I was a King Cobra, Steel Reserve and Wild Irish Rose guy in college. Eventually my hometown carryout got the plastic bottle Steel Reserves and at the worst I was buying a case at a time.

Working at the bar a few years back we tapped a keg of Founders' Dick Kicker Malt Liquor. It wasn't popular and I think I drank more of it than any customer. The name was very fitting.

I didn't know they did this. The ones we get distributed to MD from Founders are very nice and drinkable. Hopefully they had a cheap price for Dick Kicker as it sounds gnarly.

Yeah, it was a rare miss from Founders. We got a keg and limited six packs of their KBS in 2017. People were lining up to buy a ticket for a raffle for the ability to buy a sixer. It was really insane.

That's funny. Coincidentally, I tend to say I like the taste of a strong Gin and Tonic because it's tastes like getting kicked in the dick!

...Sorry, I said that wrong. I meant PUNCHED in the dick.

punched, not kicked.

That's something else we used to drink: Gin. Ugh. I can smell it now, all these years later. A pair of us went through an Old Crow/Old Granddad phase too. Then when I kicked it with a lady friend of mine, only vanilla vodka. And prior to quitting my job when I was in that house, a box wine phase!

I've only drank gin a few times. The first time was around Xmas '94. Bought a 750 of Seagram's and mixed it with Mountain Dew. Ate some home made pizza and got sicker than a MF'R. Didn't try gin again until '05.
Went to a cousin's wedding reception in early '90 and it was a "Mix Your Own" bar. So I started making myself some strong ass screwdrivers. That went well for a little bit until I ate some of my aunt's cooking. A little bit later I got wobbly legged and left a trail of puke out the door. The groom and his best man(both cousins) told me I needed to get my shit under control because they didn't need the cops showing up. We went back inside and I hurled again. It was time to leave. I ralphed all over the side of my dad's '86 Cavalier. Oh to be 19 again...NOT!

I don't really drink liquor any more but I still like good gin on occasion.  When I was in my 20s the bar at the fancy hotel in downtown Lawrence had good drink specials every Thursday so we'd drink Tanqueray 10 martinis til we had to stumble home.

Cheap gin is an abomination, though.

I'm glad I've pretty much stopped drinking. The last time I had a few beers was at a family gathering in August. I'm going to a concert in two weeks, so I'll probably have a few drinks. As for my main vice, I haven't touched that in four months.

God damn, I wish craft brewers would experiment with malt liquors.  I need a Lagunitas or Sierra Nevada malt!  🤣

today is day 50. I'm taking this one milestone at a time. Looking forward to 2 months/60 days. But i feel super good about 50 days and wanted to share it with somebody. Much love.

100 days sober today. It was a weekend that really put me in the thick of things. Kept it in my mind but out of my stomach.
Saturday= friends' wedding ceremony (CHEERS!). aunt's birthday party (at a bar). same friends' wedding reception (with an open bar!!!! and walking distance from my house!)
Sunday= met some friends at a barcade (they make a damn good mixer there). wife had other friends over to the house (drinks all around!).

luckily, friends and family have been supportive.

I really like IPAs (I do have my limits, though...if that shit just tastes like grapefruit juice, I'm out) but I can't stand wheat beers.  That malty, bubble gum flavor just grosses me out.  I know a guy who is the exact opposite.  I feel like you like one, but never the other.  I've never met anyone who likes IPAs and wheats.

Hi, I'm that guy! Nice to meet you!

I like pretty much all styles as long as it's done well enough.

Did you used to be NickWWF?  I remember trying to explain to you where in Cockeysville to get Lion Stout!  😁

I think that was my original username until I changed it to NickMD.  Then Tromatagon thought I was a real doctor (still makes me laugh) hence this name.  But yep that'd be me.

And yeah you did indeed try and dumbass me didn't listen.  But it looks like it's a Total Wine and More which is a little bit closer than Cockeysville for me.  So hey, maybe one day I'll finally try it!  Speaking of I miss the beer thread but it's so far back on the board and wasn't as active as I figured that bumping it up would feel wrong.

I'm doing what I'm calling a 'project' of writing about the 2010s Kansas City Royals. At the moment i've typed 71 single-spaced pages and 38000 words into a Word document and I still haven't reached the point where the team becomes good (I'm almost there). But there's a certain amount of character-building that had to happen before the team actually started winning games consistently.

Some of the self-editing i've done is really telling me that I've started a few sentences with the words "But" or "Then".. and at one point I noticed I kept starting paragraphs with the word "The". So that's fun to realize.

I'm sure there's services that exist for telling people what parts of their manuscripts would get annihilated by an actual editor. But with my team in the offseason after last Thursday, I have time in afternoons and evenings to do this. I guess it's harder to have writers block if you're writing about things that happened.

10 year anniversary of the Royals World Series is next year i'm sure someone is gonna write something about it somewhere. I make absolutely no promises that I won't end up writing some absurd amount of words to finish this.

I haven't drank in quite a while. I'm typically a beer guy with the occasional bourbon or whiskey mixed drink. My wife and I once had a somewhat humorous exchange over our change in drinking habbits.

Me: I've had this six pack for almost a month, I don't even really drink too much anymore.

Her: Well, maybe it's just a part of your life that's passed you by. Now, where's my wine?

can't stand IPA's, wheat beers are alright but I prefer Stouts and Porters. Unfortunately I'm lucky if there's one on the beer menu as the whole world has gone IPA and seltzer

Rare I get ear ache but had it for over two weeks, dizzy spells. Got an emergency doctor's appointment today with the on duty Dr. Got lucky getting Dr Eldridge. I've got a bad ear infection in both ears. When I get an infection it buggers the CP up too. Dr Eldridge looked at my record and it's my first since 2018.
