Ultimo Necro Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 Vince watching Game of Thrones would only ever result in a complaint to HBO over the needless mutilation of Theon. ”we figuratively castrate our talent pal” 1 2

BEN! Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 When's the last time someone actually bladed on WWE TV? Not PPV, not busted open hardway, just zipped themselves on TV? The general public thinks all pro wrestling is just WWE and since WWE's aiming for another big TV rights deal, they probably don't won't to be confused with AEW's blood and guts.
Go2Sleep Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 Given WWE's aversion to people with the same name, I can only assume Gunther Stark will be Zoe's dad or brother.

I will say some times the refs attending to the wrestlers when they hardway lends more realism. There are sometimes when it's takes away from a match

Shortly after there was the seg in March 09 where Jericho bloodied up Flair but I think that was just Flair (one punch and immediately started bleeding), but Flair recently talked about Vince fining Jericho $25,000.

WWE got really strict on it around the time Punk was feuding with Mysterio. I remember Punk being frustrated that the ref had to stop the match, put on the gloves and clean off the blood multiple times. It ruined the match. If I'm not wrong this was during the Linda for Senator run. 1

They should have gone for a supercharged Horsey Sauce but it was just hot BBQ. (BTW, if you want a supercharged Horsey Sauce, get the horseradish sauce that St. Elmo's puts out. That and the remoulade they do are spectacular.) EDIT: If Elias retired tomorrow he could sleep happy over the heat he got from that one comment. Cheap heat, who cares, that is still the loudest most hostile pop ever. It's like a whole stadium heard the Half Baked guy say "BOO THIS MAN" and responded as vocally as humanly possible. Gordi the BJW fan Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 (edited) Damn straight, Eddie Kingston! Atsushi Kotoge is indeed a very good pro wrestler, and a damned fine young man to boot. I HATED what they did to him at the NOAH vs NJPW show. Spoiler Booked him in the only singles match on the show and instead of letting him showcase his talents it was just more House of Torture bullshit. I'd love to see Kotoge fight Eddie Kingston one on one! Edited January 19, 2022 by Gordlow changed "really" to "very" 3

Cobra Commander Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 Using recent naming standards, a millionaire character whose real name is Ted would end up with the name "Teddy Money" Extra note: I've heard at least two "wrong" pronounciations of DiBiase from wrestling clips. The well-known "Dibussy", and also clips from early 80s St. Louis where he's "DiBias"
ReiseReise Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 Yeah, Watts switched between DiBias and DiBiase, although it is not as evident as with Doogan/ Duggan. 2
Cobra Commander Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 I just remembered the time that the WWE aired Kenzo Suzuki vignettes with the ring name Hirohito.. which… didn’t last long!
The Idiot King Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 I don’t mean this as a slight to the performer himself (who I enjoy) or an endorsement of whatever is going on with the new name aesthetically or otherwise, but hasn’t WALTER’s gimmick always been a little uhhhhh Nazi-suggestive? Nazi-flirtatious? Am I crazy?
Cobra Commander Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 There’s probably some nationalities where Walter would have the exact same gimmick and not come off like the descendent of a war criminal, so some of that is probably more about the famous in America post-WW2 Austrians having some familial ties to Nazis. Except for Falco? 1

I mean, Ring Kampf has a word from the title of the most infamous Nazi book in it, but I guess I can't throw stones at people using perfectly innocent German words and trusting that context will mean everyone knows they refute the principles of National Socialism that have sometimes been associated with those words. 2

"Kampf" is just the German word for "fight". Guess what Ringkampf literally translates to? Never understood the association with Nazism from the English-speaking fans

Never understood the association with Nazism from the English-speaking fans I think it's literally just that, for your typical non German speaker, their only association with that word is from an awareness of Mein Kampf being a thing. They don't know the meaning of the word in isolation, their brain just goes straight to 'bad Hitler book'.
