listening to a Cornette video where he talked about the movie "Sorry, Wrong Number" and how he wishes phone operators still existed

and I realized the Siri/Alexa/helpers are basically the modern equivalent to operators on the phone

Hello everyone. Got a phone call today confirming I'm on the fast track system and had the pre-assessment today. Prep before the procedure will really suck as will the colonoscopy.

I've had two colonoscopies and the prep is the worst part. Make sure you've got some reading materials, air freshener and some really soft TP. Best of luck.

Thank you. I can relate to all this.

Is there a saying bad things come in threes? The following keep to here only.

Been having stomach pains for sometime. Dr Jundi asked me to do a stool sample in September and got the results back in October, I'm good. Dr Jundi asked me to do this more in-depth test which looks for hidden blood just to be completely sure. Got my results back this week and I've tested positive. Dr Jundi was shocked I had and I was off the scale. Had to have emergency blood tests same day and she's sent an urgent referral to the hospital in the next two weeks for a colonoscopy. I'm dreading from past experience. Trying to not let my mind race to the worst possible outcome and be positive but I have a bad feeling about this. Hope to fuck I'm wrong. Couldn't happen at a worse time as December is a trigger month with Mum's Birthday and Christmas. Christmas has always been my favourite time of year even though it's not what it was since Mum's passing. I don't want to be in hospital during this period.

Power of positivity please and thank you. As noted please keep to here as those I want to know do.

Hello everyone.

The worst thing about it is the prep. Two drinks that flush you out with repeat trips to the toilet, feeling dehydrated and no food for over 24 hours. Unfortunately things were found in my colonoscopy. My understanding was if something was found, it would be dealt with then so I wouldn't have to go through the fucking thing again. I have to go through the fucking thing again. The consultant who did the colonoscopy will do the surgery and he said it will either be before Christmas or the New Year. I'm in limbo waiting for the date as I'm planning on going out with my Dad, Alyson and Conrad over Christmas so I'm hoping it's the New Year. I don't want to ruin Christmas. This will be my third ever colonoscopy and those who've had them can attest to how fucking miserable the prep is. Please keep to here. Cheers.

Sorry to hear this, but very much hope they can get everything fixed.

Among the worst parts of the prep for me personally, and I don't know if you would have had the exact same stuff I did, but the taste of the stuff you have to drink was really difficult for me to get down. It tasted like eating a lemon-scented wet-nap.

I probably shouldn't focus too much on how bad I found it, considering that you have to go through it again. Obviously if it ends up saving your life, it's completely worth it.

Yeah, getting it down you sucks. The second drink wasn't bad compared to the first, that was terrible. Thought about giving up a quarter way through. Indeed it's worth going through to get sorted but I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Just hope it's in the New Year.

The taste is bad, the quantity is rough, too.

This too.

There are now at least three different prep methods - the aforementioned “drink two tanker-trucks-ful of saccharine-sweetened beverage”; “an entire bottle of Miralax dissolved in 2 quarts of beverage of your choice”; and “here are 24 pills; beginning 12 hours before your procedure, take one pill every five minutes with a sip of water for 60 minutes, then drink a quart of water slowly over an hour, then wait 4 hours and repeat all previous steps”.

the radio station which I listen to on an ancient boombox has been in flux lately since the station i've listened to since my favorite station changed formats is now playing Christmas music so I can't do that for a month

I'd just listen to a a classic rock station here but something with the location of the radio (in a basement) made it hard for that station to come in despite being 100kw

But I was confused about getting a community station today until I realized that well, their tower is close to here, even if there's apparently damage to the tower

I'm just not listening to a month of Christmas radio or sports talk radio

edit: I did the only rational thing and found a metal paperclip-ish piece of metal to put on the end of the antenna to see if that'll help any

Had my every-5-years flat tire/nail in the tire event today.  Today's new twist: the motherfuckers replaced the wrong goddamned tire, which I was too exasperated to notice as I left because I'd already waited twice as long as I should have for it.

PSA to everyone: beware any place that tells you the nail stuck in a part of the tire that’s structurally bad to repair, and urges you to buy a new one from them.  The Pep Boys by me pulled that shit on me.  The first time, I just didn’t know better.  The second time, I realized they were full of shit (because what are the odds of that happening twice in a row?). I told them to fuck off and went to my actual mechanic (he’s further away, which is why I went to morherfucking Pep Boys in the first place) and he fixed it for free.

I'd say the odds are reasonable.  My last one was fairly close to the edge of the tread/near the shoulder, and so is this one.  Anything firmly within the treads?  Yeah, plug it yourself, the kits are cheap and work well.

I’m writing about the 2014 World Series as part of my project about the 2010s Royals (which is now over 140,000 words and 251 pages in a Word Document). So this is a reminder that most of the general population would look worse batting than Kelvin Herrera did

I feel like a potential finished project would melt any editor since I’m sure that this will be a bit longer since I’m going through 2017.

Turns out the car situation was slightly dumber than anticipated.

I actually had nails in *both* rear tires, which is at least what prompted them to replace the wrong one.  BUT, of course, I did not TELL anyone to replace the left one, nor did they inform me that both tires had nails or loop me in on any decision-making whatsoever.  If they had, I would have told them the other tire had no pressure issues and to leave it alone.

And of course when I said something about plugging it myself, I got the "that's very dangerous" blah blah blah from them, then came home, and the first YT video I pulled up had the video creator showing a tire with a nail about where this one still is, so yeah, I think it actually can be plugged, thanks for nothing, guys.  Though I'm not planning on doing anything with it now, because it isn't losing pressure anyway.

The enshittening of local services continues.

Hi friends! Hope all is well. I've been away for a while. Nothing bad, just working on some projects and doing other things. I've also been hanging out on Discord and BlueSky a lot (Twitter not so much anymore). Just thought I'd pop in and say hi. Hope to get back to posting some more over the holidays and next year!

I had a little bit of tire fun myself yesterday. I'm driving home from work Tuesday and my tire pressure indicator light comes on. That's not exactly a shocker since it was barely 40 degrees in Carlsbad that day. And it's always the same tire that seems to dislike the cold weather. Yesterday morning I notice that the car seems to be struggling a bit on the road, but there's an air pump at work so I can just put some air in it when I get there. Nope! Someone has decided to park their flatbed pickup perpendicular to the pump, so that I can't even pull up close to it.

I go to leave at the end of the day and my car is now looking lopsided because that tire is so low. Fortunately, I'm able to just pull right up and air it. Then I spend the whole drive home and most of the night being paranoid that the tire is seriously fucked and will I even be able to get to work the next day? Short answer: Yes, I checked it first thing this morning and it's looking fine. But, I've been meaning to replace my front tires for a bit now, so this is just the kick in the ass to actually do it.

For every 10 degree temperature drop, you lose one 1-2psi in your tires. In the winter, I typically put a little more air in the tires (just 1-2psi extra) than I would if it's summer or spring. I bought a nice all-in-one Slime brand tire inflator and gauge at O'Reilly Auto Parts last year for like $35 and keep it in my trunk. It just runs off the cigarette lighter/power plug in the car. Would definitely recommend it.

Late last night: NOT GUILTY on a sexual assault charge.  Guy walked around Walmart and grocery stores slapping butts.  One lady claimed that his fingers penetrated her genitals through the clothes.  State was seeking 50 years.  Jury only convicted him of the misdemeanor.  BOOM.

Well, you know what I think about THAT one. And no, it's at least 3/4s Gatorade Zero. (I don't mean to make light of this but... come on, you just gotta laugh sometimes.)

I'm sorry to hear about this Paul. Best of luck to you bud.

If anyone's interested in my situation, I got both a new therapist and a new psychiatrist, who I just met today. She prescribed me Buspirone. Does anyone take or know what that is? I've read online and my mom said it's basically Zoloft. I get along great with both of them and things should work out well, at least with our relationships as patient/client, since I still ain't sober.

You should probably read this (yeah I know I'm breaking the rules and this needs to go to the Discord) https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/dec/13/jay-z-rape-allegation-impunity-hip-hop

As I spoke with my psychiatrist about today, nothing ever changes.

One of my work friends was on a jury for something like that. It was a domestic violence issue where both people involved had already been charged with a couple of other things that were the result of it. This particular case was that the man poked her in the forehead and that's what caused things to turn physical. So the state was charging him with battery and looking for ten years, all because he poked her. And the DA made it clear that was the only issue that they were deciding. It was a very quick deliberation and acquital.
