Curt McGirt Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Hey, that Mediafire joke wasn't really a joke...
Ramsey Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 I'd be all for the Harley Race vs. Mr. Wresting II from the Omni...80 or 81. If it exists, I want to see it. Also, there's got to be more top shelf Barry Windham/Ric Flair battles out there.
Pete Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 That's the thing- the "Collection" gives you all sorts of options. I would love a "Before they were Superstars" collection of guys working as enhancement before they hit it big. See Mick Foley get his jaw broken by the Bulldogs! See Michaels get nuked by Kamala in MSW!
Go2Sleep Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 So I watched the Thesz/Gunkel '51 match for the sheer novelty of seeing a match that old. I wouldn't say it's particularly exciting (there's a lot of 5-minute holds), but it's neat when you take a historical/academic approach. In some ways, it shows how timeless a lot of wrestling tropes really are. Gunkel works as the upstart babyface and Thesz works as the semi-heelish grizzled vet that's caught off guard by a lower-ranked opponent. Gunkel controls most of the mat action, while Thesz resorts to body punches in the ropes to get most of his advantages. Gunkel gets the first fall after wearing Thesz down with headlocks and body slams. He controls a lot of the second fall too, until Thesz hits a standard powerbomb which might as well have been an avalanche burning hammer in the context of this match. They sell the move like death, to the point where the ringside doctor won't let Gunkel continue to the third fall giving the Thesz a TKO win to retain his belt.
Matt D Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Just of the stuff we've gotten in the last month, I'm not convinced that Buzz vs Rich was all that better than Michael Hayes vs Doc in the cage. They're real close.
hammerva Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Watching Samoa Joe vs Regal from UPW and man this developmental actually makes Deep South look professional. It looks like they were running in a night club with the weird seating and horrible lighting and the announcers doing commentary during the match that everyone could hear. I mean at least it was a good crowd unless Ohno vs Rollins FCW match which was probably in front of 75 people.
odessasteps Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 I think this is the kind of stuff the network should be doing more often, to appeal to the lapsed fans not watching the current stuff. Their money is just as good as people watching nxt or main event. 3
Wyld Samurai Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 I'm pretty sure it's their end goal of having the WWE Network be a digitized wrestling museum. Vince soent decades accumulating libraries and now they have the technology to make money off it - and doing so are preserving a lot of history thst would have otherwise been lost to time.
kafkonia Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 If I could get the Network without having to either sign up for cable or find a VPN, I'd probably be giving them my money every month. But living in Canada, those are my options.
Wyld Samurai Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Last night I came across a fun tag match that just goes to show how far guys today have fallen. Strike Force vs The Bolshevicks in a Best 2 of 3 Falls. A match I vaguely remember seeing when it was originally broadcast in 1987.
PetrolCB Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 When was the last time they even ran a 2/3 falls match? Single or tag.

NintendoLogic Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 The Revival and American Alpha had a 2/3 falls match a couple of months ago. If you want to limit it to the main roster, Sheamus and Daniel Bryan had one at Extreme Rules 2012.
PetrolCB Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I totally blanked on the AA/Revival one. Was that on regular NXT tv or a special?
Hamhock Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I'd like to see either of the first two Ole/Dusty vs. Assassins tag matches from the Omni in 1980.
Go2Sleep Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Zayn and Joe had a 2/3 falls match earlier this year. Ziggler and Cesaro had one a couple years ago.
Matt D Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 The fact of the matter is that they've apparently been sitting on this for years if not decades. On the one hand, I'm glad they gave it to us, but if we get a "Hidden Gems" sort of collection more than once a year, I'll be amazed. They'll probably get six times more watches by putting out another collection of Randy Orton's greatest matches. 1
mysterious_w Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I stopped watching the Battle of Atlanta halfway through Ole and Ellering. I stopped caring real early in for Sawyer and Rich, even with intro promos. A failed grail.

Niners Fan in CT Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 That's the first person I've seen so far anywhere who didn't at least enjoy it. So the story I'm seeing is that this was just on a random house shows tape in the vault? Is that right? Wouldn't someone have known that prior to now?

I was responsible for the shitty entrance lighting that may have cost $120 bucks. Triple H was actually there as a replacement for Taker. 3
twiztor Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 re: Last Battle of Atlanta Spoiler can someone identify the run-in at the end for me? obviously i'm not up on my 1983 NWA

Had my friends in the US freeze at a key spot repeatedly. Even with no problems my feed is always 1-3 minutes ahead. So that's alright.
