And if Starks and May and The Lucha Bros and Vaquer work really hard, hopefully next year they can be lucky enough to have their new employer pay a hack comedian to say racist/sexist things about them in front of a bunch of people!

Mariah isn't being used probably because her story is over. Why carve out more time on tv and take tv time away from someone else for someone who served their purpose, played out a storyline over the course of two years, and is destined to leave the company. It isn't like she has a ton of time left on her contract anyway. If she's put on tv all people are going to want to see is her and Toni and that's done. In some cases I'm not in favor of purely not using someone, but in the case, fuck it, that storyline ruled and she has earned some time off before she goes and signs to NXT.

I'm gonna sound like I'm talking out of both sides of my mouth on this one. I find value in this. I do miss the territory days where there was good turnover and no one's runs really overstayed their welcome. People came in and made a difference until they didn't and they moved on and did the same somewhere else. I miss that freshness to the shows as a viewer.

That's from a fan perspective. It's a new day and age. It's the contract era. If I signed a contract for multiple years and you only use me for one story, even a year long one, then you're done with me? That's not very ideal. I'm not going to be happy. If that's disclosed ahead of time I'm not signing with you ahead of time because of it.

So I agree with you from the fan perspective. It makes for a better show as a viewer sometimes to have a really tight story beginning middle end and then when it ends it really ends. But if you're viewing it from the performers perspective that's not going to be appreciated. That's not going to be embraced. That will factor into future performers' thought processes on signing with you.

Bryan Danielson speaks:

Bryan Danielson isn’t completely closing the door on returning to the ring, but he’s comfortable saying “enough is enough.”

Danielson was in London for yesterday’s Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn weigh-in and spoke with JNMedia’s Jamal Niaz. He was asked if there’s a chance he will return to AEW to challenge Jon Moxley and responded, “Yeah, but my neck is wrecked.”

When asked if there was any chance of him returning to the ring at all, Danielson continued:

“So, it’s not ‘no chance’ but it’s risk versus reward, at this point. I want to be able to live comfortably with my wife and kids. One of the things our society has a real problem with is realizing when enough is enough and I’m very satisfied with my career and I think enough is enough.”

Eubank Jr. vs. Benn takes place today at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London. Earlier in the interview, Danielson spoke about how the build to the fight resembles a wrestling storyline.

“I’m a fan of (Eubank Jr.) but I’m also a fan of the build to this fight,” Danielson said. “It’s like better than a pro wrestling build. It’s like they took so many elements from pro wrestling into this thing – the rivalry between the fathers, even the intrigue about Chris Eubanks Jr’s dad, that they’re not really in good connection – there’s so much drama and intrigue into this fight, but I’m a Chris Eubanks Jr. guy.”

Following his loss to Jon Moxley at WrestleDream last October, Danielson said he is hoping to avoid neck surgery. Dave Meltzer reported at the time that Danielson planned to undergo stem cell treatment in an effort to avoid going under the knife. In December, Danielson stated that the chances of him returning to the ring were “50/50.”

Oh if someone would have made a domestic violence joke on Stephanie, Nick Khan would've tackled that person off the stage like a Secret Service agent protecting the President. They don't need that shit with the Janel Grant lawsuit going on. That would have brought an abrupt halt to the proceedings for the afternoon.

I don't watch this stuff anymore, but I heard the commercial bumpers enough times during NBA games that I recognized the Elton John reference, and didn't think it was anything but filler. But I just caught the intro, and actually using that song almost makes me want to watch.

Almost.

If the word is out that someone is leaving the company there’s no real reason to put them on tv. The fans will know they’re leaving and some amount of them will just shrug when they put someone over on their way out.

It’s part of the problem with everything being online you can’t really put someone over on your way out when everyone knows that you’re leaving plus  the promotions will catch flak from fans for “burying them” and shit (often from the same fans who will post online about how they miss the old days)

I agree.  Tony Khan would have been KILLED by the fans if Sting had lost to the Young Bucks on his way into retirement.  30 years ago it's not even a question that Sting probably would have put someone over in that spot.  It's not how the game works anymore.  A lot of things have changed.

Oh, no doubt. I’m sure he’d have a talk with them beforehand that that kind of thing was totally off limits. Just stick to the racist stuff, guys! That stuff is funny. Stuff that might hurt our ongoing sexual assault lawsuit is just tasteless.

What is weird is that I recall it being pretty clear Ricochet was leaving for AEW, he had killer matches with Bron Breaker and Ilja Dragunov to make the new faces look good in front of an audience that didn't know them, got a couple months off and ended up in AEW and you know what? Everyone won! I'm sure WWE would have rather he wanted to stick around but the way they handled it benefited them, him, Bron and Ilja, the fans, even AEW.

Megan Bayne can still end up as nothing more than the monster of the month (or so), let her beat a former world champ in a good match then stretcher Mariah out! Handling it as-is isn't the end of the world but it ain't the best way to go about things, it doesn't really benefit anyone and going "yeah, this feels like a dumb way to go about things" is pretty fair IMO.

Tony Khan has announced for next week's AEW Dynamite:

Omega/Briscoe/Speedball/Knight vs Okada/Ricochet/Young Bucks.

First time Omega/Okada in a match since 2018 in NJPW!

How long did PAC sit at home, waiting for his WWE deal to expire? Over a year, wasn't it?

And he wasn't even jumping to AEW, because AEW didn't exist yet. Brodie Lee was another guy who WWE benched for months because he let it be known he was leaving at the end of his deal, and then saw his deal extended (due totime missed via injury) to keep him from going elsewhere.

I mean, as a wrestling fan, I want to see wrestlers wrestle. But if I had a job, and my boss decided he'd rather pay me to sit at home than have me actually go to work, I'd be pretty happy with the free money. Even if my job wasn't getting beaten up for a living (which, let's face it, is every wrestler's job).

They literally killed him off TV.  This isn't telling the entire story.

I'd love to see AEW stop excessively 'switchtasking' all their information during the matches. It's incredibly distracting, and a complete waste. Let Renee do a focused segment running down ticket info, upcoming matches, and TV schedulings. Let the information be heard properly and let the matches breathe.

After listening to @Phil Schneider’s excellent interview with Eddie Kingston, I checked out the Kingston/Hero Last Man Standing match from IWA MS. Really excellent match and seeing Remsburg with hair did my head in.

Ian gets shit on (justifiably) for his business practices, but there was a period around ‘04-‘08 or so that IWA MS  was just putting out an insane amount of great matches. That Hero/Kingston match is in the top tier of them. I’d love to see them get to have one more match with each other.

And that's fine?  We know he's didn't actually die and it really put Bron over.

Impact/TNA had a run of having people leave and on screen they were either murdered or arrested.

Slightly random but am I the only one who can’t stand Matt Jackson and thinks Nick is so much better? Even ignoring in ring where Nick has always been the star, Matt Jackson’s facial expressions and mannerisms are just the most forced, try hard, cringe acting, where Nick’s body language, charisma, and comedic timing feel natural and nuanced. It’s so crazy how similar yet pronounced the differences are to me between brothers.

I can't stand either but for what it's worth, I've got more time for Nick Jackson for the reasons you give. Matt Jackson's facial expressions make me want to reach through my tablet and slap him how Obelix in the Asterix comic book slaps people.

I only caught the first 30 minutes or so of Collision but I noticed that same thing during their opening promo with Swerve. Matt was just laying it in so comically thick, and not even in a "so bad it's good" way. I don't pay much attention to them in-ring but now that you mention it Nick is always the one I see pinballing around the ring and selling. Dammit, now I'm gonna have to pay more attention to their matches.

Edit: I also have to mention that I absolutely hate their EVP Trigger or whatever they want to call it. It always looks like weak shit and should never end a match

Thought it was fine unsaid/implied with "gave him a couple months off" but I literally said the next paragraph to have Bayne kill May off if you want. Heck run it exactly the same, minus the terrifying accidental backbump onto concrete Ricochet went out on.

I wouldn't mind if they did I'm just saying that it's not generally how Tony Khan does things.  He tends to focus on wrestlers who want to be there and puts the others on ice until the contract runs out.

I don't believe a win over Mariah does much when the entire crowd knows she's leaving anyway but I'd be cool with them doing it if they chose to.

I still am not sure which one is Matt or Nick. I also was never sure which one was Max or Jeremy. I'll try to pay more attention and see if I can notice what you are saying. They just are "oh, good workrate tag match" to me.
