Wouldn't it be funny if WWE tried to contest that application and say it was theirs, not his? And they will give the "Big Show taking the Yes chant for himself" as evidence! 2
NoFistsJustFlips Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 A lot of guys that are smart to the business side of the wrestling business pay attention to that and get the trademarks when they see them lapse or expire. If only for the Pro wrestling tees and merch possibilities. Billy Gunn shouldn't own that but he does. Santino Marella shouldn't own that but he does. Rated R Superstar. There's a bunch. And I love it. Because WWE generates enough revenue off of the performers. To me letting them own ring names and trademarks is just ethical business practices. They got these things over. They should be allowed to profit from them. 8

Were that the case, I'd assume Danielson's team would counter with footage of the original MMA dude he lifted it from (but that of course opens the door to an argument or judgment that *neither* should own it). I've always found the trademark/IP part of wrestling to be really, really interesting for whatever reason - maybe I'll come back as a TM attorney in the next life. ETA: It's probably more of a discord topic so I'm not gonna elaborate further, but talking trademarks, you should Google what's going on with "Val Venis" if you'd like a feel-good chuckle today Edited July 30, 2024 by Zakk_Sabbath 5
zendragon Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 I know the Vaudevillians own their name, same with Haku. Seems at some point WWE just stopped hanging onto Trademarks indefinitely

Listen, I'm not saying that Bryan Danielson having to work a match against Diego Sanchez for the rights to the Yes chant would be a good idea, yet... 1
TheVileOne Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 I'm surprised Danielson is pursuing the trademark rights now. Didn't he basically avoid using them beforehand out of respect for Kevin Dunn of all people? I mean I think he should get that since he made that his mantra and it got over because of him and it rallied fans behind him to make WrestleMania 30 happen. But like if WWE is able to keep Zack Ryder away from Cardona, I don't see how Danielson will be able to obtain the rights for "Yes!" unless the brain trust are like "Yeah we like Danielson, we'll let him have this."
NoFistsJustFlips Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 (edited) Pretty surprised no one has posted about the TK - Shane O Mac meeting. There's a leaked picture from it and everything. They met in Arlington this week. No guarantee it leads to anything but man what a world we're in where a McMahon might be wrestling on a non WWE event. Edited July 31, 2024 by NoFistsJustFlips 4

NikoBaltimore Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Yeah, but who took the picture and how was it "leaked"? I would feel something like that is worth a "no camera" policy no matter how close you are with TK. 1

Assuming Pete doesn't do it of course.

If you meet a tall man with thick muscular legs in an ATJ Lucko shirt and listening to "Wild Boys" by Duran Duran, that's gonna be Mirko CroCop. BTW I vote to have next week's thread be titled, "Ass Boys, never close your eyes." 2
RazorbladeKiss87 Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 So we're going to get Darby vs Shane O'Mac right? 1 1

Maybe that's something to consider when talking about this rumored big stadium show down there - the last Mania I watched had Shane vs Taker in the cell there. Maybe its a situation where the feeling was that having a key piece of that show in Shane would go a long way in terms of doing business with the building, local government, etc.? 3

Just throwing plausible ideas out, not saying for sure that's the reasoning. But you purposely "leak" the picture to get the buzz. Maybe some people start tuning in looking for him to show up. It's an odd picture tho. Because it has the little HDR tag on it. It almost seems like a surveillance or security cam screen shot. But they're both looking directly at the picture taking source. So that seems unlikely. Edited July 31, 2024 by NoFistsJustFlips
RazorbladeKiss87 Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 (edited) I was mostly throwing out something I thought would be outlandish and insane but I see your point. I could see Shane being viewed as a "safe" element of a hugely successful company by non-wrestling people. I hope we're all ready for Ospreay to try and drag him to a thirty minute match. Actually, it'd be fun to see Brody King just destroy him. ETA: It might also be fun to see him in a BS match with OC. (I use BS respectfully) Edited July 31, 2024 by RazorbladeKiss87 1
AxB Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 It's probably just a way to scare Triple H into getting Shane back under WWE contract. 1
odessasteps Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 If it helps TK get his TV deal, any BS would be worth it for him. 2
