AxB Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 There was a "Lemmy does a quiz about his career" in Kerrang magazine once, and he got the "How many songs did you record for Triple H?" question wrong. He thought it was three, not four. He said he'd blocked Line in the Sand out of his memory. 2
Ziggy Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Im listening to a Toshiaki Kowada podcast and I really am considering going back and watching a ton of All Japan 90s matches for the first time in almost 15 years or so. I Imagine it's probably alot more footage available then it was when I first discovered alot of it 20 years ago. I would probably have a greater appreciation for it now even with all the head drops. I don't watch much other than WWE PLEs lately so I'd probably be rating alot of those matches 7 stars like Dave. I remember about 10 years ago I got laid off from my job for about a month and I spent most that time watching classic 80s and 90s Joshi for the first time. I was watching Dreamwave and all that. I even got into the current joshi scene at the time watching Kairi Sane and Triple tails. Im about to get a 2 week break from work and I want to watch wrestling outside of the current wrestling. When AEW uploads their PPVs on HBOMax I will probably start watching the PPVs from the Start of the promotion. 2

When people ask me what I want to do when I retire, I just tell them to watch the Lemmy doc and you'll see my retirement dream. Edited November 17, 2024 by cwoy2j 7
Ramo2653 Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 This just popped into my head, with the incoming administration in the USA and their stance on immigration and foreign workers, are we going to have another spell of wrestlers not being able to come over or delays with visas again? 3
Cobra Commander Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Let me check this Jim Cornette/Stan Lane promo from this Scozzari moneymark show in Lowell and see what it's like "and if I get dateraped one more time, i'm gonna call my lawyer Dewey Cheatem and Howe and i'm gonna start suing some people" - oh Stanfield... let me check one more thing.. yep... the William Kennedy Smith trial was in the news this month. Somebody was reading the USA Today on the way up to the show. you know this was a pit of a show when the crowd popped for "I'm gonna get everybody plane tickets to Florida for the winter" 1

Unfortunately I can't help you with this one, but it reminds me of the similar "8 out of 10 dog prefer..." and someone was asking why they never tell us what they were offered besides that product? And the remaining 2 dogs still prefer THAT over whatever they are trying to sell? What if it's something like horse shit or pieces of glass that they would rather be eating than the product that's being offered? Edited November 19, 2024 by Shartnado too many words 1
Infinit Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 Today is the 8th year anniversary of Takeover Toronto and DIY and The Revival's 2 out of 3 falls masterpiece. 1 1

I was there live and it was the closest I've ever felt that wrestling was "real". I was going through some personal issues at the time having to move back in with my dad in my tiny hometown and start over completely as my job, relationship and apartment lease in Toronto all ended within a span of weeks but during that match, all I wanted was for Johnny Gargano to reach the ropes during that 3rd fall. In my opinion, the best tag team match to take place on North American soil. 4

The crazy thing about the AJPW matches the last time I watched them is how good the matches are before all the head dropping. I think the long term story telling that starts with Misawa pinning Jumbo unexpectedly until Kawada finally beating Misawa is the best example of in-ring story telling ever. You can watch all the matches without any other context and fully understand the story being told. I also am thinking about how to do a wrestling data management project where I create a public spreadsheet where people can download it, fill out participants, and their own individual rating. It will spit out a bunch of charts and stats that breakdown who is the most high rated matches, who is most consistent, who is an anchor, etc. Don't hold me to it, especially since google sheets are just different enough from excel that I might not be able to figure it out.

Surreal is a perfect way to describe this moment.

Friends and family that I noticed sharing that match on social media. That match and the RKO on Rollins at WrestleMania 31 was the 2 moments I noticed got the attention of Lapsed fans from previous eras until recently. That Goldberg vs Lesnar match was perfectlyfor both guys and probably the best match for Goldberg to retire. That WrestleMania match was good too but I think the Survivor Series was more special because no one expects a good match from Goldberg. More than anything it shows how good Lesnar is at working for his opponent. He's shown that a few time during that run especially working with guys you wouldn't expect to be so giving for.
Cobra Commander Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 watching the Warriors/Perfect Team match from SS90 on the Vault, and them just disqualifying 4 guys at once really reminds me that part of the reason why they deemphasized elimination matches at the Survivor Series might involve all the ways they had to get around guys taking pinfalls to get out of these matches 1
AxB Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Like that time 4 members of one team got counted out simultaneously? Pretty sure that ref didn't count to 40. Which technically he should have had to.
BobbyWhioux Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Piper's Pitifuls vs The Faux Horsemen at Survivor Series 91 is the worst offender because the schmozz breaks out and the ref disqualifies everyone left in the match except Flair for no real reason except the meta reasons of Flair's booked to win and the match has gone over time.

IIRC, Flair was on the outside of the ring while everyone else was fighting in the ring, so he wasn't involved in the schmozz. Yeah, it was still a shitty way to get to Flair as the sole survivor. Survivor Series '91 being used simply to promote Tuesday in Texas sucked in general. Edited November 21, 2024 by Nice Guy Eddie 2
Elsalvajeloco Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Hey, it would pave the way several years later for post brand split PPVs to essentially promote Raw and Smackdown instead of the logical inverse. Dwindling buyrates for EVERYONE! 1
tbarrie Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 If we're complaining about Survivor Series, can I mention how much I was annoyed during the year or two when after a match, the survivors were referred to as "sole survivors" no matter how many of them there were? I don't remember exactly when that was, but it was pretty stupid. 3

Yeah, it was still a shitty way to get to Flair as the sole survivor. This is eerily similar to the rumor that one of the proposed endings to the 92 Rumble was that the ring was supposed to be cleared of all competitors and Flair was supposed to come out at number 30 and be handed the title.
