cool arrow Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Her Wikipedia page (yeah, I know) says she trained Moolah too.
FLIK Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Did she train anyone who ever amounted to anything? She was one of Crash Holly's early trainers.
bink_winkleman Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Eh, I think back in the olden days, some dads really liked the idea of naming a kid after themselves, even if the kid ended up a girl. Obama's mom's first name was Stanley for similar reasons. I (or my grandmother, I guess) actually knew a couple older ladies named "Johnnie" growing up. The "ie" was the feminine spelling. Might just have been an old timey Southern thing.
Harbinger Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Anybody know the context of the above pic? I'm going out on a limb here but I bet she telling him how tight to hold the headlock with a super vulgar sexual pun. 3
Web Conn Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I like the story Jericho told in his first book about the first time he met ol' Johnnie Mae. I know i'm butchering the story but somebody will correct me but, Jericho was working for some indie promotion in SoCal around 92ish that had a program on an local access channel. Jericho, I believe was visiting his father and found himself in the channels television studio one weekend morning wrestling a then 68 year old Mae Young how if I'm remembering right punched a young Chris in the face and told him to dive outside of the ring onto her standing on the floor.
odessasteps Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I feel like the title to this thread should be screamed at me by Garrett Morris. Oh, and yay Mae. mae young > francisco franco 1
NintendoLogic Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Mae is probably calling the grim reaper a pussy and punching him in the face every time he pulls her towards the pearly gates. Mae Young vs Undertaker at WM? What an amazing woman. 21-1 2

Can someone elaborate on this? These are the kind of stories that need to be known.
Kaptain Kayfabe Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Metlzer is now reporting that she was never on life support (much less taken off) at any time this past week. Mooneyham is usually a great source of info but he has been horrible on this one...
TheVileOne Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Didn't Moneyham also report that she died? Shouldn't he be fired or suspended for that?
Peck Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Stephanie McMahon just tweeted that Mae passed tonight. RIP.
Reed Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Would have loved her to recover, but this was inevitable. Even if she was never on life support, she was 90 and her kidneys were badly failing. That type of situation never ends well.
Brian Fowler Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 So, now, again... A toast to the toughest damn person this business ever saw. 3
TimLivingston Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 One time where I wish the arm didn't drop a third time. Rest in peace.
DreamBroken Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Damn. Glad she got a few more days. RIP Mae
The Unholy Dragon Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRrUPF1uGvM Very possibly the greatest women's wrestler in North American history. RIP. 2
BrianS81177 Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I didn't see it mentioned, but I would assume she died in her sleep. Because (to steal the famous Teddy Roosevelt quote) if death had tried to take her awake, there would have been a fight. 3
Pete Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 She worked a great false finish before the bell finally rang... gotta love it. 3
Uncle Coaster Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Sad day. I have a picture from 2005 of me, Mae and Moolah that I absolutely cherish. I brought it into the office and have it sitting alongside my desk today. 2
