AEW TV - 4/24 - 4/30/2024 - Who's House? Gunn's House!

Recommended Posts

AEW normally kills it on the post PPV show and I am very much a "Wait and See" person but man, I did not care for anything on this show. Swerve felt like an afterthought, Jericho is getting a new heel group, the end angle which everyone saw coming and looked like shit and how can you be scared for your life from a guy yelling at you but nothing will happen to the people that assaulted you and I need to stop thinking about this because I'm getting mad.

I'm not saying they can't bounce back and change my mind but oof, this was a rough one.

I thought the gauntlet match was really fun once it got going (aka when Ospreay entered). Him vs. pretty much anybody seems compelling right now, and you can tell everybody was excited to have their moment against him.

To me the heel authority figure hasn't worked in over 20 years, I have zero interest in that.

Lucha Underground was only a decade ago and I thought Dario Cueto worked well.

I agree with the general sentiment, though.

Mercedes and Willow are going to put on a very good match, I feel.  They were starting to cook in the NJPW match before the injury.  Their segment tonight was ok.  It's the most inspired Mercedes has been on the microphone to date, probably because she loves being a heel.  Willow is too nice to hate. They have to be doing a turn with Mercedes.

Ok, who's the asshole that thought it'd be funny to wish for more AEW storylines of the fucking Monkey's Paw?

I especially enjoyed the interaction between Ospreay and Jay White.

Well that was a fun end to the show. I thought the show was all right up until the ending. But I really hope Tony is away for a while. I saw on Twitter someone say he needs to wear a neck brace while filming that NFL Draft thing on the Jags.

I like the dissention in the ranks of the Callis family. Kyle Fletcher and Osprey don't want to be underhanded. Don cracked me up when he said "I don't care if he's had five broken necks".

Did Hobbs get hurt for real at the end of the match though? It seemed like that was rushed and the ensuing segment with Perry and Khan had to eat up more time then originally planned.

Yeah, clearly blew his knee out when he went for the missed corner splash. Looked like it took all he had in him to get back in the ring so they could get to a finish.

I saw the Tony Khan segment online and it felt like a WWE segment where the announcers don't talk at all. So I guess...mission accomplished? At worst it felt like a 2000s WCW segment or a TNA segment or that time on UWF where Herb Abrams got attacked. I probably shouldn't crap on it more than that tbh.

Rather than say anything about the Young Bucks or Jack Perry, it'll be interesting to see what happens next.

The final angle was at least interesting.

Heels With Authority angles are definitely played. But The Young Bucks have been hitting it out of the park with their EVP act. Okada looks like a million bucks as their ringer. I’m willing to run with that since they’ve been so great.

But man, there was just so much bad blocking and set-up in the final segment.

First, why is Jack Perry asking Tony Khan to come out to reinstate him? It felt like TK should be the one out first as the authority figure determining the fate of Jack Perry in his hands. TK looked like such a total goof during the segment, just smiling wide and accepting this without hesitation. It just made me ask why some villainous heels haven’t attacked TK already since he was ripe for the picking. Or why any of the babyfaces would feel so loyal as to run to his side when he was just such an obvious patsy?

But the main part was so much of the staging was amateur hour — Jack Perry deciding to talk to the in-ring camera for no real reason a few times beyond Jack probably thinking it’s a cool thing to do as opposed to responding authentically to your scene partner. That’s just amateur hour stuff.

But I don’t hate it as much as I traditionally would hate a shoot-y style angle like this.

Oh god no what did I miss.

Do we take away Tony's Adderall for good? Does his pop send him back here to work at Flex-N-Gate?

Back to getting the pool installed at Craven Cottage

I loved all the chaos in the epic ending. Shit has hit the fan when big Shahid shows up!

Mina/Anna ruled again. Thrilled to get Mina back so quick. Love Serena getting in the mix. Serena vs Toni and then Toni vs Mina works for me.

thought the Willow/Mone segment was very good, nice mic work from Willow.

the Casino Gauntlet was a blast.  Dug the Learning Tree segment but I will miss Judas as Jericho moves on to "Spotlight" as his new Fozzy theme.

Moxley/Hobbs was solid while it lasted to the abrupt finish. Fun show overall with the closing angle putting it over the top.
