I have finally starting to warm to Ghost of Tsushima. It took meeting a couple of the supporting characters to get me invested.

I see someone finally met Lady Masako.

Oh, "Hades II".  Those wonderful bastards have me hooked all over again and I'm liking how the new stuff mixes very well with familiar territory.  I got it yesterday and barely scraped by to the second realm.  But it just feels so damn good.  Also, unless you don't like cats I can't recommend enough "Little Kitty, Big City"  It is incredibly, incredibly adorable and in my case is a nice chill game to do after dying so many times in "Hades II".

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is criminally underrated. Is it a GOTY or whatever? Nah. But it’s fun. I love most Dontnod games I’ve played, especially Life is Strange (Vampyr can go fuck itself), but this seems like a pretty big leap forward for them. Combat is kind of a dumbed down Soulslike-like, with an interesting character switch mechanic in and out of combat, and a (so far) decent story. And apparently choices matter, and I love games like that.

As it is right now, I’m getting more use out of my Series X than anything else. Just on that system I’m currently playing Final Fantasy XIII, Banishers, Prey, Fallout 4, Jedi Survivor - and Diablo 4 and Starfield both get major updates this week.

I'm annoyed that Hades II came out in EA again. Here I go, dodging storyline spoilers (or whatever storyline spoilers there are so far) and character reveals until they actually release the dang thing.

Little Kitty, Big City has an interesting concept - make your way back up a high-rise, but the reviews I saw emphasized that it's pretty breezy. I think I wanted something a bit more challenging, like Stray, but without Stray's completely awful stealth garbage toward the end.

I don't go elsewhere for gaming news and honestly stay on the board.  So unless somebody spoils it I feel good not risking that happen to me.  I will say once I got the third weapon it was a game-changer (pun not intended) and I went on to the third realm.  Who knows, maybe by tomorrow I'll get to the next area but that is also due to me playing during the day when I should be working.

As for Kitty it's a breezy game and more like a puzzle game of sorts.  I agree on the last part of Stray and while the story was interesting enough I enjoy this one more.

The new Fall Guys update is a pile of shite. Too many crappy user-made "Impossible Level LOL" levels. The whole point of it is it's an easy, casual game. Now it's an annoying, infuriating one. STUPID.

Animal Well is NOT on the level of a Tunic, Witness, Hollow Night, Outer Wilds, Celeste, Cave Story, etc. but it is a very good genre game to "beat" in a weekend or "complete" in a week, and the depth and aesthetic are absolutely there in spades.

New Pinball FX4 tables:

Knight Rider and Pacific Rim were the ones that felt great immediately.

Xena might be ok. Has that crappy quiet zen table ambiance after the kickass POWER PASSION DANGER intro.

Knight Rider looks and sounds and plays awesome. It's a secret time traveling Steve Ritchie Mandela effect table. This is in the vein of their System Shock table where it's quasi-retro.

Pacific Rim feels good.  Similar to the oldass Zen Earth Defense table.  I've liked all the Legendary tables.

BSG table is a bit shit.  Not as bad as that Homeworld table but it ain't making me want to investigate.  I'm in the wait for first sale in 2 months camp on FX4.  I've got 90 percent of the tables and will only bite on those Snoopy and Garfield tier tables when I see $1.99.  Might get pacific rim tho.  Three day weekends a'comin'.

I wish they'd bring the AVP and Doom tables to the new engine.  I have no idea how fucky the Bethesda situation is now.  The AVP and Aliens tables are awesome.  Aliens might be their best theme utilization.  The Chucky table is absolutely great but whatever weird licensing restrictions they were working under hurts the coherence of the table.  It's like they just had a little bit of 2, 3 and Seed of Chucky.

Anyone ever play Frostpunk? Looks like an interesting strategy game.

It's extremely good and unusually for a city builder there's a lot of tension as opposed to a freeform, but it's absolutely one of the grimmest things I've ever played. I don't think it's a big spoiler to say one of the first major decisions you'll face is whether to allow child labour to raise the chances of survival or not, and that tells you something about the tone. But in terms of game mechanics, it's very solid.

It's got an amazing soundtrack, in addition to DFA's comments about the gameplay. But it is grim as it gets at times.

Going through Steam for casual free to play stuff, and tried out Marvel Puzzle Quest. I'm definitely going to have to be careful playing it - not because of the gatcha money, but like I said to myself, "I'll just try a couple things" and then 2 1/2 hours had passed. 😛

Dammit, Rippa, I'm trying not to spend money on games right now.

If you have Gamepass you won't need to as it's on there.  But even if you don't it's worth playing whenever you can.  My wife is playing tons more than me and is amazed she gets anything done since she just wants to find the hats and have them do cat things.

I managed to get to the third area in Hades II and just when I think I got things under control I get taken out in the first or second stage.  It's amazing how no matter times I die as long as I'm collecting stuff to build better things I just have to keep going.  So if I do it right maybe by next week or the week after I'll get close enough to completing a run.  At least I hope.

I have a streak of over 3770 days playing MPQ (yes, more than 10 years)  so if you want tips, let me know.

I had no idea Street Fighter EX existed. How many "Street Fighter" games were there between Street Fighter 2 and Street Fighter 3?

Here's the list of EX games. Later Fighting Layer.

The live action movie got a Mortal Kombat like game for arcades, with digitized actor sprities. The PS1 and Saturn games are more like SSF2T, because Capcom reused the SSF2T engine. So not really ports either.

I remember that game! Boy was that shit.

Unrelated, but man, fighting games have passed me by.  I remember buying two of the six button Genesis pads to play Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers in the mid-90s.  It was all so fun and simple.  Nows it’s all combos, parries, other techniques I don’t understand, hitboxes, meta, etc.

I had Street Fighter EX on the PS1.  I remember liking it a lot.
