The way Meltzer reported it, Woo has a similar deal to Slim Jim's WCW deal with Savage. They paid his entire salary in exchange for promoting the energy drink. But in the report it said the energy drink is not doing well and can't get into any stores outside of the local market they make it in. So if that reporting is correct I'd bet they just ran out of funding to keep paying for the sponsorship. The Flair component is kind of irrelevant if they're not making enough to pay for their part of the sponsorship. I'm guessing Flair's salary is a hefty fee. $500k a year maybe? That's a lot for a non-wrestler that really doesn't have a spot with no Sting and no Andrade.

According to Meltzer Flair and Wooo Energy are both done with AEW.  He said the sponsorship "fell through".  I wondered how they ever had the money for it in the first place.  Felt pretty low rent all around.  Apparently no stores outside a few small regional chains actually carried it, it was really expensive to order online, and it looked fucking disgusting.  Tony would be drinking Monster or whatever when he's got the can in front of him on the desk.

Where does this rank amongst shitty food/beverage related wrestling sponsorships?  It's certainly no SURGE

As for Flair I never liked bringing him in in the first place.  He's got so much baggage and I would feel sad and uncomfortable every time he showed up dating back to his many post-TNA WWE returns.  Hopefully Flair doesn't start grabbing headlines by shitting on AEW

My job has me going into a major chain of convivence stores and I never saw it

Jake Roberts offers some food for thought concerning booking:

Quote

On the frustrations of being a booker: “That sucked. Because you would have something painted in your mind that was so beautiful and so good, and so with it, and you know is gonna make money. And you’d get some asshole who’s like, ‘I don’t get it, man. Oh, I don’t want to do that.’ Or they just wouldn’t put the right emphasis on the right times in the match or the angle. They wouldn’t do the right spin on it. It’s the fine-tuning of the stuff that makes you money.”

On the most frustrating wrestler he dealt with: “King Kong Bundy. He can fuck up a wet dream… he’d just shit all over it in the ring. Just f**k it all up completely.”

Does anyone kind of have an imperviousness to caffeine around here? I'll drink those white-can sugarfree Monsters once in awhile, or a Red Bull, or coffee in the morning (and I think Cafe Bustelo is supposed to be pretty strong), but I can do that and just fall asleep if I want.

I drink my coffee black and then keep the caffeine levels up with sugar free energy drinks when I feel like it 🤣  But yeah, caffeine doesn't really affect me or make me jittery and I can sleep with no trouble at all.  I do need that first cup in the morning to wake up, but I'm, pretty impervious after that.

Hiroshi Tanahashi Hey! (EW).

Curious to see how this one turns out.  Aside from the Shirakawa episode, Hey EW falters when English isn't the guest's first language.  The jokes go over the guests' heads because of the language barrier and then it comes off as cruel, completely unintentionally though.  Their lack of understanding accidentally becomes the "joke" and it's uncomfortable to watch.

Has Jake been doing some booking for AEW? I hadn't head that.

It just feels like AEW's TV product is starting to become more like WWE was pre-Triple H.

Didn't they pick up some old McMahon era TV guys over the last few years? That would make sense. I also have a theory that you're limited in your shots you can use if you have a lot of empty of blocked off seats you don't want to show which was the case for WWE for a long time and has been the case for AEW. I'm watching Collision right now and I can see draped of sections and it's super dark in the arena.

I feel like Skye Blye is in a holding pattern until Julia Hart returns.

She seems to have rebranded based on ROH and Collision.

No. Jake was a booker over the years, specifically a short run in the mid-90s WWF, and I assume in some of the territories(?). He's still a contracted AEW performer, so I posted that here. Mainly for the fantasy bookers. It's always good to better understand the parameters and nuances of a far more challenging job than is given credit for. And no booker has been scrutinized in real time more than Tony Baloney.

I can but it's entirely due to my sleep apnea. At one point I was drinking 4-6 energy drinks a day and still falling asleep anytime I stopped moving. Got insurance now and just got a referral for a sleep study so fingers crossed I'll get some real rest soon.

I used to do two energy drinks a day and it worked for a long time until I had moments where my brain got a bit fuzzy and no amount of caffeine would make a difference.  Since then I do just one and mix it with water to dilute it some and make it last longer.  Unless I got no sleep the night before it works pretty well.

The only time I ever had an issue was the time I drank a Monster and then, not thinking, drank a big cup of coffee.  I felt sick to my stomach, had a headache, and almost vibrated into a neighbor dimension.

Does anyone else remember Sheetz?  They were like those listerine breath strips except they a) tasted like shit and b) had as much caffeine as an energy drink

They sent a bunch to our bookstore and we sold exactly zero of them so I ended up with them.  I took two of them at work and had to go home and lay down because I thought I was dying.

It's so odd to me the routing ended up with show 250 being in a small market like Little Rock Arkansas. The max capacity they're set for according to Wrestle Tix is only like 2500. For this stacked of a card? Kind of an indictment of the live events department if you ask me.

It's weird, too, because thinking ahead to Grand Slam or some of the other large-market shows in Chicago, the LA Forum, and places like that, where do you even go from here match-wise? Don't get me wrong: put this shit in my sicko veins - but I would really hate for people to talk about stuff like this years from now in the same way we talk about things like WCW running Hogan/Goldberg on free TV, or something of that ilk.

ETA: Thinking further, though, it may just be that the focus right now is on getting the TV numbers right for the new contract - obviously, in a perfect world, they could serve both masters (TV and live gate) but I'm willing to chalk up this kinda weirdness to something along those lines for now, I think

I didn't even realize the show is in Arkansas.....that's not ideal

A small, hot crowd is fine....the crowds in the Dakotas were way better than I expected....but those are some pretty big matches to be doing in a market like that.  Kind of like when MJF and Omega happened at Foxwoods or Mohegan or whatever

I concur with NoFists, usually they're better about having a show like Dynamite 250 booked for a bigger/hotter market

Hey hey sprewellrimz practically begged me to go but this show is just outside my area. If it were a little closer, I probably would have went.

Also, wasn't Little Rock a big Mid South stop?

Jake booked AAA for a time.

You'd think, being in "Little Rock" you'd want to build the show around Ricky Starks.

ROH to get 'more care' is the word going around concerning the Arlington tapings. I'll settle for the more realistic 'some care', but I'll believe it when I see it. The shows over the passed year have been so care-less that it seems barely anybody even noticed.

Cary Silkin shares his thoughts...

Right now, Ring of Honor it's like no one cares at all. I don't care how much money Tony Khan has. It's not being treated very well.

ROH being "AEW Dark but you now have to pay for it" definitely turned me off.  As others have said, I'd watch if it was part of my existing AEW+ sub, because who doesn't want more stuff for the same price?  But aside from that, nah.
