Does anyone else think this was one of the best put-together Dynamite episodes of the year? I thought everything flowed smoothly and came across so well this week, and it's also got me massively excited for Joe vs. MJF, though I'm wondering if they want to do it at Grand Slam or save it for WrestleDream.

I think this was one of the better, most forward-moving episodes of Dynamite in a while, with very little wasted time, and everything really seemed like it came off close to perfect. Liked having Orange Cassidy have a little moment at the beginning than linger as Moxley, Fox, and Darby came out for the opening contest. I thought it gave a nice little edge to the opening contest. I liked that Darby came out with Fox at the start to give a little moral support for him. Moxley wins and looks strong, and then they transition seamlessly into the segment with Christian.

They packed a lot into that first 20 minutes or so, but it all came across well and was not rushed because it didn't feel like they were having everyone run into the ring and interrupt the match to get their spots in. The transitions felt more subtle.

Kris Statlander vs. Emi Sakura; short-ish match and title defense, but did the job of building up Statlander. I actually got a kick of Roddy's little sit-down testimonial talking about his parents, sleeping with a BB gun. I've never thought of Roddy as a big promo guy, but since he turned heel he's actually been holding his own incredibly well.

Aussie Open vs. Le Sex Gods was a good TV match. I'm assuming they are building to some sort of blow-up between Guevara and Jericho. It's somewhat amusing how many face and heel turns Jericho is going through. He's now basically become AEW's Big Show. I'm assuming they are going to have Guevara and Jericho win the tournament with Jericho turning on Guevara, or they lose their tag title shot. If it leads to a Jericho/Guevara feud it could be something good.

Not sure if MJF vs. Joe was the original plan post All Out, but it works perfectly, especially as a way to test out babyface MJF. Joe and MJF had great chemistry, and Joe has always been gifted with his promo ability. Great beatdown by Joe as well with MJF selling the neck injury.

Another good transition for this segment having the Joe/MJF promo segment segue into Adam Cole's relationship with MJF, Strong's jealousy and then having Strong escorted by Kingdom for his match with Trent. All that flowed really well to get us from a long talky segment and then to a match, all while reinforcing multiple main storylines going on. Strong and Trent also had a good TV match this week. Taven and Bennett played their roles perfectly this week. Loved how they made sure to check on Strong's neck constantly and put his neck brace back on after the match. Nice touch.

I'm enjoying Toni Storm's new old-school movie star gimmick. She does it well. Her throwing the shoe at Renee was also hilarious. Renee also did tremendously playing off of Toni's schtick.

Definitely on board for a feud between Swerve and Hangman. That was a good way to get it started. Mogul Affiliates was bad, not really Swerve's fault, but I think Mogul Embassy works better for him, especially Prince Nana. Nana dancing to Swerve's music was perfect this week.

I didn’t get the last PPV. I wish I did so I could see the main event. I always wondered what the people at the absolute top of who we all think are the best thought of OC. Dax talked him up huge on his podcast. But I did not know about anyone else.

OC having a main event PPV match against Mox is such a huge endorsement. Mox rules so hard. There is no way Mox is going to have a match for a secondary title unless it is with someone he really respects and knows he can have a classic with. Mox would probably have a World Title match with absolutely anyone no matter their level — that’s the business. But some weird title they kind of just made up for no reason a while ago? No way.

Dragon put OC over so big in that press conference. He said (paraphrasing) Mox is the best in the world right now, but OC is in the conversation. And I do not think that Danielson was just being a company man — he really means it.

There are still people in my circle who say they don’t like OC’s shtick and don’t understand why nobody kicks him or punches him when he does the soft kicks. That just shows that people aren’t watching, because people always fire off on OC when he does that, or they do their own mocking version. But then OC a lot of times uses that against his opponent right after.

I was not that into OC before his injury. I liked Best Friends as a unit but OC’s shtick was amusing but not anything I really would go out of my way to watch.

But since his return and the title run, he has had nothing but good to absolute fantastic matches. And none of them followed any real formula — all completely different. And he had bangers with Kip Sabian, Big Bill, an epic Memphis fight with Jeff Jarrett, Lee Moriarity, Yuta and I can’t even remember. Keith Lee? And they built it so well week to week with more injuries adding to the list, which meant he had to be more clever each time with his Bugs Bunny escape wins. And his final title defense came right after he gave a really epic promo as only he could, with the “I don’t have a catchphrase” becoming his catchphrase.

I don’t think we have had a weekly “not quite the main event but sometimes the main event” act like OC since The Shield tore down the house every week before they grabbed the top spot.

Either way, he just finished off one of the best runs with a midcard title ever. That was an absolute masterpiece of a saga. And even though Danielson has forgotten more about wrestling that any of us will ever know combined, I have to disagree with him. Mox is the one in the conversation because OC is the best in the world right now.

It is for me, and it's weird why it is. I love that you can totally see the strings. He's playing a heel, playacting as a face. What I like about it is that it isn't the usual pro wrestling face turn where suddenly they're a good person. He's still that baseline "scumbag", but you can see that he's getting off on the crowd cheering his stuff, so he plays into it even more. I don't buy that he's actually turned over a new leaf. It plays like he's doing it to feed his own ego, but maybe in a more positive manner than running down the crowd every week.

Yeah, I believe this, too! I'm starting to think that he is actually being sincere this time, but he simply does not know or comprehend what being a babyface means, so he is just doing the things that he remembers legendary babyfaces doing when he was young. He hasn't really changed, but since he is being sincere, he's doing his damnest to not be the biggest asshole in the world and is thus overcompensating the other way to a ridiculous degree!

Konnan! Best thing he ever did, and most over he ever was.

I remember reading about that, but I don't actually remember seeing that, unless he also did it in his MLW appearances? In any case, I was referring to Random Task in Austin Powers...

Yeah that was WAY before I ever watched TNA. All I remembered from WCW was "odelay", "viva la Raza", tossed salads, and the laziest submission finisher ever applied.

K-Dog was the fucking worst.

Rampage tonight!

  • Lethal vs Penta: Feels like a bit of a fresh match actually. Hopefully Abrahantes gets a pencil in his eye. Lethal is going to be at the right place at the right time for all of Penta's stuff and sell his shtick well. This could be fun.
  • Bucks vs 2.0. 2.0 Kind of only has one speed and that's steady and focused. Bucks can work a match like that but they often choose not to, so this could either be grounded and great for a Bucks match or it could be a hot mess.
  • Shida/Skye/Britt vs Taya/Bunny/Anna: Some new interactions here (Skye/Britt, Bunny/Taya) and that's always fun. I get it's not focused but I miss all of those Dark 6-woman tags so it's nice to see more of these again.
  • Samoa Joe vs Jeff Hardy: These two have other 70 matches with one another in one way or another. Joe's hot right now. Jeff always gets reactions. I imagine this will work out ok in a solid, enjoyable (3-3.5* on the Meltzer scale) style TV match. Works for me.
  • Sammy stays stuff. I'm sure he does.

Yoooo, a shot where the shoe comes flying in, only to see an arm reach out and grab/stop it mid-air, pause, and pan over to [debuting/returning babyface challenger] is some good shit

See, I would have a twist where it's never been Toni throwing the shoe, it's Thunder Rosa joining with the Outcasts since the AEW mainstays hate her.

See. I told you that throwing his shoe was the best thing he has ever done.

Pretty good episode of Dynamite compared to the last couple of weeks. Great opening "Promo" form OC, now would be the time to consider moving him into The World Title scene if ever.

Also the Swerve v Hangman was a good non rushed promo as well. Hangman got his thoughts in before the interruption. When swerve was signed he was another 200lbs give or take bland babyface guy who works the house style, his heel turn is like a drink of cold water on a hot summer day (this goes the same for Lethal) . And Nana adds so much to his persona.

They actually made me give a damn about Roddy Strong! good match as well, nice bit of variation from AR Fox, Darby and Nick Wayne with the more grounded wrestling!

Always cool to see Emi!

THE PASSION OF MJF!!!!

That lazy submission got me my fastest win in WCW Revenge, 5 second match one setup move and instant submission was never able to do it again

All of that plus he's the only guy to ever get a good match out of Ospreay.
