Quick question, this has been bugging me for the past few days:

Around what point did Shawn Michaels' eyes start getting all fucked up?

After 2008 and they even did an angle with it with Jericho, I think?

Shawn said it started when he took a bad bump at Unforgiven 2004 that weakened one of the eye muscles, and then it got worse in later years.

It's one of the only firsts left in the Royal Rumble match. It has to happen at some point but, man it has to be the right guy. You only get one chance to make it count.

So of the current roster I think the two best (and only real options I could think of) for the men would be Logan Paul or Dirty Dom, and on the women’s side Jade Cargill or Tiffany Stratton.

You know who I'd have liked to see do that finish? Happy Corbin.

You could even go all the way and make it Jake Paul.

"I beat Mike Tyson, won the Royal Rumble, and I'm going to make my pro wrestling debut by winning the WWE title in the main event of WrestleMania."

You heard it here first.

So WWE content will still be on Peacock or is it all going to Netflix. Is the Historical content only going to be on their Vault YouTube channel. Where they only speaking on the International markets that still have the network? I'm confused so forgive me.

Yes, no more Network in international markets.  Still on the Cock in the US until that contact ends (next year?) and then who knows?

Thanks so, people were still getting the WWE in it’s original form before WWE migrated their content on Peacock?

I guess.  It sounds like a lot of non-US places could still get the full library on WWE Network while we in The Colonies got it all in Peacock.  Now I believe it’s everything on Peacock except Raw (Netflix) in the States while Netflix international carries the old Network content everywhere else?

I could be wrong, but I think it’s:

U.S.: Raw on Netflix, historical stuff on Peacock

Int’l: All on Netflix?

The WWE Network will continue to exist in some markets where it's run in conjunction with other companies but will probably get shut down after each of those contracts run out.

So far it has been said that in the non-US markets Netflix will have weekly episodes of Raw/Smackdown/NXT, all future PLEs, and "select programming and historic PPVs from the archive." Course "select" is pretty vague but it's not like Peacock had everything(and I'm sure still doesn't) from the WWE Network on day 1.

I tuned into the Vault stream just in time for the Gooker and boy was that an awkward segment

also... was the SS90 main event the only time Hogan came out shirtless for a period of years?

as for the actual match, gotta love stuff like Hogan hulking up out of the Powerplex and Hogan running in mid-pinfall to count Herc down

The WWE streaming options sound like chaos and I wonder if whoever at TKO is in charge of it is doing ok right now.

On a larger note, before this current up period for WWE, they were really banking on nostalgia as their big draw with the Network and merch as their main drivers. If they feel like they can make their money from the current stuff, then maintaining the nostalgia stuff become less of a priority so I could see Netflix not having as much historical stuff once the Peacock deal runs out on the US side.

Seems like something we'll have to wait and watch on.

One nostalgia problem the WWE has is that a certain amount of their post-1997 nostalgia involves Vince

anyways.. a BTSheets podcast mention of Kenzo Suzuki reminded me of how insane the original idea was

Quote

Originally, Suzuki was scheduled to debut on the Raw brand in May under the ring name Hirohito. He was to be presented as the grandson of Emperor Michi Hirohito, who ruled Japan during World War II. He would portray a Japanese patriot, holding anti-American views and wanting revenge on America for the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. However, the gimmick was dropped after the first vignette aired on the April 19, 2004 edition of Raw. Suzuki and his wife, Hiroko, reportedly told Vince McMahon directly that it would be extremely offensive in Japan and cause big problems for the company doing future business there. Suzuki also told Bruce Prichard that Emperor Hirohito was not as beloved in Japan as they thought.

Also, with Leslie Nielsen and George Kennedy working SummerSlam 94, was OJ gonna be part of that SummerSlam if not for the whole murder thing?

I doubt it, while OJ always seemed down for a payday, I think his price would have been too much, remember up until the murders he was still in commercials for big name brands like Hertz, along with being on NBC’s NFL pregame show.

well, i can't and won't speak for the WWE brass, but i, for one, had way more than enough "Jap" and "slant eye" jokes from Lawler in '97 when Taka Michinoku & Kaientai were brought in. I can't imagine how an actual Japanese WWII character would be any better. Especially since i'm pretty sure Lawler was still on TV on Raw in '04?

WAIT. unless THIS is how they were going to introduce zombie Nazi Heidenreich? Because i could almost get behind this in a tongue-in-cheek, "so bad it's good", wrestlecrap Axis Powers gimmick. but 2004 WWE was pretty dire, so i don't give them the benefit of the doubt here.

Behind the Scenes of CM Punk's return at WWE Survivor Series 2023.

I think I said this before, but that's his home. I think he wanted AEW to be his home until he got there and found that it was too chaotic, too high school, too unstructured. WWE gives him the structure he needs and with Vince gone, it's like going back home for Thanksgiving with that abusive parent out of the picture. It was bittersweet for how EVERYTHING went down, from when he initially left WWE, to not wanting anything to do with wrestling, to coming back to AEW, seeing how things went there, and now being back in WWE. I'm happy for the guy. And honestly, I'm just happy for everyone else there too.

In reference to the WWE Vault "Survivor Series found footage" video

man, there's pure chaos of trying to interview fans after Survivor Series 97... fans not knowing why they can't swear and reference WCW while being interviewed by a WWF camera

also all the Canadian/Quebecois accents and the random Americans

Lawler pronouncing it "Taka Michinoklu" used to drive me up the wall.

I don't know if it's a hot take or not, but I've always hated Jerry Lawler. Not in a "I want to see him get his ass kicked" way, but more of "I want him to swallow his tongue" kind of way.

I always just thought it was "no clue" which felt in line with other cornball insults from Lawler. But even so, God they just wasted all the Japanese and Mexican talent so hard in that era and in such fucked up and racist ways
