The stigma mental health issues carry is really sad and the general ignorance and/or lacking of compassion is equally as sad, especially on a board that is generally more progressive and caring than other places. 3 minutes ago, Nice Guy Eddie said: IMO, Graves concussion history would make it that much sweeter if Bas Rutten or Frank Shamrock were to repeatedly punch him in the head. Ummm... Eddie? Brain damage is kind of, sort of, a mental health issue, like technically. Also, Bas would only need one punch, assuming he was doing his car key deal. 3

I'm sure his character would have some particular things to say to that jerk Graves. Picking on a guy who literally has a movie about his mental problems floating around out there, man... really?

username
Meltz does seem to really call very few people when reporting on his stories, it's a bit of a whatever here but the same thing happened with the whole Elgin deal and... I think Meltz might be a worst journalist than Corey is a co-worker.
odessasteps
On the drive thru today, Brian asked if Dave called Jim to get his side of the stuff from last week. I am pretty close with Matt's brother Sam (Used to be close with Matt too 15 yrs or so ago but anyhow) Matt came in to do a show here in Pittsburgh and he had his kids with him. The kids were extremely well behaved and they made signs for their dad and for Uncle Sam (adonis and no the signs were not red, white, and blue) Matt has always been hot headed though and will sometimes tweet or say things in the spur of the moment. Sam is the same way, think back to what he said at the Rev Pro show that got him in hot water. Do I think he intended to hurt Mauro? No I don't, but I do think he was trying to make a joke that didn't go over nearly as he hoped it would.

I hope you never know how awful that kind of thing is, or even just how bad a bout of even plain old anxiety is. And you're doing the same thing to a more vicious extent except you don't work with these people. So you can call Corey a terrible person despite not knowing Graves on a personal level because you're "right". Again, the tweet from Corey is not cool. It's a jerk move. But calling it some sort of obscene vicious slander because Graves said Mauro talks too much is a bridge too far. And Mauro and the people in this thread reacting as though it is aren't being honest with themselves. Unless we are going to pretend that someone who is bi-polar can't be the subject of any criticism which is ridiculous when he's a public figure. Graves' tweet is a 2/10 on the bad thing scale and the response is as though he did a 12/10 including saying he should be physically beaten.

And I'm lending nothing to this discussion on principle (I likes my pro life and personal interests as separate as possible), but I am fascinated by the discussion as it's transpiring over what constitutes compassion & perception of the basic principles of what it means to suffer with mental illness, from people on the outside looking in. It legit helps me get a feel for how to coach my clients when they come in, feeling invalidated by family/friends who think that a simple "Why don't you just calm down?" or "There's nothing wrong with you," or "Just get over it already" is enough support.

You're really downplaying everything here in order to be right and I have no idea why I'm replying. What Graves said is not the issue. It's how he said it and who he said it to. This goes beyond "criticism" and you're the one being intellectually dishonest with yourself for claiming such. Or you just can't wrap your head around it and damn, if that's the case, I feel bad for you. Context matters. How you say something, where you say it, and who you say it too all matter. Let's take Graves at face value and assume he honestly had an issue with Mauro's commentary style. Mauro is bipolar and doesn't take well to being fucked with/bullying/etc. He could: A) Approach him in private and discuss it B) Mock him on Twitter In what world is point B okay? In what world is that behavior just considered just "criticism?" Thank you for admitting it's "a jerk move." Normally, that's all I would call this. But his target in this case is a guy with an actual and well-documented disorder, which puts this far beyond "jerk move." Someone on reddit made the analogy of seeing a person with a broken leg and kicking him in the shin. Someone else said "talking privately means you're talking TO someone. Talking publicly means you're talking ABOUT someone." I don't know why this is so difficult to understand. Someone on reddit made the analogy of seeing a person with a broken leg and kicking him in the shin. I don't know why this is so difficult to understand. Or, as someone put it on WOL, it would be like if a grocery store had a meeting and you decided to call out one co-worker for being annoying over the intercom letting both customers and employees know. And it's also not just what Graves said. It was also him replying to and liking others comments knocking Mauro. I'm sick and fucking tired of the comments like, "well Mauro should know where he's working," or "maybe WWE isn't the best place for Mauro to work," or "he shouldn't be so sensitive," or "people who are bipolar shouldn't be exempt from criticism," or "everyone is pearl clutching." That is all bullshit, it's gross, and it shows a complete lack of understanding. Hey, how about WWE take into consideration those with certain sensitivities and operate like many other professional companies. This company is so full of shit when it comes to anti-bullying and be a star and whatever. How about you put your foot down on mocking your peers outside of any sort of storyline? We've already discussed the part about being sensitive, but the part about being exempt from criticism really irks me. No, that's not what this is about. Mauro or anyone else who has severe depression or ADHD or mental illness or bipolar disorder or any other mental illness isn't exempt from criticism, but maybe take into account what you're saying and how you're saying it. Like you said, having a private conversation would have been far better than mocking someone on Twitter and liking other tweets making fun of Mauro.

The Man Known as Dan
God, remember when wrestling forums were used to talk about wrestling instead of personal dramas between two atrocious announcers? Like, it’s not a shot at anyone here, because anywhere involving wrestling is talking about it and can’t be avoided, it’s just a general frustration of mine. I’m so completely over the “let’s talk about athletes and/or performers real life drama over the actual thing they do” bullshit which dominated culture now a days. It was a big part of why I zoned out from the NBA, and it’s pushing me so far into old wrestling tapes because there I can just acknowledge “yeah, most of the guys in these are probably awful people” and be over it. Social media has gotten everyone closer to the performers, when al it’s revealed is they are just as petty or flawed as anyone else. Shock of shocks. Mini-Rant over, once I’m off work I’m gonna go watch some 84 AWA. 2
