goc Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Ross & Cornette have both expressed that they have no interest in working for TNA, Sullivan doesn't seem like he's interested in it either & Gabe is busy with his own shit. 3 of them are retreads from decades ago and in the case of Cornette and Ross they have some really outdated ideas that they continually harp on in their podcasts.
mattdangerously Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Yeah, what's wrong with hiring someone with a creative mind who might actually have some new ideas and a fresh perspective? I thought we all wanted TNA to be an alternative to the WWE?
cool arrow Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 It's far too late for TNA to be anything other than what it is, so as long as the tv is watchable I don't really care who's in charge of booking or hiring. 1
nate Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Hire Quackenbush. If for no other reason than the man's got chops in the play-by-play booth. Plus, he's Marvin Gaye/ Barry White of PBP guys ... voice like buttah!
JonnyLaw Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 While I know it isn't coming from the same people, but I'm laughing my ass off at people saying Corgan isn't relevant anymore, while others are saying to bring in guys like Cornette and Sullivan. So you are starting a wrestling company. If you pick Billy Corgan as your main creative/talent resource over Cornette or Sullivan, then you are an idiot. It has nothing to do with being relevant, it has everything to do with running the business. I was originally talking about the polar opposites of those two comments, but if you're starting a wrestling company, and your two options to be in charge are Cornette and Sullivan, you're better off spending your money elsewhere. I think I'd rather have Corgan in charge with Cornette and/or Sullivan as advisors or members of the booking team.
jstout Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 This is a publicity stunt, nothing more. This is gonna get TNA some free press. Hell, Corgan even has a tour already planned, so it's not like he's gonna jump in with both feet. This will get TNA talked about for a day, which is a day more than they're getting talked about now.
Overly Critical Man Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 This is no worse than WWE putting Freddie Prinze Jr on their creative staff. 2
nofuture Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 TNA's problem has never been creative, it's been the person in charge of the company.
cool arrow Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 TNA's problem has never been creative, it's been the person in charge of the company. This is true, but let's not forget that the person in charge of the company hired Vince Russo.
Big Fresh Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Billy Corgan (of the Smashing Pumpkins) has joined TNA. He'll be doing producing, writing and talent development. Hoo boy... from the Variety story on it Corgan, leader of the innovative rock group Smashing Pumpkins, has joined TNA Impact Wrestling as senior producer of creative and talent development and, as such, will have a strong hand guiding such luminaries as Kurt Angle, Bobby Roode and Jeff Hardy and their exploits on TNA’s flagship “Impact Wrestling” program that has airs on Discovery Communications’ Destination America cable network. Rather than trotting out the same old “heels” and “babyfaces” – pro-wrestling argot for “bad guys” and good guys” – Corgan thinks fans are ready for new stories. “There is a tremendous opportunity to go into really fresh, new directions,” Corgan explained in an interview. Having characters who explore race or transgender issues is certainly a possibility, he suggested. “There are ways to explore those themes in ways that are productive, create new stars and show that value-based ‘babyfaces’, no matter what their background, no matter where they come from, can draw new audiences and inspire people in new ways.” "Luminaries"???????
Big Fresh Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 This is no worse than WWE putting Freddie Prinze Jr on their creative staff. Didn't that happen during a period where Smackdown (which he was working on) got kinda awesome???
nofuture Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I can't wait till Billy brings in Courtney Love as TNA's heel authority figure.
Pete Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 "Today is the greatest day I've ever known? I DON'T THINK SO."
cool arrow Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Maybe Corgan will hire Tony Schiavone. Then it's "Today is the greatest NIGHT IN THE HISTORY OF OUR SPORT!"
Hail Sabin Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Corgan told a story on Barbed Wire City that Heyman offered to let Corgan buy a piece of ECW in 2000 I believe. However as you would expect Heyman's offer was as bad as you would expect 1 million for 10% of ECW.
Hollywood Cibernetico Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 As mentioned earlier pro wrestling has a terrible track record of handling progressive issues. Not even 15 years ago TNA was running homophobic, racist, xenophobic, and misogynistic angles. The terrible (in real life) handling of the women and the minority talent (discrimination lawsuits left and right) does not tell me that TNA is going to do this correctly. With Bill Corgan's 'progressive' angles filtered through Dixie's conservative mindset...TNA will be off-the-air by the end of this year.
mattdangerously Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Corgan's a renowned control freak, so I doubt he would have taken the gig just to be micromanaged by Dixie. I don't think anything is getting filtered through her mindset.
RIPPA Posted April 28, 2015 Author Posted April 28, 2015 I dont think the problem is Dixie - it's Destination America Unless Billy is totally cool with the network dictating who his champion is
Matt D Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 I think a better question is this: How long before Billy is champion?
Spontaneous Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 If they bring back the Triple Cage, I'd watch it
CrazyMax46 Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 It's also very possible that Destination America made a simple suggestion and Dixie freaked out and caved. Maybe Dixie has some sort of PTSD when it comes to TV executives after Spike.
Chaos Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 At the end of the day, it's immediate publicity for TNA, which at this point is good publicity just by means of it hitting more mainstream news sources.
Overly Critical Man Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 I can't wait until Psychic Bigfoot is the TNA World champion. 1
cool arrow Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 So long as they bring in Survival Tobita to feud with him, I have no problem with that.
