Collision intro" 2
Craig H Posted January 3 Posted January 3 I think I would have liked to have seen something bigger from the first simulcast episode of Dynamite. It wasn't bad, it was just...there. It wasn't even really boring. There just wasn't much different about it compared to past episodes and not have CC matches left them without anything that would be considered must see.
Curt McGirt Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Sir Elton was on Colbert recently and said he'd play anything live still, "except fucking Crocodile Rock". So clearly, the man has his own dislikes as well 3 1

HarryArchieGus Posted January 3 Posted January 3 This second GNR AEW video felt completely overstuffed (like the post Full Gear cut of November Rain). The decision to make these last two relentlessly fast feels like a mistake. It's hard to imagine what somebody would retain from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXvElEsPdZg

Go2Sleep Posted January 4 Posted January 4 "Cope" is such a bad idea. Even if everyone calls him that for shorthand, and there are two other prominent Adams on the show, you don't make that his official name. One thing WWE got right was never giving into calling The Undertaker "Taker" on a full-time basis, even though it was a common nickname for him. Of course, they got it wrong with nearly everyone else by having them drop a first or last name or go by their initials, which is what "Cope" reminds me of. Luckily they've had the sense to not do the same thing with Mox, but I do remember them having Cody Rhodes go by just Cody for a bit. Ricochet's angle is pretty good, though. I hated that toilet paper segment at World's End, but it makes sense as a launching off point for him snapping (still makes no sense that Swerve would be the one doing Vince-style humor, but whatever). The golden scissors were Bowens' weapon of choice in Blood and Guts last year, so I wonder if there's a connection there. 3

He ended up getting it back by trading them Bash at the Beach & one other one I can't remember for sure. Cody had bought those trademarks because WWE failed to renew them. They tired to get around it by always announcing him as "The American Nightmare" Cody... and Brandi Rhodes. She was able to work as Brandi Rhodes because that wasn't her WWE name and she created it after leaving. Clever loophole really. 3 1
just drew Posted January 4 Posted January 4 I’m also doing a 2019 watch thru and it’s pretty funny to me that the Jacksons booked themselves to go over P&P in a Texas street fight. I’ve come around on Kenny Omega, but yall will never convince me the bucks aren’t a couple of HBK cosplayers who want desperately to be the tough guys their upbringing wouldn’t allow them to be. Just lame as shit. They whine about getting beaten up in a pro wrestling match in their book and then book themselves (and they were still booking themselves at this point, don’t kid yourselves) to go over Santana and Ortiz in a street fight. There is no scenario in a real world situation where the Jackson’s last 30 seconds with guys like Mike Santana and Monkey Ortiz. Just some shameless, self aggrandizing shit. Fuck those homeschool dweebs. 1 1

For Swerve, his entire presentation is that he's a bit of a dick so getting on Ricochet who lost makes sense. 2 hours ago, NoFistsJustFlips said: He didn't own the name Cody Rhodes. Pretty sure he said in an interview he wanted the Rhodes last name eventually and didn't want to go with Roads or Runnels until he could get it. The little trick with announcing him and Brandi together is a bit of talking out of both sides, but that's kinda Cody's MO.

Swerve is a dick, but he's violent and psychopathic, not a clown. The toilet paper thing would make sense for like Max Caster or the Young Bucks. At least beat him up before covering him in toilet paper. I suspect it'll be a fairly small thing by the end of the angle, though. Ricochet will likely have toilet paper rolls stapled to him soon enough.
Curt McGirt Posted January 4 Posted January 4 My question is if this was a reaction to an organic response from the fans at Hammerstein, or did they plan the TP all along and plant it in the audience.
JLowe Posted January 4 Posted January 4 (edited) OC having his finisher no sold 3 times, pinned clean, beat down with save from refs and CD…thanks for carrying the company for a year, Orange, now back to the midcard with you. Sorry we’ve had all your friends abandon you. I liked the Mercedes video, not so much the in-ring stuff. I really liked the Mariah promo (but I am admittedly a huge fan). “Others have epics. I AM the epic” was a good line although it should’ve just been “I AM epic”. She needs some real challenges soon. Mox’s opening promo was full on Sephiroth. So over the Stop the Mox angle. MJF’s pretape was excellent, much prefer him that way. Hook, well, I just don’t care about him at all. Not a big fan of triple threats, many have mentioned the Ricochet attack was the most interesting thing. I think he should start calling himself Trevor, like he’s having a psychotic break. Swerve being saved by the worst faction in AEW was a fucking insult. Hurt Syndicate beating the shit out of Caster was glorious. I’m ready for Bowens solo, although people discussing him joining Hurt Syndicate could be interesting. He just has such natural babyface energy though. But he could learn some shit from Shelton. Hayter-Hart was fine, some hitches and of course the mist that wasn’t. I dunno, not sure why they’re sticking Hayter with weird nonsensical revenge angles ehenshe should be challenging for titles. Highlights of main event were Claudio absolutely creaming Cash out of nowhere with the uppercut during the tope, and Cope diving on Mox through the barricade, which was missed the first time. I will continue to rant about there needs to be a female counter for Marina, and soon. Sad to hear that the Max feed is like the YouTube on demand, where the PiP sections are not shown. Shit, just mute the feed and run a black box. Edited January 4 by JLowe 5

The toilet paper thing didn't bother me in the moment, but thinking about it some more, you're right. Swerve is supposed to be the most dangerous man in AEW. When he promises consequences if you fail to win something, those consequences usually involve blood or cinder blocks, not gently wafting toilet paper. Though I suppose there's an argument to be made that Swerve had much less reason to be angry at O'Shea than he did any of the people he'd brutalized previously. Maybe he just has an unusually well developed sense of proportionate response for a psychopath? 2 hours ago, Go2Sleep said: I suspect it'll be a fairly small thing by the end of the angle, though. It didn't necessarily feel right for Swerve's character, but I don't think it's going to derail the story or anything. 1 hour ago, JLowe said: OC having his finisher no sold 3 times, pinned clean, beat down with save from refs and CD…thanks for carrying the company for a year, Orange, now back to the midcard with you. Maybe. But I'd wager a small sum that Orange Cassidy will be beating Hangman at a PPV not far down the line. I doubt he's going back to the midcard.

You see you are looking at this sideways: this is clearly a Nana deal that Swerve went along with. Prince Nana dealt with Jimmy Rave having TP tossed at him for ages and would know how much it (kayfabe) drove him mad, so he gets to pay a bit of tribute to his fallen friend while also really ticking off Ricochet. 6
caley Posted January 5 Posted January 5 (edited) Wrestling weirdness! USA Network acquires the rights to Smackdown over 5 years, USA hasn't really been available in Canada, until this week. In Canada, AEW runs on TSN (Kinda like a Canadian ESPN) but only airs Dynamite (Only showing Collision or the other show whose name I forget when they're in Canada, btu available online if you subscribe to TSN's online deal) while Sportsnet has the rights to WWE. So, WWE goes to Netflix and Sportsnet replaces it with TNA. And tonight, out of nowhere, AEW Collision airs on...USA!? So, Smackdown airs on USA Network in the States, but in Canada the USA Network airs WWE's rival?! Edited January 5 by caley 1

Even better, the channel that shows Cheers reruns (Yet seems to be trapped in an endless loop of 'Wings' reruns as of late, of all shows!), is CMT. Yes, that did once upon a time stand for Country Music Television but now just shows no-longer-current sitcoms: Cheers, Wings, The Office, Schitt's Creek, that little-seen post-Community Joel McHale show where he worked with millenials. No country music, no country-themed programming, still called 'CMT' with the same logo it had when it showed country music videos all day.
