even more deranged with Jarrett playing the wise old master. Great stuff from everyone, including the extras emphasizing how far a once-respected locker room leader has fallen. Edited September 12 by Go2Sleep 1

The Natural Posted September 12 Posted September 12 AEW Grand Slam Dynamite 2021 is the GOAT AEW Grand Slam Dynamite for Bryan Danielson vs. Kenny Omega, my 2021 MOTY and for a long time my #1 AEW match ever. Gave it *****. A great but forgotten about match there was Sting/Darby Allin vs. FTR. 2 1
DreamBroken Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Perry's finishing knees on Lio looked great. Mariah/Aminata was solid. Loved the Hangman/Jarrett segment. Bryan/Nigel finally happening after all is the best. Ospreay remains the Casino King in this new gauntlet format, him & Fletcher vs the Bucks should be a lot of fun. Huge pop for the Outrunners definitely had me kinda wanting the upset there. 3 1

Grand Slam Rampage had Punk’s first TV match in 7 years versus Hobbs, and the Lights Out tag match between Mox & Kingston against Archer & Suzuki (featuring a Homicide run-in). The Hobbs match wasn’t spectacular, but it was great to see a free Punk match on TV again. I do remember loving the Lights Out tag a lot, though. 2021 to 2022 AEW was unmatched, it was great shit. 4
Technico Support Posted September 12 Posted September 12 You know TK’s a nice boss when he still allows FTR to nut hug Bret even though he worked for the competition Monday. I need to see a multi-tag team figure 4 spot where the last team left, not wanted to feel left out, figure 4 each other. AEW has, by my count, FOUR “one bald guy, one guy with hair” teams. Jesus.
Steventon Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Amazing we are getting Danielson vs Nigel in 2024, and it'll be an actual grudge match rather than some respectful legends affair. The Moxley vs Darby section was a bit janky in logic but awesome in execution. Maybe the best Darby has ever come off on the mic. Lots of intrigue here. Does Darby win to finally beat Mox then dethrone Danielson in their home state? Or do we get Uber-Heel Moxley shitwheeling his way into the title match, retiring Danielson, then Daby finally overcoming him? All paths feel like they lead to Darby finally winning the big one and Danielson losing at WD, it's just what roads we take. 4

Love the Vincels piping up after the Jericho angle. "DURR HURR WWE DID THIS YEARS AGO." No they didn't, they outright destroyed a new car. AEW mildly inconvenienced a guy by dumping loose change onto his whip, and turned him into a giant ninny. Pretty genius stuff and Jericho was hilarious selling the "destruction." 3 1
AxB Posted September 12 Posted September 12 The pinnacle of car destruction angles was the Sid vs Goldberg feud in WCW. Two weeks in a row, the literally crushed expensive new cars down to scrap for a crowd pop (that you couldn't hear because the crushed car was revealed in a backstage segment). 4
Curt McGirt Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Being WCW they didn't even have to crush expensive cars considering they didn't show them crushed, but did anyway? Jeeeeeeeeez. (I probably read that in Nitro but forgot. BTW there is a Nitro book 2 coming up soon from the same author.) My thought about the change was "how much is that gonna scrape up the paint job" and "how much would it cost to buff out". And also "man that is an expensive way to moderately inconvenience someone who can afford that car, especially if they can keep the money". I skipped the tag closer -- especially when I saw Ospreay and said "well whoever he's with, they're winning" -- and missed the rest so I'll get back to you. 1
EVA Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Being a nuisance with the coins fits OC and the Conglomeration’s character more than destroying the car. The problem was that it just wasn’t enough coins to have a big visual impact. They should’ve gotten a professional jelly bean guesser to estimate how many coins it would take to fill up the car. 2 1

When Callis and Kyle were trying to butter up Ospreay, Kyle said something to the effect of "I've never had a better partner then you!" Funny enough, I picked up on Osprey saying, "I'm no Davis", so I was just glad they weren't ignoring the big Aussie in his absence. Not enough glorious mullets in AEW! 7

Make someone new. Who do you think is ready? I’d almost want to put it back on Swerve (eventually). Maybe Osprey or Okada could be considered even if they are otherwise occupied in different divisions. Otherwise I’m drawing a blank since I kind of agree the Darby isn’t quite ready. But a win over Mox might just do the trick. 2

I caught that as well - my immediate thought in the moment was that deeper into the match, we'd get Takeshita and a returning Davis as a team, leading to Fletcher turning on Ospreay and all of em doing a 3 v 1 beatdown/elimination 1

Oh yea definitely but I was chalking that up to chicanery at the time - even so, you make a great, great point about those tag matches (especially as a whistle-whetter for a potential Ospreay/Takeshita singles, either as part of the CC or as a standalone INTL title match). I could also see a world where you have Fletcher vs Ospreay matched "by coincidence" in the CC, and what starts out as Ospreay besting Fletcher in a baby vs baby match between friends ends with Fletcher turning on him post-handshake/hug after the finish (maybe even essentially doing a version of Nigel's 'it should've been me' promo in the follow-up, with regard to Ospreay's banner year here so far)
For Great Justice Posted September 12 Posted September 12 (edited) I don’t want to sound like that guy, and I love Mox, but running an angle where an on screen character says in 3-4 different segments that AEW sucks, rubs me the wrong way the same way it did when the NWO did it. If AEW sucks, why should we watch the shows? Didn’t like it then, don’t like it now. Edited September 12 by For Great Justice 2

If AEW sucks, why should we watch the shows? Didn’t like it then, don’t like it now. Dave? Meltzer said the same thing. I don't get that reading. Nor do I get overlooking such an excellent promo from Mox - to answer your question, a great reason to watch AEW. Jon Moxley is an angry deranged heel who was a top star/Champion and right now isn't. He's fed up (you might call it whiny) with the 'egos' in the back. Think of him as a 2024 AEW-Punk, but on screen - where you can do business as he likes to say. The angle started with 'this is not your company anymore'. This Jon Moxley is an 'unreliable narrator'. Also, Darby his rival, the babyface, properly put over AEW in his promo talking about what it's meant to his life. Further, Dave always simplifies that (at times very bad) WCW trope. The nWo hostile company takeover, at least for that first year, needed that talking point, the years that followed, maybe not. And I'm sure there's much better examples from the later lean years. Dave also suggested that nobody would do this on WWETV? Huh, I mean I know we've moved on from McMahon, but GM Pearce takes lumps from Drew specifically on a near weekly basis. There's a shit ton more examples too. Edited September 12 by HarryArchieGus 6
