Typing about the 2013 Kansas City Royals season in my project. I'm now at 62000+ words and 115 single-spaced pages. I don't know if i'm being too particular when I realize how many times I keep starting paragraphs with the word "The" or if that's something I'll have to avoid over-using.

If any outside guidance is involved, i'll insist that the text retain the "Jeff Francoeur after the Royals" summary where I mention the time that Francoeur was pranked into believing his minor league teammate was deaf. That sentence might be a "are you actually reading this" sentence to anybody editing this text.

The 2013 Royals season was a magical year where the team had a game postponed due to the manhunt for the Boston Marathon bomber, and also had a game end at 3am because of the umps knew that ending the game early would have caused the Royals to lose a game due to the rules of the time about when a rainout happens during an inning where the lead changes. Also George Brett showed up for 2 months as the hitting coach, the team had success, and he decided he wanted to be George Brett instead.

Or to put the 2010s Royals in the terminology of Robert Caro LBJ books

  • The Path to Power - all the stuff through 2012 when prospects showed up but the team still sucked
  • Means of Ascent - the 2013 season where the team finished 86-76 with a late surge (they were 64-64 at one point)
  • Master of the Senate - The two years that the Royals went to the World Series and were getting half their roster into the All-Star Game
  • The Passage of Power - Following up the World Series by going 81-81 and 80-82
  • The 5th LBJ book that Caro is taking ten years to write - Me figuring out how to not make all the post-2015 stuff read like the scenes in the Irishman after Hoffa died

It's not a perfect comp for reasons.

But if they're gonna insist on having the World Series start on Friday after four off days in a row, I might just keep typing stuff until Freddy Krueger faces Jason Voorhies in the World Series.

Rare I get ear ache but had it for over two weeks, dizzy spells. Got an emergency doctor's appointment today with the on duty Dr. Got lucky getting Dr Eldridge. I've got a bad ear infection in both ears. When I get an infection it buggers the CP up too. Dr Eldridge looked at my record and it's my first since 2018.

Damn buddy. I hope things clear up. I get ear infections pretty regularly and it's miserable.

Feel better soon, Paul.  Ear infections are awful, my wife deals with them somewhat regularly.

Thank you all.

driving around today... my vehicle was being repaired in the last week and it appears that fixing the connector so that it wasn't corroded might turn out to be a good thing for the sake of a 2008 Prius. Like the thing has some more umph than it had before

also I don't know if there's a computer folder thread for this but I think I also fixed the "it takes a long god damned time to get from the log-in screen to the desktop" because I found and deleted a folder in the temp folder of the users folder that was 800mbs with a shitton of tiny files, it took near forever to delete it, so I'm thinking it was slowing down the login.. today I log in, and instead of taking 300 seconds (5 minutes) to reach the desktop, it took 80 seconds. So that's a significant drop. Perhaps the problem isn't purely the size of a user folder, but how long it was taking to deal with a specific folder while logging on. This is more of a problem on the desktop since it wouldn't delete files in that folder automatically like it does on other devices

At least i'm working under the premise that if it's in a temp folder, it can be deleted. Now I just have to deal with the other "this computer is old" problems like "is this fan clogged with dust" and "hey the display driver doesn't like being awakened from sleep and it's gonna act weird for a few moments". Also Windows doesn't want to give Windows 11 to old devices so i'm waiting for the European Union or someone to scare Microsoft into not abandoning a bunch of W10 devices next year.

My gaming PC kept saying I wasn't windows 11 compatible for the upgrade but all it was preventing it was some dumb BIOS setting.

11 feels exactly like 10 honestly, at least once you move the windows menu back to the corner where it belongs. Whoever put that icon in the middle of the bar initially should go straight to jail, that's psychotic behaviour.

I'm on 11 on this laptop and it doesn't feel much different from 10. Really the one difference is that the monthly updates don't take forever but that might just be about the laptop and not W11

I occasionally find productive reasons to have a desktop and laptop next to each other, like if I'm looking at something on the desktop and typing it into a form on the laptop. The Desktop doesn't actually have speakers attached but the screen is wider and I can open a tab in one device that's on another because of how Chrome works

My cat passed away, i had her since 2011?  She was probably in the adoption home for cats years before that. I was there at least to comfort her in the end even if i didn't know it was the end....

@dragonzombie

I've had to put two cats to sleep since 2016. It's probably the most gutwrenching thing I've ever had to do. To me, it's the same as losing family members. You and your cat will be in my thoughts.

That's rough. I'm a cat guy. Have had to put down three in the quarter century we've been married. Never gets easy. I'm sorry.

I trust y'all with this so here goes.

For those that remember me discussing my mother in law passing due to neglect her son and wife have spent the past 4 years getting a court case set to take these fuckers down.

We just got a letter in the mail saying the preliminary trial starts in June. I texted my wife who is asleep about it but I know she's gonna sob even at 2am before work. But we've waited too long for this. Now it's just a matter of taking these fuckers down.

So right now it's a bit of relief but the memories from 4 years ago are flooding in and I'm a mess. But about fucking time.

Never had cats but we've had three dogs put to sleep since 2015. Pets are family. Honestly I'm closer to the dogs I've had or have now to the majority of my human family.

When I was actually drinking GOOD beer, my go-to was a Bock or a brown ale. Amber Bock and Newcastle Brown! Sam Smith, when I could afford it.

*sigh* Last night/this morning was another withdrawal. You don't want the details. Now that I'm working with LifeLinks to find a new job (again) I'm gonna try and make this take.

As a horror nut, Halloween has always been my favorite time of year. But, I think adulthood is finally catching up to me as far as that goes. Yesterday was just another Thursday. I even commented to my work buddy that it didn't even feel like Halloween and his reply was "Oh yeah, today is Halloween." I did manage to have a little bit of fun with the family that night. I took my two daughters and my toddler neice out trick or treating, and then the family watched Sleepy Hollow.  Of course, I did make the trek to Wal Mart for a whole bunch of cleareance candy, and then the wife and kids went after school too.

I definitely understand that. For the first half of the day with work going on it  had that "just another Thursday" vibe. But mixing in some songs and watching Undertaker videos helped keep me excited for when I clocked out.

I used to want to seek out Halloween parties and still would on the weekend before at some bars nearby. But it's weird how much we look forward now to giving out candy. I'm the one weirdo in my immediate area who will have some gimmick to go with the costume.

This year might have been the best one yet as I was Frankenstein's monster and knew how to make this work to maximum effect. I scared many a kid and my wife and friend were fucking aces in helping me. I try and do something different every year but this is the first one where I might want to do more with this for next year. Damn that was fun.

That was another thing my friend and I talked about actually. For the last few years, I always had a standing invite to go a Halloween party at his best friend's place. I was never able to go because it was on a Saturday night and I had to work at the ass crack of dawn on Sunday morning. But, in addition to him not even knowing that it was Halloween he realized that nobody had any sort of Halloween party this year.

The aforementioned bars we tried last Saturday that had parties were surprisingly dead and they were very packed before. Even the kid turnout last night was a lot less than last year which was odd. I know there's a multitude of reasons why it could be but it was a bit concerning.
