Also, kudos to Jim Ross on those calls last night. He really sold Suzuki big time and man, his call on Adam Cole and Bryan Danielson... That's why you have him on commentary. For moments like that to live on forever.

Yeah, while my friend was constantly ripping on him I was thinking he was having one of his better nights in AEW. Couldn't believe when he said something along the lines of thanking Punk for rekindling his passion for this business during their countdown interview. Talk about saying the quiet part out loud.

Talking about Show/special attractions brings up a thought: THERE ARE NO BIG FAT GUYS IN AEW. There still aren't even that many hoss types. ROH has more than they do! So you know Tony, if you really want some balance in your programming, throw some money at Acey Romero or Beer City Bruiser and Brion Milonakis.

Finally, someone who knows what they’re talking about.

So on one hand I see the risk of last night’s booking resulting in Adam Cole maxing out at the Scott Hall or Tully Blanchard of AEW. There are a lot of similarities there (“Bay Bay” = “survey time”, Tully’s stooging), even if Cole isn’t the in ring worker Tully in particular was.

But then again, maybe Scott Hall IS the best possible version of Adam Cole character-wise? And there’s nothing wrong with that whatsoever. Like I’d rather have him stooging around and interacting with the crowd along with 15 minute matches than the 40 minute nonsense he was doing In NXT

Hall and Tully are amongst my all time favorites, so I think I'm in for some wonderful entertainment from Adam Cole.  I had only seen a handful of his NXT bouts.  Which I enjoyed.  I'm stoked to see what he can do away from that Titan Sports style/formula match/promos.

The Butcher was a big beefy boy when he debuted in AEW. So naturally last night he returns from injury leaner than Cena.

Jade Cargill almost had a wardrobe malfunction in there, a couple of times.

As far as Jungle Boy not knowing who Urkel was, Ethan Page was on his vlog saying he was in a car with Hook and Top Flight, and none of them recognised the name Al Bundy.

Random thoughts-

Adam Cole looks re-energised.

Danielson definitely teared up when he exited the tunnel.

Was Suzuki’s appearance a legit surprise for Mox? Genuinely looked like he didn’t know.

So many potential match ups.

This reminds me of the Raw after WM30 when Bryan and The Shield closed out the show and felt like a huge breath of fresh air. Multipled by about 10.

I will lose my shit if Okada shows up at some stage.

Again, Rampage needs to get another hour. So much talent to use.

Rewatching and I love how different most of the matches are from each other. We talk about the PWG-esque house style AEW has, and while true to an extent, Miro/Kingston was unique from everything else on the card, as was Punk/Darby, Omega/Christian, etc. Omega and Christian really meet each other in the middle with their styles and it makes for a beautiful match. Two for two great matches, but with the rabid crowd for the Rampage match it was always going to be hard to match that intensity at the end of a 4 hour ppv.

Kingston and Miro are both incredible sellers. Smart match that didn't blow their load, saving some for a rematch and not killing the crowd for the rest of the show. Wonderful mean guy match. Think Miro caught Kingston on the nose with a sharp elbow drop, then he grabs Kingston's nose seconds later. Kingston selling the back after hitting the fisherman's suplex. The pop for the DDT nearfall makes me happy. Perfectly timed. Really enjoyed the match on first viewing but it's way better on second and lived up to the hype.

Jesus, let's not forget Andrade and Pac. With Pac's extended absences and not being fully used to his maximum capabilities aside from the Omega feud in year 1, he feels like a new guy. I want to see Pac vs. Miro. Andrade vs. Kingston, both guys having tried to gaslight the Lucha Brothers.

Rampage as one hour is really cool and I get people who say that's the perfect time for a wrestling show. Lots say 90 minutes, which could be a compromise but even at that point I'd imagine they'd probably want to do that live rather than taped after Dynamite. Maybe they could do Elevation at Universal too instead. But yeah, they need more time for all this talent and squash matches aren't going to do it. Hopefully taped Rampage is temporary and they expand to at least 90 minutes.

2.0 as Bulk and Skull constantly fucking with the Power Rangers will never get old to me.

I wonder what's next for the Lucha Bros.  Jurassic Express seems like they should be next up but I don't know if they want to do a face/face feud, plus it seems like JE aren't done feuding with the Elite.  Maybe Andrade finds a partner?

Santana/Ortiz or gtfo ?

Yeah. Still think you put the titles on Santana and Ortiz and have Eddie win the TNT title in NY. Yeah, that's a short reign for the Lucha Bros., but I think the time is right to pull the trigger on Santana and Ortiz. Either that or you have them beat the Bucks in a title eliminator in NY and build to the title match at Full Gear.

And it needs to come on at 8PM or 9PM.

Tremendous PPV..

Nearly a perfect show.   I am bummed that the Luchas are now 2 time tag champs while Santana / Ortiz and Jurassic Express haven't even come close to tag gold, but I am happy with the way everything went down.  Now that the belts are off of the Bucks, the Luchas can run with them for a couple of months and then transition them to someone different.

Quick thoughts-

LOVED miro/Eddie. Miros chest definitely told a story but damn miro gave just as good as he got. ? rematch on my birthday in a few weeks in NY please and thank you

Was it me or did penta tone down the taunts? Great match, fucking bloody as shit even with masks and long hair soaking up most of the red. That was a blast.

Punk and darby was all time classic IMHO. Darby gets the big brother types all the time between Moxley-sting-and punk now and I love it

Mox and Kojima was way better than anything I expected and then we get a very brief mini match with Suzuki! Dunno how long Suzuki will be stateside for, but if we can see it I'd love to get Suzuki and Garcia in a tag against Bryan and (pick punk or darby) before he heads back

Women's casino- main highlight for me was abadon walking up behind emi and shida, and cranking her own neck to yell at shida while emi drops to her knees of fright lmao. Penelope looked great in there, her and Bunny were bringing the hate against Anna and Tay and I'd love either of these teams getting into a feud with Iinspiration if they land here. Wished Leyla could have gone a bit longer but she got a great spot in with Nyla so IMHO that was pretty great

Cole immediately joining up was fantastic but then Danielson just steamrolls in and they're both made in minutes IMHO

Kenny dropping the belt soon and disappearing to heal up while Cole takes the reins for Elite makes so much sense i almost feel like that's the direction but what tf do I know ?

Little things, but:

I love that we can now draw an in-ring line of “alt-kids’ favorite wrestler who sits weirdly in the corner” from Raven to Punk to Darby, and that they cribbed the “the kid got me” head nod from Bret/1-2-3 Kid.

And I’m really happy that, although he wasn’t the first choice and got overshadowed, Kojima got this spot, showed well, and got a really good reaction. And his twitter indicates he’s really happy, too.

I actually thought Statlander got a solid amount of support in this match, and Britt even got *lightly* booed at a couple of points.  They were definitely starting to rally behind Stat late in the match, which is not something that’s happened in any of Britt’s matches with faces since fans came back. So overall, I’d say this was a success for Stat. She didn’t get chewed up and spit out like Velvet*, who I’m afraid has no choice but to turn heel soon; she even got booed a bit during the battle royal.

*I realize this is not a fair comparison for Velvet, as she’s relatively green talent who got thrown into a situation she was not ready for. But I didn’t book it.

I was thankfully at the show live, and can definitely vouch for that, as Statlander won the crowd over during the match. She has really raised her stock with the company with her performances in suburban Chicago on Rampage and at All Out, and think that she will be a future champ now (even with a stacked company and AEW generally being fairly conservative with title changes). Some other thoughts from the show:

Holy shit is Eddie Kingston over. Really want him to want a big title match soon (ideally in Newark or Dynamite: Grand Slam in front of his fans), but the screwy finish protects him and also sets up a re-match (and this was the first time Miro really needed to cheat to win as TNT champ).

After seeing fucking Minoru Suzuki and his entrance live, I already felt like I had gotten my money's worth for the night (Mox's entrance is also awesome live). Moxley-Kojima was actually very good for a match where there was only one winner (and Kojima was pretty over with the crowd). Despite his age, Kojima can still go when called upon and has really delivered in bigger spots this year (this match and the Ospreay match on the New Beginning tour).

Sorry Matt D, but Young Bucks-Lucha Brothers absolutely ruled and is right there with Young Bucks-Omega/Hangman as the best match in AEW history. Yes, it featured a lot of crazy highspots and elements of the modern style, but still told a great story and had great pacing to turn back the clock to previous eras. Also, definitely not a coincidence that the Young Bucks are the common denominator of two of AEW's best/ most memorable matches. The crowd definitely spent a lot of energy on the match and it was probably the peak of excitement match-wise for the night, but god damn was that match insane.

Credit to all of the women in the battle royal for putting on a solid spectacle following an all-time classic match, and damn Ruby Soho was over (as was Thunder Rosa).

Jericho-MJF was decent, even though that was truly the death spot on the crowd (and while the Jericho entrance sounded good on paper, it was absolutely the wrong time on the card to execute that after the last two matches). Great time to pull out that finish though, as that roped the crowd back in and created a strong reaction to Jericho winning the match.

Punk-Darby was a very good wrestling match, but not quite all-time classic/MOTY level. Happy to see Punk came in arguably the best shape of his career, and he moved very crisply and executed all of his moves cleanly. Darby aided him and the match with his insane bumping, and think that Punk has another level to hit and a re-match could also jump a couple of levels (especially if Darby wins). Still, for his first match in seven years, a fine outing for Punk and delivered what it needed to.

Omega and Christian absolutely worked their asses off, and with a different crowd/different place could have also been an all-time classic. Crowd was pro-Kenny, and Christian can definitely pull off a justified heel-turn down the road. Props to the Blood and Guts mention with the ending interaction, as I want to see the next one with The Elite (with Cody re-joining them with his heel turn) and a team of Danielson/Christian/Jurassic Express and say Hangman (and possibly as the main event of Revolution) before Christian turns. Man the post-match was well done with Adam Cole's entrance (and he got a great reaction live before aligning with The Elite) and then Bryan Danielson coming out (and promo for the live crowd was really cool, and hopefully will be part of the DVD, even if the have to bleep out Danielson a bit).

Definitely the best event that I have ever attended (and that includes a pretty solid Wrestlemania, Mania 22, and two of WWE's best events this century in Money in The Bank 2011 and Extreme Rules 2012). AEW is basically what would happen if you could put together the best elements/features of ECW and WCW (a major promotion that clearly presents itself as such while still delivering for its dedicated and respecting and even cherishing them like a small business/company).

I wonder how much Europe was asking for.

Apparently they asked for $50k each time it was used back in 07/08 or whatever when Danielson was doing the run in ROH. Someone from ROH tweeted about it in response to that very question.

Damn, Europe must be doing well to ask for such a fee and I can see why AEW went the direction they did. I don't love it, but it's fine.

I'm guessing Tony wanted it in perpetuity and Europe was like, lolno.

Kahn then went Howard Hughes and bought the entire continent of Europe including all it's IP.
