  1. I hope all of you are having a great day here. If you’re not, if you’re maybe thinking some not so nice things about yourself, please remember one thing: At the end of the day, at least you’re not the guy who made, transported, and held aloft for the majority of a three hour taping signs supporting Zach Snyder and talking shit on James Gunn. Unless one of you are that guy, then fuck off. (Please note that I do not have strong feelings one way nor the other on Snyder or Gunn, but Jesus was that guy annoying!)

  4. He did. There was a backstage promo, I believe on 11/2/22 Dynamite prior to Fenix vs Orange vs Luchasaurus, where Pac told Fenix to use the hammer if he really wanted revenge (this coming after Orange won the All Atlantic from PAC). Then in the match, Pac brought the hammer but Fenix refused it and got pinned. That's why next time around at Full Gear, Fenix did use the hammer to defeat the Elite.

  5. I'm pretty excited for Rohit Raju and the Infantry jumping from Dark to ROH, smaller ponder higher ranks. Not one but two Willow Nightingale matches? Woodsy vs Takeshita? 205 Live Reunion? If you aren't excited for this then frankly you need to take a lap.

  6. Well, I can't speak for you guys, but those are two episodes of TV that I would like to watch. Just mixing and matching that talent bodes well for the rest of the year, huh?

  8. I love the brand of RoH. I’ll be honest, I dipped out during the TV era and when I came back it was people I didn’t know and I was too derped to check out a Matt Taven title run. But the sports/ big fight feel was such a breath of fresh air when I first discovered it. Danielson, Samoa Joe, Strong, the Briscoes, Low Ki, McGuiness, the NOAH guys, etc. It really maintained my love of the business and helped introduce me to an even deeper world I didn’t know how to approach. I would likely have fallen out of love with wrestling had it not been for stumbling over Low Ki vs KENTA and Samoa Joe vs Kenta Kobashi. I loved the idea of an excited smaller crowd like I’d see in the ECW footage, but instead of trying to redo ECW by being extreme/hardcore/edgy, or going the TNA route of highlighting an exciting X-Division, or doing what WWE was doing (I was an angsty teen so maybe I’d appreciate Cena and HHH more if the same thing was on tv now?) they went the way of shaking hands and having technical matches with chops and kicks. It was an alternative I needed at that time. Which I hope to ramble on the idea of wrestling mimicking or being influenced by pop and modern culture in the future. Now it is back. I hope they use a lot of Timothy Thatcher. Give me Yuta being mad with kicks. Prick Garcia being a douche. It will likely never be the same as the ROH I had loved, but a honorable representation that highlights great matches is something I’d love to get the Honor Club for. Im gonna wait until after the first ep airs. Hopefully it gets combined with AEW footage and not likely but hopefully Tony goes crazy and purchases to add CHIKARA, All Japan, lost Bockwinkel footage, the NWA, and also gives me a lifetime supply of free Taco Bell.

  9. Damn. Going by those results, the ROH roster is going to be fun as hell.

  10. My favorite Boyd Pierce non-reaction is when DiBiase turns heel on JYD. The crowd is in shock, JYD lies unconscious in the ring, and the segment ends with Boyd emotionlessly saying, “so Ted DiBiase is the new North American heavyweight champion; that means we’ll have more action, there’ll be standby matches after this commercial message.”

  14. Football and baseball both refusing to have some type of obvious 'signal' to referees when a clock expires is certainly something, have they never watched basketball. Imagine if in the NBA there was no sound and no light on the backboard for the shot clock, and referees were just expected to keep track of the clock. Its an equally bad idea to what the NFL and now MLB do.

  15. All this build for Andretti is perfect for him to take the fall and then become an RoH regular where he can work on his promos and be more of an upper card guy.

  16. I find it weird booking too since they're already presumably building to an eventual Garcia face turn one day...kind of feels like it would just be two young guys teaming with Jericho so they can eventually turn on him and go babyface. The whole involvement of Action just muddies Starks' ascension anyway, I wish they hadn't prolonged both feuds simultaneously, especially since Starks *****really***** should be getting two straight clean wins over Y2J and refocusing on MJF.

  17. As fitting with this team - the sale is just as fucked up as everything else Half the reports are saying that Dan Snyder is refusing to sell to Jeff Bezos because Bezos owns the Washington Post and the Post said mean things about Snyder. These same reports say that Snyder refuses to sell the team for less than $7 billion (which means he isn't selling because Bezos is the only one who can meet that price). Meanwhile - it has come out today that Tilman Fertitta - billionaire owner of the Houston Rockets - is making a bid for the team. So the known folks bidding are Fertitta, Bezos and Josh Harris (owner of the Sixers and Devils) The whole not selling to Bezos thing is totally something Snyder would do but the NFL really really wants Bezos to be an owner so I wouldn't be surprised if Mary Jo White's investigation magically finishes up and isn't kind to Snyder

  18. Me 2 mins ago: Yeah I'm not really interested in watching NuRoH... Me now: So how do I watch RoH? That first match could be particularly hate-filled~! Hope they get time to build a proper storyline.

  22. Thank you. My partner kept asking which one of the Ass Boys was James Gunn and why the guy with the sign hated one but not the other. I figured it was a reference to something stupid but now I know it was even stupider than I thought.

  26. I'm going to put myself out here a bit to say that there is some fun to be had on the NJPW/CMLL Fantasticamania shows. I'll try to avoid getting too much in to "navel-gazing" territory, but I've got to admit that one of my more significant shames as a longtime wrestling fan is that I've had difficulty getting in to the rules and structure of lucha libre matches - even sometimes the overall style itself despite the fact that I recognize the immense talent and athleticism of many luchadors throughout wrestling history. The Fantasticamania tour gives me a window in to something I'm unfamiliar with and broaden my horizons a bit, as a result. The differences are apparent on these shows, as the contrasting styles make themselves known and it's clear that you're getting wrestlers who don't work with each other very often. However, it gives a chance for some wrestlers who don't always get a lot of love to show that they're pretty much unflappable in there - I'm thinking of people like Kanemaru. The shows themselves are about two hours, and are pretty light-hearted. I don't think anybody is concerned with putting on epics, and the NJPW guys get a chance to let their hair down a bit and do something different. Like BOSJ shows, there typically aren't ringside barriers between the crowd and the ring. The crowds themselves are really coming alive for these shows, which has been a pleasure to see after so much silence for the past three years. And, the fans have been able to interact with some of the wrestlers in ways they usually can't. All of this combined with the fact that some of the shows have taken place in venues that NJPW doesn't always run really makes it feel pretty fresh and unique.

  28. ROH TV looks fun. As expected. The Universal Studios layout was a bit of question mark, but it looks like they've the made the necessary changes. Specifically the crowd by the entrance and what looks like more seats around the perimeter. Now hoping for proper split rosters with fair crossover. Maybe we're there already? Also, how long must these episodes be? Not complaining, just assuming some marathons. Sign me up to the Honor Role Society Clubbering Lang.

  29. So, putting aside whether or not Brandon Miller should be playing, I think we can all agree him having a teammate pat him down like he's looking for a gun during the player introductions is a bad look.

  30. I would like to think Boyd Pierce just did crossword puzzles while Bill rambled on. There have been several times I am watching some random Mid-South episode, Bill goes on an unbroken near ten minute tangent, and then the camera switches back to the booth after the match with Boyd just sitting there. It throws me off because I totally forget he's there. Is he suppose to be taking notes? Is he catching up on his reading?

  31. Is ZSJ potentially a signee in the nearish future? Is Jay White still rumoured to be signing with AEW? Im hoping the answer to the first question is hell yes and to the second hell no but logic says probably the other way around. Also ROH cards look awesome. Takeshita/Woods!!

  33. Orange Cassidy has to be the worst possible example you can use to try to make the point of AEW guys not having a distinct gimmicks. Literally the worst example. He doesn't have a "catchphrase" per se, but the nonchalant body language, the hands in the pockets, the shades, the phantom kicks, etc. are all very distinct and are why he's over far more so than his serious ring work (which is still really good). He stands out on the AEW roster because he only goes full speed for 10% of a match and lets his character work pop the crowd for other 90%.

  38. I also feel like AEW does a great job of letting guys flesh out their characters in the ring and from what they’re doing week to week. Wheeler Yuta was mentioned. Over the last 18 months we’ve seen him go from Best Friends trainee to earning a spot with the toughest guys in the company because of his characters fearlessness and strength of character. I don’t need JR to tell me he’s “tougher than a two dollar steak.” Dude wrote out the name of the faction he was trying to join in his own blood on his chest.

  46. Work news: One of my appeals was granted Oral Arguments in the 7th Court of Appeals. A first for me! Extraordinarily rare. Even the appeals I've won weren't granted oral arguments, and ones I've lost that were published and had a pretty detailed dissent did not have oral arguments, so this is all pretty neat. It's "real lawyer shit" is what I've been told. Funny thing is my wife helps me so much with all the appeals (because she understands the law way better than me -- I'm a mouthpiece), she's the real lawyer.

  47. To be fair, I don't know anyone who read the Daily Student let alone reviews in it. EDIT: Oh my god, this just brought back a memory. I used to email Scott Keith to say that I wrote for the Daily Student and wanted to review his book and he'd send me a free copy. I did this for all of his books. I never wrote for the newspaper.
