That, and Hangman stapling his kid's drawing to Swerve's face.

Opener was quite the banger, but do we really want an Okada who only wins with "Low Blow Rainmaker"? Some do, some don't, I guess?

Hayter gives Saraya something to do for a change. Be careful what you wish for.

I really liked the story of Nyla vs Mariah May.

Didn't CEO already beat Shida once? No Kamille will definitely make the match worse.

Would you trust Moxley if he said he just wanted to talk? Wearing a white T-shirt, no less? Also, what would compell you to want to talk to Darby? I can understand (not justify, but understand) putting him in a bodybag and throwing him down a flight of stairs, but talk? Just why?

Takeshita v Mortos will be awesome, but now only one of them will get to that Continental Contender match.

The main event Trios match was fantastic with many interwoven stories from the past of so many of the guys in the ring. As you may have noticed, Mox was nowhere in sight when The Elite got involved AND he apparently has NO problem with Jungle Jesus.

OKAY Hangman, that's one way to heat up the Cage Match. Depending on what Swerve paid for the house, it can be cheap heat, or not!

Having Okada cheat to win when he doesn't have to, to emphasise what a heel he is, is fine in isolation. Doing it in a company where most of the heels cheat to win already, and more matches than not seem to end in interference, is a load of shite and bollocks. He's fucking Okada, just have him beat people clean, because he's fucking Okada, and then be a dickhead about it afterwards.

This. I miss NJPW Kazuchika Okada since he signed full time with AEW, only seen him vs. PAC at AEW Dynasty 2024 and vs. Claudio Castagnoli on AEW Dynamite, 21st August 2024.

Looks like we are getting a 3-hour Ramplision special including all the Continental Challenger matches (9 am tomorrow J-time. Check your local listings)!

There is something to hang one's hat on with each of the matches that have been announced thus far.

To whit:

Blackpool Combat Club (Bryan Danielson, Wheeler Yuta, Claudio Castagnoil & PAC) vs The Elite (Jack Perry, Kazuchika Okada, Nicholas Jackson & Matthew Jackson)
Continental Contenders Challenge: Orange Cassidy vs Bryan Keith
Continental Contenders Challenge: Lance Archer vs Mark Briscoe
Continental Contenders Challenge: Konosuke Takeshita vs The Beast Mortos
Deonna Purazzo vs Hikaru Shida
MxM Collection (Mansoor & Mason Madden) vs House of Black (Brody King & Buddy Matthews)

Dang.

Kind of hoping it doesn't mean having to endure listening to Nigel bully poor old Tony S and misuse fivedollarwords for three straight hours. Possibly just a me thing, but I really can't find my way into enjoying that at all. And I really like Nigel as a wrestler and i marked out seeing him in the ring at Wembley. But boy oh boy does his heel announcer act ever rub me the wrong way.

On the upside, though... Takeshita vs Black Taurus?!?! Dang. They just keep banging out those "Dream Matches We Didn't Even Know We Wanted"

Also Briscoe vs Archer is one of those where I feel like they are booking matches specifically to spark joy in the smouldering husk where my heart used to be.

It's amazing in a very specific way how this insanely talented roster keeps wringing fun and excellence out of foregone conclusion matches. I mean that as an honest compliment, which I hope makes sense.

This was definitely the most memorable part of it for me as well.  I also think the blood drinking spot was pretty awesome, but I'm definitely a blood sucking freak in that regard.  Plus I always just like the thought of Hangman and Swerve hanging out as buddies and going "You know what we should do.....?"

I'm having too much frickin' fun watching professional wrestling these days. The MJF/Garcia opening was solid. I look forward to the day when the mother/wife/partner-slut-shaming trope is something from the past. Family attacks in general are completely overused in this promotion. Other than that, mostly good mic work from Jake Friedman. Garcia's words were fine to dumb, but his intensity was good enough to sell it all. More live mic reps, will surely find Danny fixed into the upper card. The Briscoe promo was his general infectious insanity. Production has long needed to improve the blocking of interviewees. Ospreay slides in, and we have two ppl with gaps dangling to the side. Later, the OC/Jericho/Keith segment would've benefitted from a slight mobility to the camera work. Positioning, and mobility of the camera/men, are two areas long in need of greater awareness. Fletcher v Okada was tremendous television. Nice showcase for Hayter v Rene Gade. I'm cool with Jamie murdering opponents for awhile. The Hook/Roddy segment was fine if cloddish. Ha, the Mox/Shafir segment was fantastic. 'A Sweet Boy'! Loved that. Yeah, Marina looks cool, but also a bit lost/clumsy. Still, kinda love this duo. Mariah v Nyla was really strong. Mariah worked around Nyla so well, and I love how she took the majority of the match. Production needs to be a lot more ready with that overhead cam for the bedswimming taunt. The Purrazzo promo was fine. Deonna is a really good talker, but I often find these 'Succession(?)' promos lacking a strong point of focus. Minor complaint. The Mone/Shida segment was good. Shida's mic work has improved greatly during this 'Oktoberfest' run.  Good Perry/Bucks promo. I was hoping, and later delighted, that a Jacksons v Wheeler/Claudio bout would come of this. Tag Team Wrestling (clap, clap, clap)!  Pac/Claude/Wheels v Ospreay/OC/OR was an excellent quarter hour. O'Reilly is a great team player. I look forward to him getting his future flowers. Their chemistry is strong, I wouldn't mind OC/OR strapped up as Tag Team Champions. After the Elite post match attack, nice touch and appreciated bit of logic to see Pac mixed up and fighting with Ospready in the back. The Hanger/Swerve segment felt like a big AEW moment. Nicely set-up with that earlier Swerve promo. Such an excellent feud. ALL OUT baby! These recent weeks of AEW 'selling matches' has been excellently executed. Not always a strength of Olive Elite Wrestling. The smile stretching across my face as I recant the details of this show tells me Dynamite is my #ichiban television program. Bring on the weekend marathon of mat ack-ack-ack-she-un!

I actually prefer the Page/Moxley Texas Death Match from AEW Revolution 2023 to the Page/Strickland one at AEW Full Gear 2023. Am I the only one?

Good knowing I'm no longer alone preferring Page/Moxley Texas Death Match, AEW Revolution 2023 to Page/Strickland from AEW Full Gear 2023. Cheers StuntmanCrowley, Zakk_Sabbath, Zimbra, porksweats and JLowe.

I liked that part. I didn't like the blood drinking at all and I think we're going to get it again here but the roles reversed. I hope I'm wrong.

One thing I have absolutely loved about the latest development in the Swerve/Hangman angle is that since the TDM, I've been a real worry-wart about how they would be able to top Swerve-at-cribside - and throughout months and months of speculation, I never fathomed this route.

In a promotion where things are often predictable (not AT ALL meant as a dig, the logical path is usually the right one) this shit blew me away. When you can knock the socks off even one of your most ardent-fantasy-booking sickos, you're doing something right. Huge kudos all around.

Quick thought I had catching up on the last couple pages during a meeting that could've been an IM, nevermind a fucking email:

I am 100% willing to die on the SHIDA = ACE hill - that woman WAS the division during COVID, and to this day you can put her in there with damn near anyone and get something watchable. I've probably missed an Elevation or Rampage here or there, but I'm guessing I've seen 99% of her AEW output, and gun to my head I'm struggling to think of one that'll make you go "Oh yeah, that was a stinker..."

@username i think you make a great point on Britt, it's gonna be a real uphill climb for a bit as far as this conversation goes - and that's based purely on the overall perception since the Mercedes bout, without even getting into her health or anything else personal that might be affecting her performance

Also think @Hail Sabinmakes a great point about Riho possibly being in that conversation were she stateside more often. Which got me thinking: another person in the same situation (coincidentally a Joshi herself) is Yuka Sakazaki - like Riho, I think if she were around more often, she could easily be an anchor of the division.

I've often wondered if they originally had bigger plans for her - like she's one of the few women on the video game roster, and was among the first to get a shirt, for example.

Shida will always be my favorite AEW woman simply on the fact that my daughter asks me every single week since she first saw her wrestle "Did Shida wrestle this week Dad?" and it makes me always keep her in my mind.  Shida(and to a lesser extent Thunder Rosa and Io Shirai) are my daughters favorite wrestlers.  It doesn't hurt that she is absolutely fn awesome in-ring.

Appreciate the perspective on the “ace”. Shida has never done much for me but I can see the case that people have made. Britt was arguably the biggest star and had a couple of their marquee matches but she’s also never been someone you could put anyone with and have a good match. Toni Storm is making the strongest current case, she’s a star and has good matches with everyone.

Hard agree on that too though - I guess when thinking of Shida as the Ace, I'm looking at it more from an "all-time," totality-of-her-last-5-years perspective. But yea for sure zero point zero question Timeless was the MVP of the division if we're keeping it to this year

Shida has been Hit and Miss for me. Hitting at times more than not. Missing nearly always in the form of displaying really slow and weak looking offense. Everything else is always consistent, so when she's beating her opponents all tight and crisp-like she's in the conversation for best, or 'Ace'. I'm with J to the Lowe on Timeless, and Hayter is totally in this conversation. I'm a big Riho fan as well. Such a smart worker, and seemingly never discussed as such. Since returning this last time around as 'Oktoberfest' Shida, Hikaru has been consistently excellent. I really admire the work she's put in on the mic too. She's displaying more character lately, and it's working. I have very high hopes for her v Mercedes in Chi_Cago.

AEW has slowly and surely turned their womens division around.  I still want more womens matches per show/PPV and desperately need Womens Tag Belts, but the division is absolutely stacked especially with Hayter being back.

I'm an obvious Hangman guy and his road to the title is one of my favorite arcs of all time....but while emotionally I think it was better....Toni Storm/Mariah May might be the best written story in AEW history and by a good bit.

Mariah, Willow, Stat, Toni, Mercedes, Britt, Jamie, Thunder Rosa, Nyla Rose, Anna Jay, Saraya, etc etc.  The division is absolutely stacked right now.

Riho doesn't get enough love and it's absolutely disgusting how's she treated by the IWC, particularly by a certain Cult who i won't give any acknowledgement to by naming.

I added an EDIT just to remphasize how much I want womens Tag Belts.

Agreed on Mortos/Takeshita.  Briscoe/Archer was a bloody brawl and that ruled as well. Deonna/Shida was shorter than I expected but good.

I love the Collision main event blending into Rampage and just continuing from there for a good while more. Great all star 8 man. Loved the finishing stretch. Claudio catching Nick mid-springboard into the Swing was the best.

This current feud got me thinking.  What would be your best feuds in AEW?  My memory is hazy from the early days, but i'd interested to see some consensus on where this one ranks.

Dark Horse for the list has to be PnP v Best Friends for the parking lot brawl alone.

Can't believe I forgot Timeless Toni Storm vs. Mariah May. Fuck.
