Stepmania, thee major dancing game clone for PC (DDR, PIU, ITG, etc). It's been around for maybe 20 years and has always had a pretty big community around it. I used to play a ton of DDR in high school and I've reached an age where I needed to buy exercise equipment that I'd actually use. So I downloaded every offical DDR song ever released (rather easily) and the pad itself works like a dream. Playing proper with shoes and it hasn't dropped a note, although my schlubby ass hasn't done anything harder than a old-8 new-11 footer.

Oh, man we would go nuts with Stepmania.  When I was still at my mom's I remember getting a $300 thin metal pad from an import store at While Marsh.  We had tons of fun playing Stepmania to our heart's content until the down arrow cracked.  I still have it there but haven't tried to do anything about the crack.  Even if I got it fixed I'm not sure if my heavier self would feel comfortable going on the pad but it would be nice to at least get it working again.  That plus we don't have a laptop to put it on so the upstairs office connected to desktop wouldn't be ideal for such a thing.

As for the songs my wife has damn near everything she could get her hands on in that timeframe which we managed to port over to our newer computer.  Everything works like a charm though we'd rather use a pad for the songs than our fingers.

EDIT: My wife was wondering if it was the Cobalt Flux because she has always wanted one of those.

Sticker Star was not good, but I liked it more than The Origami King.

I think I'm just not interested in Paper Mario games that aren't RPGs. Maybe I would be willing to play Super Paper Mario to see how I like it again again, even though it's more of a platformer with light RPG elements, but after that, Paper Mario might as well not exist for me.

I wish I had played more of the Wii one to have an opinion of it.

After years of weird free updates, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night gets its first paid expansion since just after launch in "Classic Mode II: Dominique's Curse," which is to Simon's Quest what the original Classic Mode was to the original Castlevania. They've earned enough goodwill from me over the years to make this an easy $10 pickup, looking forward to checking it out after NXT

So yeah I haven't really played a Street Fighter game since the ancient times of Alpha 2 (Gen mains rise up), but 6 still feels good and a thing I can jump in and have fun. It's honestly the opposite of what Mortal Kombat have done where if you're not a lab monkey you're nothing. Not to say labbing in SF6 won't take you a long way but there's still a space in this game for people that just want to fire up matches and play intuitively/learn by doing. Feels like a mix of classic and new in a good way.

Game is also stupid horny which I'm not complaining about. It also has a lot of weird menu shit to navigate because it's not a modern CAPCOM game without absolutely cursed UI. I don't have any of the overpriced DLC and unless you are super attached to one of those fighters I don't think you need to worry about it at all.

I forgot to mention it but after I had 100% Little Kitty, Big City I played Chants of Sennaar via Gamepass

I liked it a bit as it is mostly a fun puzzler (there are some forced stealth sections which was irritating)

The other thing that disappointed me is that if you want to 100% it you probably have to play it twice since there are a bunch if missable achievements which you don't realize until after your first playthrough

Mini Motorways got a new update last week, and I don't think I realized that they had an update before that because they added a handful of new cities since the last time I dipped into it - London, Mumbai, NYC, Reykjavik, Vancouver (BC), and one other city that I forgot.

I have a relationship with this game that goes in a consistent cycle:

  1. I get way into it
  2. I top out at 1,500~ successful trips before I experience a traffic overload that ends my run on every new map
  3. I get frustrated with the random placement of residential and commercial areas
  4. I try to control it by laying down strips of road to attempt to herd the placements into reasonable locations
  5. I hate that strategy and find it to be limiting and not a lot of fun, so I put the game down for a few months
  6. I see a new update and fire it up again
  7. I go back to step one

Let's see how long I spend with this game this time around!

I have ended up not having a chance to get very far, but what I've seen is cool. The soundtrack is entirely new and faux-chiptune; it's a little more complex than SQ in a few ways, I ran out of lives in the first Dungeon (Mansion in SQ) and haven't picked it up again but plan to tomorrow. The day/night (New Moon/Dead Moon) cycle is significantly slower, which is good for the New and obnoxious for the Dead. I made it to the second village just as the first Dead Moon started and it fuckin' sucked, though I did survive (barely)

Finished Phantasy Star I and boy I used up a whole lot of graphing paper getting through the dungeons. I swear outside of a couple parts that felt a little obtuse when it came to figuring them out, I honestly think getting lost might be the hardest part of the game.

Anyone know a good Switch Pro controller set up for Perfect Dark and Turok? I never gave a shit about Goldeneye but these two I'm interested in revisiting.

I tried to use the pro controller for the N64 games but just bit the bullet and bought one of the N64 controllers they sell for the Switch instead. It was worth saving myself the headache of trying to figure out how I set things up.

I have one of the transparent purple ones still.

The sticks in all of mine are immaculate since I mostly used the 64 to play the AKI games.

I played the trial period for Balatro and didn't even get halfway through my hour before buying the game. Oh no, I think I have a new obsession.

I finished the main story for Ghost of Tsushima. While completely understandable, I didn’t like the ending and would have preferred what you’re prob call the other likely ending. Now on the DLC.

While I have Ps Plus, I also downloaded Dave the Diver to try it out.

I finally got around to starting Disco Elysium, since I've been consuming enough DnD-based things that I figured I should go with a different dice-roll video game.  I'm realizing now that this game is the absolute pinnacle of the video game genre I've been looking for all my life:

A recycling simulator.
