  3. I will never understand someone picking Miss Elizabeth over Trish Stratus. Elegance? What the hell do I need with elegance? Just because someone wears some long ass gloves doesn't make her elegant, it just means she is wearing some long ass gloves.

  4. Jesus gets heat because he's the booker's kid but he earned his spot. He cut amazing promos, nobody was a better seller and he is still just about the biggest draw ever. He's so over that every athlete who ever wins anything makes sure to thank him, now THAT'S an amazing babyface.

  6. He did, he said it was very painful because of things he was called as a child and asked them to drop it. Which I think they did. Henry should be in the Good Sport Hall OF Fame. Dude did a lot of stuff others would veto.

  7. My takeaway is that Vince spent a fortune on fake Global Gold and this is the only way to get his money back.

  8. I'm going to bet, Jarrett was cleaning out one of his dad's storage containers and stumbled upon a forgotten box that contains broadcast quality copies of the entire Continental/Memphis/USWA library and ran straight to Vince.

  10. JJ Dillon doesn't age. I know it's been said before but he and Arn are two dudes who looked 40-50 when they were 20 and still look like they're 50 when they're 60-70.

  20. It's a fair point about his 2017 being a let down. Right now he seems to be not doing anything noteworthy and I feel he should be. Went to the show last night and wish I knew @Cyanide was there, but glad that we both dug the show. Him and @Oyaji covered the main points on the show which I generally agree with. The only thing is I wish they didn't announce the elimination match was number one contender. It became to me a foregone conclusion that it'd be Riddle winning, but the match was still pretty good. As for Henry/Drake as a team I liked them well enough but the case against Henry was spot-on. I don't know how long he's been doing this but he really needs to whittle his offense down to stuff that makes sense for what he's trying to get across. From what I saw of him in Evolve and MCW he comes across as a guy still trying to figure it out. Haven't seen much of Drake but while he's good he didn't show much to impress me. The prelim matches were good, and I was surprised how much I liked Jarek 1:20's match against Jason Kincaid. Pretty good match and I love his magician gimmick, and holy shit the voice on Candy Cartwright. I met both of them and they're super nice people. He wasn't sure if he had an injured foot and was worried about how he'd look out there. But I didn't see any issues with movement and he seemed relieved by that. One of my best friends was actually the guy driving the wrestlers everywhere and while he's not a wrestling fan at all (he was helping Trevin) he had a good time hanging with them. They had breakfast at a Dennys with William Regal there along with everybody else. He didn't understand why I was super jealous but knowing one of my friends had breakfast with them all (Regal paid for it) is astounding. After the show they went to Jimmy's and Horseshoe Casino. I really need to try and get in on this next time they come around. Oh, and I also met Regal before the show. He is the definition of a class act and is an incredibly nice guy. He explained why he never tried acting, but he seemed really happy with my compliments about his humor and facial expressions. Between seeing the Horsemen live Saturday and this it's been a great couple days.

  21. It's worth noting that, when you look at the biggest factions in wrestling history, Jarrett has been a member of the NWO, the Horsemen, the Bullet Club and of course Planet Jarrett. This also finally puts to rest the "Vince hates Jarrett" talk that's been going round for years. No doubt that there was some animosity straight after Jarrett left, but it was long ago reported (and confirmed by JJ) that Vince rang Jarrett after Jill Jarrett's death so there must have been some level of cordiality between them. Jarrett never demanded extra money from Vince for the Chyna match, just what he was owed up front, so there was always the possibility of this day coming.

  22. Considering how things went in 2005, I doubt AJ gets above the midcard. AJ doesn't get this run in WWE without the NJPW run. He doesn't get the NJPW run without TNA, and Jarrett was the one pushing him toward the top of the card initially in TNA. I mean, I'd love to crap on Jarrett and love throw shade at TNA, but there are a ton of guys that don't get serious WWE runs without TNA/Impact, and that started with Jarrett deciding to fill the #2 vacuum in.

  23. What are your thoughts on Anthony Henry and James Drake? Henry strikes me as your typical mid 2000s small US indie guy doing a tonne of moves that don't matter and comes off like he's playing wrestler. His "in-between stuff" is dreadful. Callihan dragged a good match out of him in PWX, but it was largely Callihan. I'll say his manager is fine though. James Drake is a bit better but needs to be meaner from the EVOLVE matches I've seen him in and gets way too cute for a guy his size. If he doesn't want to be labeled as a big/fat guy, lose weight and wrestle like everybody else. As is, it feels like two regional indie guys that don't really belong in EVOLVE. Darby is fascinating. One of my friends knows him fairly well through wrestling and guy is pretty much his character 24/7. He's got a bit of Shane Douglas Syndrome in him though, in that he's such a great babyface in the ring but I don't think his character is somebody the average indie fan really wants to get behind. Like he'll be cutting this emotional plea to the audience and he's met with either apathy, a smattering of applause and support, and one or two jerks jeering him and talking shit. So, he's a great underdog in the ring, but I think his natural character screams more heel in that it's not a tonne of people will connect with on an emotional level. We'll see how he continues to develop, but he's one of the most exciting wrestlers in the US right now imo. That Mania weekend match with WALTER could be one of the few indie matches to surpass WALTER/Thatcher this year. Also, it sounds like he's not too far away from an NXT deal either. I don't know how I feel about that. I have more faith in HHH getting the character than I do Vince, lol. I'll be pretty surprised if Theory isn't in NXT this time next year. He's still so ridiculously young, so they may do what they do with a lot of really talented youngsters and tell them to keep honing their craft and sign them in a year or two down the road. His physique and mechanics are really high end particularly when you take his experience and age into factor. Fucking guy was born in 1997! He's also way better as a heel than generic underdog youngboy that nobody had an attachment to. I know this is somewhat sacrilegious on DVDVR, but I can't get 100% into Yehi. Some of what he does is great, but most of his act I don't buy and he generally bores me. I haven't been watching much EVOLVE after they left Floslam and I feel like the WWN Club thing is antiquated and am reluctant to join. Was really let down by his 2017 in EVOLVE after digging the odd match I had seen previously and reading all the praise on here for him.

  24. Evolve 101 live thoughts: Fan of the prelim matches. Quick, competent work from just about everybody involved, and like the format as a showcase for guys who aren't doing anything else or can come back or move up down the line. Opening tag match kind of got away from me. This sounds like a dumb quibble as I think through it, but The End's music kept going for what felt like the first third of the match, which is a minor technical screw-up but was really weird and disorienting live (disclaimer: I'm currently half-deaf in one ear from an upper respiratory virus, so YMMV) and everything after just felt like a brawl stretched out into a slapdash match. Yehi/Mercer I dug. Fred Yehi is still the best and now he's out here throwing snap half-nelson whips. First time seeing Mercer and I liked what he brought to the table. ZSJ/Dickinson was great. Dickinson continues to straddle that line between being a convincing big, dumb, violent lug and an actual big, dumb, violent lug. Sabre is maybe pound-for-pound the best wrestler in the world in making every match feel like a fight for every blow and every hold. Keith/Tracy no holds barred was actually a bit of a bummer. Keith Lee was awesome as always, but Hot Sauce was basically made to look like a geek, getting pasted with power shots over and over, and only really able to get any offense off cheap shots to the knee, outside interference, and chair and ladder attacks. Just kind of a plodding and sloppy bout in general I don't think I've seen any of their one-on-one matches previously; curious how they match-up in a more standard affair. Really liked the four-way elimination main event. Riddle was amazing as always. Jaka is still great. You can keep Johnny Gargano; Darby Allin has come on from basically just being a one-note heel the last time I saw him live to a complete wrestler and maybe my favorite never-say-die underdog babyface in the business going into 2018. Even Austin Theory was very sharp here and looks like he's really thriving in his cocky Evolution/Next Big Thing gimmick under Priscilla Kelly.

  28. There are several good TV matches with Rey and Taker from 06 Smackdown. A couple really good ones with Booker T on Raw in November of 03 and at Armageddon that year. A couple really good ppv matches with Show from 2011, along with the very good Orton matches. From early 06 there is a great Smackdown Battle Royal for the World Title built mostly around Henry's presence. Him and Rusev had some really strong matches in I think 2014.

  30. He can't ever retire because no one will be willing to believe him and/or be dumb enough to be in the room when he announces it. So he's pretty much stuck.

  36. I do. The gentleman's name was Johnny Valentine and if you had told me a couple of years ago that I'd be comparing a 24 year-old kid with one of the greatest heels of all time, I'd have laughed. I'd also have been dead wrong to do so. Pete Dunne is my favorite wrestler in the world not named "Naito". He really makes you believe that he's there just to fuck people up. Winning is all well and good, but leaving a trail of broken bodies is what winds his clock.

  38. I already buy Baszler as more of an intimidating badass than Ronda "point and smile at the WM sign" Rousey, so I would be cool with Baszler eventually turning on her. I'll echo the love for Strong/Dunne and also the working in of the finger break spot being fantastic. Strong's work is very solid, but I really miss the added edge of his complete bastard heel persona in PWG.

  39. Oh. my. Goodness. The leader was already starting to give post race interviews, when out of absolutely NOWHERE, Ester Ledecka comes down to win the women's Super-G skiing by .01. Her season's best in the World Cup? 19th. (she had a 7th last season) She was 43rd int he World Cup standings Oh, and the fact is, she was racing on borrowed skis, because she's really here for the SNOWBOARDING EVENTS next week. And a big oopsie to NBC, who had already anointed the gold medalist, but then again, who could've seen this coming

  40. Today a caller spent five minutes trying to get me to switch careers. For those who haven't previously seen me oversharing about my job, I work fro the IRS and my usual workday is to spend 1.5-3 hours answering incalls and the rest of the day doing paper cases like installment payment requests, misapplied payments (90 percent of the time this means the second spouse on a return tried to make a payment toward a joint debt but got the year wrong, preventing a systemic transfer from the "dummy" account that usually just says "Hey, this person filed as this other person's spouse!" to the person who put their name on Line 1) and gently explaining to people that we all believe that they lost money on their 2012 401k flush, but they have to file a return to show that loss or we're legally obligated to assume 100% profit. I usually get at least one compliment on my voice and phone manner per week. My usual response is "I did choir and theatre in high school and added a little radio in college; it pushed the East Texas out of me." Most people say something generic about how they could see that making me well-suited for my current line. This guy was different, and repeatedly encouraged me to look him up on LinkedIn so he could hook me up with his friend who directs national radio ads and could hook me up with other voice directors. There is basically no chance of me making that kind of a life change a month away from 41, and there is a huge chasm between the vocal skills to calm someone in a panic over an IRS letter vs the vocal skills needed to play a character, but it was the most flattering interaction I've had with a taxpayer in 7 years at this job and I wanted to gush a little.
