  3. The following is brought to you as a public service announcement on behalf of Silver Shamrock Inc. and the Undead Coalition of Ghoulish Endeavors and Opportunities (UCGEO) You don't really know much about Halloween... you thought no further than the strange custom of having your children wear masks and go out begging for candy. It was the start of the year in our old Celtic lands, and we'd be waiting... in our houses of wattles and clay. The barriers would be down, you see, between the real and the unreal, and the dead might be looking in... to sit by our fires of turf. Halloween... the festival of Samhain! The last great one took place three thousand years ago, when the hills ran red... with the blood of animals and children. Sacrifices. It was part of our world... our craft. To us, it was a way of controlling our environment. It's not so different now... it's time again. In the end... we don't decide these things, you know... the planets do. They're in alignment, and it's time again. The world's going to change tonight, doctor, I'm glad you'll be able to watch it. And... happy Halloween. It's almost time, kids. The clock is ticking. Be in front of your TV sets for the Horrorthon, followed by the Big Giveaway. Don't miss it. And don't forget to wear your masks. The clock is ticking. It's almost time. We have less than a month to get our flabby overly corporeal asses into shape. I'd start by drinking ectoplasm and freebasing Stranger Things and then move on to harder stuff. Here is my tentative watchlist. Feel free to add yours: Goodnight Mommy It Follows Berberian Sound Studio We Are What We Are Kill List The Orphanage Trouble Every Day Cold Fish The Innkeepers I Saw the Devil The Skin I Live In The Final Girls When Animals Dream We Are Still Here What We Do In the Shadows Troll Hunter Hellraiser Creep Would You Rather Dead Silence Dawn/Day of the Dead CHUD All the Boys Love Mandy Lane Rosemary's Baby

  8. Back to the GLOW show, Chavo Guerrero is set to be the wrestling coordinator for the show. I don't know if it will translate to an acting role on the show or not. Coincidentally his uncle Mando was the trainer for GLOW back in the day.

Up until he mentioned the election I was expecting this to go a little differently: "Hi, my name is Kurt Angle, I'm an Olympic gold medalist, and my parole officer told me I have to collect signatures of everyone in the neighborhood of my halfway house before I can operate a motor vehicle. There are three or four pages of information about the various things I've done and I really need you to sign all of them. Also are you interested in buying a gold medal?"

  16. Guys, you need to adapt your fantasies to accept that life with Alicia Fox involves a lot of your face bleeding followed by "OH MY GOOD BOO I"M SO SORRY" It also involves a 50% of you getting in a fight every goddamn time you are in line for ice cream or movie tickets or anything. Let the dream die.

  17. I don't know, man. That looks more like Henry Rollins from the Liar video where he puts on some dorky ass glasses so you'll think what a really nice guy he is. Or some strange hybrid of Henry Rollins and Henry Kissinger.

  18. This is a pretty good episode, which features the debut of the Freebirds on WTBS as Michael lays it down on the introduction of all the members late-70's Southern Jive. Also, witness Gordy try to cripple young Tim Horner with a prototype-power bomb. Then you have Mr. Saito giving a fake apology to Steve Keirn for injuring him and then facing off against one of the "employees at the hospital" to take Saito on in his $5000 challenge. I've never seen Saito be that heavy in showing his amateur skills, but by gawd, is he a fucking beast on the mat! I'm gonna be looking up some of his early matches today. Harley Race is up next doing tv match against enhancement talent, and while it's a standard Race squash, it also reminds me that wrestling doesn't have to be fast-paced all the time. There was a simplicity and a brutality to everything he was doing and it was awesome. Freebirds show up again, and this time it's Hayes and Roberts. Hey look! Roberts gives a guy a Destiny Hammer!!! Who knew the 'Birds were so ahead of their time? Austin Idol closes this out defending the GA Heavyweight title, with Tony Atlas on commentary.

  20. I'd never heard of the match until all this discussion either, but that territory and time period is a bit out of my knowledge base. Is the Bret/Funk match they're advertising the one from Funk's retirement show in the late 90s featuring Mr. I Wasn't Booked? I didn't realize that match/show was a rarity. Looking over the full card I'm trying to figure out which match is the most random.

  23. Sorry, but none of us imagined that when Manning had his neck surgically removed in Indianapolis that they replaced him with a random Wal-Mart employee instead of making even the slightest effort to find a NFL level replacement, because Luck and RGIII were in that draft. If anything it was stunning they weren't called out for it more because it was so blatantly obvious what they were doing.

  24. Not that I mind discussing things hypothetically, in fact I enjoy it, but if Bradford leads the Vikings to the playoffs then it will look like they made a smart move (since then their #1 pick would be in the mid-20s which has less value). I have no idea how likely that is but if he stays healthy all year and plays well it will change the discussion. I think its fair game to discuss Bradford up to this point and he has major injury concerns but too early to determine if this was a smart move by Minnesota. It was definitely desperate but there is a chance it pays off.

  25. How about Usos cheating to beat AA, and then they're about to cheat in the finals against Heath Rhyno, so AA comes out and kills the Usos dead and throw Heath on top and then we get a blood feud between AA and the Usos and Heath and Rhyno can defend against Breezango or something.

  27. There's something special in this scene. Both Dom and Vin were saying goodbye, in their own ways. I remember being in that theater and most people were crying by the time the credits rolled. It's about loss, essentially. And how someone learns to cope with it. A stupid, silly car chase film gets to the point of the subject more than most arty, pretentious Oscar-winning films ever will. Amazing.

  28. Both of mine are from Angel: The entire "You're Welcome" episode of the 5th season (100th episode overall). What a gutpunch of an episode, jesus. Then, three episodes later, Fred is possessed by Illyria. The scene where Wesley is holding Fred's body and they're both just lost in that moment and totally in love, and then - just like that - she's gone and an ancient God is in her place... Heartbreaking and shocking at the same time. I can't remember, since I haven't seen the episode in SUCH a long time, but I'm pretty sure "I Will Remember You" from S1 is pretty fucking sad too. That's one thing Whedon knows how to do - make you really depressed.

  30. I'm five episodes in. I seem to be part of the consensus that think the show didn't live up to the spellbinding first episode, but it's still good and Turturro is in a league of his own.

  32. Except my argument isn't about the Shield though or why it's better. You laughed at Fuqua saying it's as realistic as possible. I said your take on that is a reach (and it is as I proved through several real life examples). The Shield is a fictional TV show. In reality, there are countless examples of people like Jake Hoyt for better and for worse in same way there are countless examples of people like Alonzo Harris (although probably not as cartoonish or devilish as Denzel's portrayal at certain points). You can find them throughout history. Moreover, there isn't one set interpretation of a good cop or bad cop or how they about the other side let alone one creed or motto. If there was, every depiction in film and TV would be damn near the same.

  33. For everyone complaining about Seth Rollins' indy moveset, I think the only thing that REALLY pisses me off is that he's doing the Davey Richards superplex-into-another-move sequence. A fucking SUPERPLEX being used as a transitional spot to another move makes me want to throw things.

  40. Re best ring announcers- Marc Lowrance never gets enough love. Great delivery, put some oomph in all the right places ("Albuquerque New Mexico, the world famous BRUUUUUISERRRRRR BRODY!") and also had a very droll sense of humor. (Introducing One Man Gang's opponent: "Standing outside the ring, where I wish I was...")
