  1. I remember HHH using this really weird version of My TIme right before he switched to Motorhead. They took the lyrics out of My Time and used some kind of weird distortion. IIRC, it was right after it was revealed that he was the guy behind Austin being run down. It only lasted about a month before he went to Motorhead. He also had a really shitty theme during his initial post-DX heel turn. Found this video that chronicles his themes over the years

  2. If Sasha Banks had said that shit, we'd have 4 pages of pro wrestling philosophy hot takes.

  3. “Born again” Dustin and the eventual “Goldust is back” stuff with Venis ruled. It was awkward Russo bullshit but everyone involved, especially Dustin, hit it out of the park.

  4. No, that was Real World Seattle. Season 2 is San Francisco. Speaking of which, those of you that are so inclined to read such things should check out Judd Winick's excellent "Pedro and Me" graphic novel, which chronicles his time as part of the season 2 cast, and specifically his friendship with the late Pedro Zamora. I know some folks are down on Winick's superhero work, but his creator-owned stuff is top-notch.

  5. If NXT today was a thing when Nikki and Brie came up, they'd both be mega over from day one on Raw. Those two were thrown to the wolves and the fact that both are competent workers and solid on air personalities is a credit to how hard they work despite some hardcore fans given them shit. Like it's disgusting Nikki gets "John Cena sucks" chants during her in ring work.

  7. On a slow re-watch on SNME and it really strikes me how truly great Honky Tonk Man. Great promo, good chickenshit heel. The promo he cuts on Savage and Liz before the Main Event in '88 (Hogan and Andre II) is glorious and then then him, Sherri as Peggy Sue and Jimmy all ham it up and dance in the ring. It's just glorious heel shit. He's def one of the wrestlers that you can't appreciate as a kid and I always remember purists sniffing at how cartoon character his gimmick was but he's quickly going up my list of favorite 80s WWF acts.

  11. Next to "The Game", my favorite HHH theme is Ode to Joy.

  12. Sting's "Crow" theme should have only been used once at Starrcade. That theme along with the continued use of the stoic Stinger character turned me off of him in '98-onward. You cannot beat "The Man they Call Sting".

  13. 1) Zayn/Nakamura is the best by a decent stretch in my books. I don't mind them "borrowing" from other matches, as it was the perfect introduction of a (legitimate) superstar to a new fan base. The entrance and entrance music literally gave me goosebumps. The crowd was probably the hottest they've ever been for an NXT match. Sami didn't just play a role, he kept up with Nakamura and his selling was on full display. I'll take Zayn's selling over Gargano's theatrics all day. The violence level was so beautifully built up slowly but surely in that one. I was shocked to see Big Dave only give it 4.5. For me, it was an easy full 5 boy. Looking back on this and then juxtaposing it with the rest of Shinsuke's WWE/NXT run is really depressing. He's beyond hope if he can't tear the house down with AJ at Mania. 2) I'd probably go with Zayn/Neville here because of the narrative and final third of the match. Unreal American style pro-wrestling and Zayn proved that it's not impossible to have an old school babyface work with modern fans (even if he dropped an incredible f-bomb during his moment of truth). 3) Zayn/Cesaro. Sami fighting from underneath is wrestling heaven and Cesaro being the superior athlete and wrestler worked wonderfully. 4) Sasha/Bayley from Brooklyn. The height of the 4 horsewomen, who, imo at least, have been pretty badly exposed in a lot of ways by shitty Vince booking on the main roster. But for this night all was right. There was some sloppiness but the emotions were going in this one. 5) Pete Dunne/Tyler Bate from the May TakeOver. Best WWE produced match of 2017. I should probably watch the December TV match. 6) A Revival tag. I don't know which one I liked the most. The TakeOver match with AA was really special. They had some great matches with DIY, probably the best of the bunch being the 2/3 falls but I really loved the dynamic of the 3-way with AOP. The DIY matches did have a lot of things that irritated me (guys rushing to get in position for spots rather than working towards spots more naturally, overly cutesy timing and scenarios) but were overall amazing. I'd probably run with the 2/3 falls DIY match. 7) Regal/Cesaro would rank very highly. Wonderful psychology, no use of the ropes, just old school mat rasslin with two greats. Cesaro's athleticism, strength, and youth slowly but surely takes over the match. The Regal promos in the build-up were some of the best in recent memory. Soft spoken, underdog babyface Regal is so fucking great, particularly when you keep in mind he played heel 95% of his career. What a beautiful end to a remarkable career. 8) Almas/Gargano 3. I clearly have a negative bias toward Gargano but I won't deny this was anything less than a classic. 9) Lynch/Banks. Really nice change of pace from the women and Becky's best match by quite some distance, right? 10) Revival/AOP/DIY Defo agree with Beech on Black/Dream. I saw them in Vancouver run a barebones version of the match that really won over the crowd. They added some layers to that structure and took it to the next level. Fantastic match. Oney Lorcan would probably be in 2 or 3 matches in the bottom half of a top 20 for me. He is a walking flesh sack of intensity. Heal up and kick some more ass, please. He and Itami brutalized each other. The Almas encounter was probably the best of the bunch so far. The really long Joe/Zayn match was a bit weird but would end up on my list. They really tried to push the limits of Zayn selling and Joe murdering to the point it started to become a little unbelievable that Joe couldn't put him away. It was, in that regard, a similar formula they improved upon for Almas/Gargano III but without losing focus on the heel.

  17. Hmmmm. So, I was reading this and "Live events will also be accessible anytime as part of the VOD library which also includes complete access to the ROH TV Archive, and the VOD Vault containing historical events, compilations, interviews, and more" So the question on my lips is the VOD Vault as it stands is terrible. So is that going to actually include the full ROH archive? I can't be alone is having a stronger interest in seeing old ROH, reliving the CZW feud & seeing Homicide's great chasing of the title at the tail end of 2006 and stuff before I got into it. I mean, you own the tape library, might as well use it. I know it's a very different promotion now but if they aren't going to utilise the library they'd be as well getting paid to put it on somewhere like Powerbomb or Highspots Network.

  19. I have all the shows on dvd but the 1991 wcw sat night shows are random quality. If i could have anything on the network it would definitely be 1991 and 1992 wcw tv. The early 91 horsemen vs sting, steiners, pillman, lex feud is one of my favorites of all time. Then you get into 92 and you get the dangerous alliance. Lets not forget the amazing Austin TV title matches. Can it be April already?

  20. Sasha Banks gets bonus points from me for channelling her inner Chuck Taylor in the Ironwoman Match by making Izzy cry. Your list is a pretty good primer, although Bobby Roode has personally never done anything for me.

  21. Best obvious current WWE Themes: Roode and Nakamura Underratedly good current WWE Themes: Roman Reigns (The opening is so good and it just pops or angers the crowd perfectly when it hits), Kevin Owens (Again the opening somehow just suits him perfectly), Dean Ambrose and AJ Styles theme (I was cool on it at first but it's won me over) and the Bludgeon Brothers theme is so simple but ends up stuck in my head for days. Most obvious bad current themes: Seth Rollins (The "burn it down" hasn't helped, but the way it just stops and starts results in Seth walking around to silence at times), Carmella's terrible Iggy Azalea rip-off, Underratedly bad current WWE themes: Everyone of Jason Jordan's themes are bad; I've never liked Samoa Joe's fat guy strut music, Cedric Alexander's Drake rip-off music; Tozawa's Kill Bill/Makai Club rip-off music; Actually a lot of the current themes sound like someone going "Make it sound like Lionel Richie" to which the music guys just go "I guess we should just straight up rip off Lionel Richie" (AKA Rich Swann's music). Most underrated amazing classic WWE Theme: Hulk Hogan's. Not 'Real American' (Which is probably a Top 5 all-time WWE theme, but is so obvious) but this one (I don't know if he ever game out to this but he should have. As good as 'Real American' was, this one is just perfection)

  24. Speaking of theme songs: I just heard Triple H's pre-Motorhead song My Time, and somehow I never noticed the repeated references to "Mr. Dunn." It's weird, because in 1999 it was essentially an in-joke for people that worked at WWF and fans that read the Observer.

  29. ROH recently went in and remastered all of their older shows. I am hoping this means a full VOD offering! $120 for every ppv and live event is more than worth the money though.

  34. Women in wrestling get a bad rap period in the WWE until the Divas Revolution. Lita got called a slut on her retiring farewell. Layla-El was sent off with boos. And I am pretty sure Nikki and Brie will never get over the fact that compared to the Divas Revolution stars and AJ Lee, they were hogging the limelight from more preferred acts. I find it hilarious that Stephanie insists on being the voice and motivation of the Women's's Revolution.

  35. It wasn't an all-time classic or anything, but Undertaker v Jeff Hardy for the Undisputed title on Raw way back in '02 was a really fun underdog vs monster match.

  37. I know I have some pretty terrible opinions. But I hope that everyone can agree that Mauro is the fucking worst. On a 2 1/2 show, we get references to people trying tide pods and the Philly cops putting the Crisco on the poles and "holy beep". And then the ultimate thing for me is you have this incredible match and you know it is near the end and this fucker is talking about the Super Bowl. I understand he had to work on his own because Nigel was sick but at this rate he is just announcing to hear himself talk it is so bad.
