2015 TNA DISCUSSION THREAD

Recommended Posts

I mentioned this before months ago, but did Destination America figure in tiering? Spike is on a lot of "expanded basic" services because it's been a cable channel for years and years (TNN before being Spike). Destination America is a relative newcomer, and thus is usually in some kind of extra-charge "educational tier" or "family tier."

So the question is, would TNA's audience have not only followed them from Spike to Destination America, would they have paid an additional $9 or so a month to do so? We all know what the answer to that question is.

Not when, for a mere $.99 extra, wrestling fans can continue to avoid the WWE Network, until the free trial offers.

I would pay an extra $9.  I'd be doing it mostly to get metrosexual cannibal chupacabra on my tv, though.  TNA'd be just a throw-in.

Seriously though: It's hard to feel sorry for Destination America here.

They could have researched TNA before signing the deal. They could have talked to Spike. Or any wrestling journalist. Or anyone in wrestling. Or even spent a few hours on one of the TNA threads on here. And what would they have learned? Basically: TNA will probably do OKish ratings, but the company is a mess, Dixie Carter is incompetent and they are never going to get beyond a certain level. Instead they apparently signed this deal thinking Impact would do amazing things for them.

Far be it from me to tell a TV executive to how to do his job, but you think you'd do a google search on something before investing literally millions and millions of dollars into it.

I guess they were too busy with mind-controlling monsters, BBQ and evil Amish ghosts to think about this shit.

From what Meltzer has written, I think the issues are that DA believed a much larger portion of TNA's Spike audience would follow them to the channel, and that DA hoped the show would lure better advertisers.  It sounds like it's the same thing that has done Smackdown in with a couple networks.  The show is attracting more viewers than the network's other shows, but the rights fee is much larger and the advertising revenue isn't what they hoped.  The general complaint against wrestling shows isn't that they don't attract viewers.  It's that those viewers don't stay for the station's other shows, and the viewer demographics don't appeal to advertisers (or the advertiser doesn't want to be associated with wrestling).  Thus, you sell ads but you don't attract the most desirable advertisers and you end up charging less for the ads you do sell.  Ad spots during wrestling shows generally sell for less than an ad on a mainstream show with the same number of total viewers.  It's a very soft market, apparently.

As mentioned, they should have factored the tier thing and realized TNA fans without the channel probably weren't going to pay the extra $9 since they have a history of never paying for anything TNA-related. And yeah, it's been known for years wrestling gets crappy advertisers.

Again: I don't know why they didn't look into it more before signing the deal.

We tally this up to TNA not giving a shit about their day one talent

http://www.ewrestlingnews.com/news/mike-tenay-s-tna-future-reportedly-up-in-the-air-due-to-destination-america-likely-cancelling-tna-unlocked

Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Destination America is reportedly planning to cancel TNA Unlocked, which is hosted by Mike Tenay. The show was moved to a new time slot every week, which is usually a sign that the show will end. It’s said that Destination America regrets making the deal and are removing “secondary” TNA programs from their schedule.

Meanwhile, Mike Tenay’s status is said to be “up in the air”. He signed a one-year deal at the beginning of the year. With Unlocked getting canceled, he no longer has an on-air role. It was believed that he could have returned to Impact when Taz left, but TNA decided to use Al Snow instead.

I think it's pretty obvious Dixie doesn't give a shit about anyone when she actually suggested to Austin she give employees lie detector tests.

"Hey, guys. You know how there's no money, your pay is late, if it even arrives at all, and everyone is depressed? Well, I spent thousands of dollars on people to come in and give you all lie detector tests before I don't trust any of you!"

She's either a sociopath or one of the most shallow, incompetent people on the planet.

In fairness to TNA, I had never even heard of Destination America before all this and now I genuinely want to watch some of their shows.

Particularly Ghost Stalkers.

That's confusing; are the ghosts doing the stalking or are they the ones being stalked?

I think the ghosts stalk the people and freak them out.

Then they bring in the camera crews to stalk the ghosts.

There's a whole lot of stalking going on, essentially. I assume it culminates in the ghosts filing a restraining order.

This is the same Dixie that made this speech (as well as videotaping and showing it):

Obviously, that's a question for the Elijah Express

From the "Shit You Couldn't Make Up" department, Dixie posted this on her Facebook:

We welcome Ron & Don Harris (AKIA the 6’7″ twin Harris Bros) back to TNA as they will be tag teaming to head up our production team moving forward.

What news does Dixie think is being leaked?  Nobody ever knows what's going on in TNA.  The wrestlers are the most in the dark of anybody.

Unlocked is useless.  I don't want to watch regular Impact much less an edited version with Mike Tenay's text messages popping up over it.

I always thought they should make Tenay their Jack Tunney.  Just shows up once in a while to make an important announcement since Dixie's not an onscreen character anymore and it doesn't look like anyone's actually in charge.  Plus, he already inexplicably decides the official Top 5 rankings.

Apropos of nothing, I can't remember who demanded that Dixie never let Flair on TV again without a shirt on following his match with Sting. I remember it either being a Spike executive or her mother.
