In 30+ years of jury duty, I've only made it into the courtroom once. Most of the time I was dismissed midday.

So I filled it out, and I had no excuse, unless I wanted to lie about taking care of my folks (it is far more in the opposite direction). BUT, they gave a series of months -- not all of them -- as an option, so I picked April. 🤷‍♂️ Who knows.

Car update!

The Dolfan-mobile is on hold at the dealership right now.  The main hangup at this point was their financing was somewhere in the 8.2% range.   I got a promotional offer from Bank of America that got me down to 6.2%(!) on a used car.  (And they were offering 5.9% on a new car!)

Have to cross some I's and dot some T's, but I should be on the road very soon.   Thanks for all y'all's advice.

GM update: the new one lasted a week and got fired for theft. We now have someone who was an assistant when the first one got fired. First thing she did was cut my hours. That lasted about an hour until the district manager saw it. The big boss from HQ is coming tomorrow so I'm staying overnight to make sure everything is perfect.

I've worked at a few restaurants in the past ten years and this is by far the most messed up. Before COVID, my location was the highest ranked in the region but somehow it went to hell. The GM that hired me was upfront about it and they did right by me when I had an issue with my probation so I'm dedicated to making it better. We just have a lot of work to do and haven't found the right staff to do it.

My wife and I work (mostly from home) for the same giant tech company.  It’s been an interesting week.

- Monday I meet her on the kitchen after our first round of morning meetings.  She says “never had that happen before”.  She was in a 1:1.  Dude had his camera turned on and porn on his personal pc screen visible behind him.
- Tuesday I meet her the same way.  She’s been in a meeting with a bunch of ex military Israelis.  They tell her something big is happening Tuesday night.  Guess they were right

- Wednesday she comes out saying all the VPs are freaking out.  Something bad coming tomorrow.  They were right too.
- today I’m spending all my free time transferring 20+ years of personal stuff to my home pc, with the expectation that we’re both gonna retire this month.

It's my wife's first staff day at her new school. She's excited because she's worked so hard to get her degree and teaching license, and the old school she worked at is going down in flames. But, at the same time she's nervous.

So no treadmill posts for a while as people may or may not have noticed, but sticking it here instead of the fitness thread.

Long story short, I've been fighting an annoying case of bronchitis since May or so. Have been on antibiotics a couple of times and maybe that cleared up a bacterial flare up, but it seems viral at this point, just lingering. It's not overly debilitating but there's always something in my chest I have to cough out throughout the day and I shouldn't exercise. There's a possibility that this was exacerbated by some black mold we found due to a leaking toilet and we've dealt with that. Like I said, basically just annoying, especially not being able to exercise, but I am concerned that it's shifting to something more chronic. Last X-Ray was clean so that's good, but I will follow up with the doctor again in a couple of days. Not sure what the next move is. Maybe explore the mold possibility a bit more maybe see a respiratory specialist.

Listening to the execs explain their plans and thinking right now.  First thing that came to my mind:

Okay, so this was five days ago but I just now have a chance to recap the day we had.  My poor, tired parents.

My brother-in-law and I were asked to pick up my parents who were coming back from Greece via a stop in Dublin then to Newark, NJ.  But there were a few twists and turn that affected when they would even land which started with an an hour and a half delay in Athens.  So by the time they went to Dublin the weather got bad en route and they had to land at Frankfurt, Germany then go to Dublin when possible.  So we met up at 1 instead of 10 and headed up.  All is well and we're rolling into a convenience store halfway through when my sis calls to say they had to land in Boston once again due to weather.  And because the east coast storms would be bad for some time they wouldn't know if they were leaving for Newark that day or taking a trip to Baltimore the next day.  Which put us in limbo as if we drove home and had to get them it was more time and gas.  But what are we gonna do in Jersey in the meantime?  Well first we went to a Walmart which was fine enough for a bit.  But then he saw that Philly was a half hour away so why not go there and kill time.  Which with respect to Jersey if I had to kill time somewhere I'd rather do it in Philly so off we went.

I set the GPS to a place called Angelo's that on Google said it was open.  We somehow lucked into a spot and headed up to the door only to see the owners went on vacation until 8/7.  We were not the only ones disappointed/fooled but undeterred we saw that South Street was less than a mile from us.  So we walked over to Jim's Steaks which thankfully had a fucking incredible cheesesteak.  I'm not a local but the meat, cheese, and especially the bread were on point so we felt really good about what we got.  After stopping somewhere for a beer it was determined that they'll likely do Baltimore the next day and we can go home.  Sure, no problem.  We're walking back when we notice Suplex Vintage Wrestling and as mentioned in the Summerslam thread it's a pretty damn incredible yet tiny store.  So after seeing the end of Rhea/Live I told the owner I'd love to stay but we have to get home.  Or so I thought.

Once we're one block away from the place my sis calls to say that they're likely doing Newark that night after all but won't know for absolute sure until 11.  She asked if we would be able to hang there and thankfully Summerslam was the perfect way for us to kill time.  So to their surprise we were back and had a pretty good time.  And sure enough at 11 we get the call saying they're doing Newark after all.  The plane was gonna land at 2am and in theory it shouldn't take long to get them in the car and get home all goes well by maybe 5.  Except the airlines are stupid this time of year and after not saying where the bags would come out in baggage claim it turned out my parents were missing a bag.  They're trying to find answers and damn near everybody that was on the plane was pissed off.  They finally get through the line for issues and got the claim number so the bag can be shipped home.  But by the time we left it was 4am.  I'm dead-ass tired so my brother-in-law drove the first half and I got the second.  By the time I dropped them off, then him off, then got myself home it was 7am.  And due to my mind racing that night I got six hours sleep in the span of two days.

I don't know why I'm posting this in all honestly as everybody's fine and things somehow worked out.  I guess I just felt a need to recap how airlines and mother nature are stupid fucks that like fucking things up in the summertime.  So if anybody questions why our vacation is a simple drive to Rehoboth Beach or Alexandria, VA in the fall I will have this to point to as exhibits A-Z.

the radio station that I kept on the dial in the room is changing formats (from alternative to sports talk) so i'm now currently auditioning for replacements... my top contender for the honor is a alternate-ish "music discovery" station that I need to get the dial within a specific part of the dial to get it in, so i'm listening to a greatest hits station with a better reception for now

one annoying part of the station i'm trying now is they do stuff like "we have 50 minute music blocks" directly before going to a 5 minute commercial block

Make you don't just sit there if your therapist keels over and dies.

I'm basically waiting for the job next year.  It was delayed to next year.

Anyway, I hate the hard floors houses can have. I dropped many things by accident sometimes and they sometimes break or inside. Gives me Existential crises.

As a cat owner and allergy haver I am strongly in favor of hard floors but I will always have carpet in my bedroom because I live in Wisconsin and screw stepping out of bed onto a cold floor.

In the second apartment I ever rented I almost froze to death. It had hardwood floors and clearly was weirdly carved out of a two story house and floor painted some kind of pink? Beige? Thankfully I had borrowed my folks' space heater and even though using it in there was possibly dangerous it felt like it saved my life. The heat was just as bad.
