We're both okay, she needed 38 stitches in her arm. Got hit in the back passenger side wheel so the car is out of action for a while. Pretty sure the accident was my fault but the other driver took off before the cops got there with my information but without giving me hers and hasn't contacted me so we'll see what happens with that. Sucks, but could suck worse. Glad that you're both relatively okay! 2

Dolfan in NYC Posted September 17, 2024 Author Posted September 17, 2024 If you ever want to feel claustrophobic, just read the last sentence of the USCG's report on the Titan submersible implosion: ...why am I itchy.
Zimbra Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 There was an article a couple of months ago (Maybe in the Atlantic) about all the shortcuts they took with development of the Titan and that CEO murdered those people sure as if he'd used a gun. 3

driver Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 Found out today that the company I've worked at for ten years sold the property and will close early next year after seventy seven years in business. The property is going to be developed into an Aldi's. I told them I'd stay until the very end. It's going to be an interesting few months. 1 2
Mike Campbell Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 My older kiddo has taken to referring to her teachers as windbags recently, just as a running joke at home. She's way too polite to do anything like that in school. I'll come home from work and ask how school was and she'll reply "It was good, I got to see all those windbags." 1 4
The Natural Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 Saw Jodie my mental health nurse today. I knew the clock was ticking on us as you only get so many or should I say few appointments. Next month will be the last, ironic on World Mental Health Day, 10th October. We both said how we're going to miss each other. Jodie said I'm an amazing human being and special". Don't know about that but it's very kind of her to say considering I put myself down, I'm worthless and a burden. That's depression for you. 2

Mike Campbell Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 I just had a rather ridiculous phone call with the credit union that my car loan is through. I made my payment last week and apparently miskeyed the amount, so I was two cents (!!) short. I got a letter from them yesterday saying that my payment was short and the outstand balance needs to be payed in ten days (well technically 9 now) or they'll be tacking on a late charge. So, I call them and explain what happened. The lady, obviously reading from a script, tells me that, yes, any outstanding balance must be paid by that date or late charges are added. So I just say, in a somewhat humorous way, "So you guys seriously need me to do an electronic transfer for a total of two cents?" She snickers a bit and asks me to hold. She came back a minute later and said that wouldn't be necessary and that my payment will be marked as made and to disregard any other electronic of mail notices that I get about an outstanding balance. 2

Ask for an address and take two pennies to them in person. Better yet, pay the two cents by credit card so they lose money on the transaction. Edited September 20, 2024 by Technico Support 1 2

After moving out, we got a bill from the utility company for 11 cents. On a postcard that cost them 13 cents to mail. I paid it in-person but resisted the urge to use 11 pennies and did a dime and penny instead. 4

But my wife pointed out that they'll probably have some sort of bullshit surcharge or 'processing fee' for a credit card payment. 1

Shartnado Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 (edited) Apparently, our company has hired Mike Barnes from Cobra Kai! I can hardly contain myself when this guy walks past me. I will refrain from calling him Deacon Sharpe, because there's no way this guy hasn't been called that for the past 20 years, the resemblance is SO striking! Well, if you look like a celebrity, there are WAY worse options out there! Edit. Apparently, he IS only visiting. He is from the company but won't be working here for the long haul. Bummer... Curt McGirt Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Has anybody else had to walk on a job because they changed the entire layout of how you work, to where it's super difficult and makes no sense? Because I think my new boss just did that at Walmart. I mean it's not like I can't find another job, and I'm part time anyway, and they could transfer me to another department. But if this is as bad as it looks I'm out.

But if this is as bad as it looks I'm out. In a sense I did. I was a kitchen supervisor for a chain and they added a ghost kitchen to our online ordering. It basically tripled the business and no one could figure out how to not totally kill anyone who worked the deep fryer. No raises for the guys. I'd put my two weeks in and after a blowout with my GM (I will admit it was alcohol and drug fueled) I walked. Took two days off and started at a better kitchen. 1
Curt McGirt Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 I think I've made up my mind, and either it's gonna be a department transfer or I'm out then and there. Apparently if you quit there's no two weeks and they just cut you a check right then and there so that isn't something I'll have to worry about... just got paid so they don't even have to cut the check. I took the day off yesterday to stress over it and if this job is gonna cause me that much stress -- which will just keep dropping me into the bottle over and over -- then it's not worth it. I sweat my ass off and he plans on sticking us in the freezer to load our own stuff. He changed the entire department layout in a way that is not only arbitrary but counterproductive. I'm imagining my labor at least doubling and my body physically can't handle that. I'm 40. I have a metal plane in an arm that I can't lift above my head, two healed but broken vertebrae, knees that I can't kneel on, a bone spur in my heel that looks like a shark fin. I can't transfer to picking because that would be endless walking and lifting. If I stay staging his system has fucked up everything, plus the freezer and cooler loading, and if I pick I have to reorder everything that was (to my mind) improperly staged anyway. I was staging and picking and everything worked smoothly as physical as it was. This... this ain't gonna work. I work with an organization called LifeLinks that helps me with finding things anyway. The main problem besides money is gonna be that all these young kids I work with, we've actually become friends and I'm gonna miss the shit out of them. 2 2
