  1. I had tears in my eyes for most of the main event. That match was a fitting tribute, and I can't imagine what deep emotions both Mark and Jay were feeling through it. The ending was perfect. Rest of the show was really entertaining. Superb in ring. I really love the chemistry that Hook and Jungle Boy have. Another week, another amazing Bryan Danielson match. That Thatcher match next week is going to be beautifully violent. Pumped for Page/Mox 3. Get well soon @DEAN

  2. Tony spending all kinds of political capital to do the Briscoes the right way. Main event was great for giving the fans, ROH and wrestling a great send off. Seriously the rest of the night was mostly an after thought. Danielson still carrying guys left and right.

  3. First off, get well to Dean. God, hospitalization sucks. That was a fine show. On the Discord we were wondering how they were gonna squeeze everything in but it ended up being perfectly timed. Opener was hot. Andretti is gonna be pretty popular. The dual red on JAS made Sammy look like Nakamura and Jericho look like Mutoh imitating Nakamura but having to wear the kneepads. Darby needs to learn some llave from Angelico or subs from Danielson so as to extend his career. Buddy was a powerhouse. Guns/Acclaimed was... quick enough. So was the Hook match because it's supposed to be. Danielson/Cage told a nice little story that had an awesome follow up (after a gratingly long MJF interview) in that TIMMY THATCHER is coming all the way from NOAH to dismember Bryan. That made it aaaaaaall worth it. The women's match was sadly again put in the cooler spot, BUT! They kept it hot, and stiff as fuck. Ruby had to have thought "I'm wrestling Toni so I better potato her the whole time", and she sure as shit did. Finish was a little eye-rolling but overall the match was great and maybe my fave on the card. Lots of solid angle advancement on this show while also being about 80% wrestling. Of course I started crying as soon as I saw Lethal's face. Then Mark comes out as if nothing had happened and he was his same crazy-ass self. I think he threw in some extra "hi-ya"s because of silent spots and because it was getting big reactions. The table spot was NUTS. Then everyone in the back came out. It was very, very classy and I think way way WAY better than a ten-bell salute under the circumstances. Their video package was also incredibly sweet, too. And much love to Riccabone/Caprice! AEW, stay classy my friends.

  6. Why would we want to make Irsay sell the team? He's awesome. Give me more crackpot owners, less tech bros and faceless VCs. Load Jim up with pills, crank some Skynyrd, and let the man cook

  11. Fun story. My first baseball game ever was David Wells' first major league win. Jays vs Angels. Dave Stieb vs Jerry Reuss. Years later during his second stint with the Jays we got to talk about it over a beer. He was super cool with me.

  12. Solid show tonight. I particularly enjoyed Darby/Matthews, Toni/Ruby, and of course, the main event. I can't imagine what Lethal and Mark Briscoe were going through. They put on a hell of a match. I loved Tony and the ROH alumni coming out after the match. The whole thing had me teary eyed.

  14. You have to give a ton of credit to Jay Lethal in the match. It looked like he was going to break down before he entered the ring. And still put on a really good match and thank god we got Ian Riccaboni on commentary. Because we didn't get "wrestling commentator" we got psychologist, friend, and when need be wrestling commentator Ian. Not knocking Caprice he was great too

  15. Clearly someone or something last week prevented the kind of Jay tributes we're seeing right now, and it wasn't Tony. He flew people in specifically for a tribute show that didn't even air.

I've been one for 20 years, the fact that someoe ca judge someone from a statement 10 years ago is disgusting. I'm so happy Mark is going to be on AEW tomorrow night, but i also hate it that it wasntwith his brother.

  19. It sucks too not just only because Jay's now passed, but because (and obviously we've all covered it, and in all actuality, it's probably getting uncool to touch on any further at this point) the whole shift in belief with regard to the original thing - we're country boys who thought we were taking a stand for God, but we were wrong because God loves everyone, and now we do too- I mean, as far as apologies go (and I said this when he was alive too, so my opinion's not in any way changed or colored by his death) that's pretty fucking hard to trump in my book. I listen to this psychology podcast, and there was a recent episode about all the components an apology should have, and this one pretty much hit em all: explanation, remorse, promise to avoid, change in behavior. So that's kind of the shit of it in my book, is that rather than run from some dumb, imagined potential PR nightmare that probably would've never materialized, they should've looked at it like an opportunity to show what real, meaningful change could look like. I mean, fuck 'Be A Star,' imagine if they did one of those PSAs like Eddie Kingston and Hobbs did for mental health awareness, or some of the others they've done for Pride month and Black history month? Legit missed opportunity.

  24. I think a lie about the company your negotiating a tv deal with blocking a tribute show so they look like the villains is a pretty dumb move to make. Maybe a lie to block the initial hiring or using them as a one time surprise, but not a lie about blocking a tribute show being on tv. Having the tv network be the scapegoated villains could be safely done backstage and/or maybe even maintain med within the wrestling bubble, but risks of the passing and health conditions of children being a human interest piece that captivates more hearts and gets outside of the bubble only for WBD to eventually deny the reports is Tony playing with fire. I’m not even saying your wrong. Tony could be ballsy enough to be lying, but I don’t believe he is. Side note: As I’m typing this, it’s pretty ballsy to out that there even was an executive(s) in the first place! I don’t know anything. Maybe Gregg is right. Maybe this whole thing has been a lie from the beginning. The Jacksonville Jaguars money. Follow the money. Is Tony Khan even actually related to his dad? Tony has been posing as Shad’s son since the beginning to get the money to open up his own wrestling company. But follow the money. Is AEW making money? The books are closed. I assume not, especially with the contracts they’re giving out and the companies they’re buying. Nick Wayne isn’t even an adult yet. Child labor. Follow the money. Does Tony (if that is his real name) want AEW to be profitable? Maybe just look flashy and cool to con it on some suckers. Pull a fast one like a hot Chevy on the corner with a For Sale sign that when you open up the hood after you buy it the engines held together by old paste and rubber bands. Snake oil salesman. Follow the money. Who would be in the market for a wrestling company that looks hip now wow and money isn’t an issue? Follow the money. The true Saudi Government handshake deal with Vince to buy the WWE fell through after some pesky twitter accounts foiled their plans. They’re looking for the next best thing. If you can’t get Sami and Kevin, who are the next best Canadians? Kenny and Chris! Follow the money. Winnipeg could be Quebec with a little love, glitter, and long bread. Tony wants to sell AEW to the Saudi Government. Twitter will be too invested in being mad at this imaginary WBD executive. By the time the deal goes through, people will be ecstatic that they don’t have to witness Ruby bleed again. Follow the money. - Sean Ross Alvarez

  25. I'm curious as to what will happen with the ROH tag team championship. Will Mark get to pick a new partner and continue to defend the titles? Personally, I'd like to see Mark vacate the tag titles and go after the ROH world title. Then, have new tag champions crowned in the first ever Jay Briscoe Memorial tag team tournament.

  26. Get well soon, chief. I cried my eyes out during that main event. The video tribute earlier broke me, and when Lethal walked out already crying I just lost it. Then Ian had me ugly crying with his beautiful lines. And the match was great. It was wonderful.

  31. I legit think it's WBD. If you don't want the backlash, you can just release them. Simple as that. They're still under your employ, and people are naturally going to be curious as to why everyone, their cousin, mom, and kinfolk from ROH are on AEW TV but not the Briscoes.

  32. YouTube clip? You musta missed some stuff. The controversy popped off when Jay made the "I will kill anyone that tells my kid it's OK to get gay married" tweet. There was also Jay's slur-based reaction to having to witness gay people exist in New York City. Then people dug up similar stuff on Mark's Facebook (violent, possibly racist anti-Obama rhetoric, homophobic and transphobic slurs used in posts decrying the US's foreign aid preferences going to countries that don't persecute gay people). Then there was an incident where the Briscoes ripped a Pride flag out of somebody's hands at a show and choked somebody out in the ring with it (this was after the big Jay tweet). Then as the more casual side of the wrestling fandom picked up on it, people shared more and more pictures of the Briscoes being decked out in Confederate gear long after said gimmick had stopped being in fashion. Jay was actually rocking a Stars 'n Bars custom ROH World Championship belt as recently as 2016. So no, it wasn't really as simple as a single dumb tweet by Jay that was apologized for. FWIW I think the accounts of such a significant amount of their peers + the sincerity of Jay's public apologies should have been enough to get them on TV, especially seeing how low the bar has been for other wrestling companies and WBD. And CERTAINLY Mark should have had a no-questions-asked right to be on TV right after Jay's passing vs. having to wait it out a week for the letter writing campaign to kick in. But I've been seeing a lot of discussion online reducing the Briscoe's controversy to the one tweet and no, that's not the whole story.

  33. Put Shafir in a tag team with Serena Deeb. They can be the Shooters or something of that effect. Marina definitely brings something to the table, and I think (especially if they ever pull the trigger on womens tag titles) that Shafir/Deeb would be a good teacher/mentor storyline with legs to go for a long while.

  36. Why would Jeff Saturday do that? No one else is going to give him a head coaching job, so if he wants to coach, this is probably the best chance he's going to get. I guess he might care about random dudes on the internet making fun of him, but he probably doesn't. I encourage everyone to take any job that is willing to overpay you to do some shit you probably aren't qualified to do. That's the motherfucking American Dream, shout out to Dusty.

  37. Loving Waltman's sarcastic dig at what had become the pattern for these legends reunion shows over the years. It was awesome finally seeing some legends return to Raw and not having it end with someone being buried. Even the Undertaker merely fed LA Knight to Bray Wyatt for the final blow. The way these segments ended up playing out actually made me think that "huh, maybe Hunter still has final creative say after all". But on the other hand, no sign of Gargano, Candice, Lumis, or Bronson on the big 30th anniversary edition of Raw, so?

  38. They could have run that Bloodline segment for the entire 3 hours and I would not mind. The whole thing was absolutely magnificent and one of the most enjoyable segments and matches and set-ups in memory. The whole “Tribal Court” itself was so fun. It is just great wrestling camp stupidity. Roman taking the whole thing with the utmost seriousness in his mob boss character made the whole thing work. It does not work as a goof. It works as a goofy thing taken seriously. Then it got even better with the whole Law and Order type of stuff with Heyman - the ultimate sleaze - going over his conspiracy theory with Sami, who is of course the conspiracy theorist. And as I was watching, I was completely convinced they put in all of these red herrings throughout. And I thought for sure it was going to be execution time for Sami after he provided no defense and Solo was about to spike him. They got me! I literally gasped when Jey made the save. Jey has been great for years but he has really become an all-timer since The Bloodline arc began. It takes someone really good to do the initial stuff with Roman and get beaten into submission but still be able to have credibility. He went from being incredibly sympathetic to becoming a great henchman. He and Jimmy just have bangers with absolutely everyone (I really think the New Day’s Last Stand match was one of the best matches of the century when you consider the rivalry and organic stakes). And Jey really hit an iconic level with the Doubting Thomas story with Sami where we saw his motivation - part legitimate skepticism, bigger parts jealousy - without having it told to us. Wrestling is not a “Show But Tell” type of narrative but Jey nailed it that entire time and I am not sure anyone else could do it. I popped so hard when he made the save for Sami with his own footage. It left us with an awesome cliffhanger. But then it got even better with that fantastic tag match. I thought Judgment Day would have petered out months ago. Instead, they have been maybe the second best part of the show for months. What a fun stable. They do a great job of being a collective of awful people but they come off like they actually like each other and are friends. And while they definitely roll their eyes at Dom, it seems like they actually like him as well and enjoy him as a little brother who they can pick on but nobody else can. So many awesome things can be said about Dom. One of the things I really love about Ruby Riott and Britt Baker is that they have limitations athletically but lean into the character aspects fantastically well to make them upper tier wrestlers. Dom was set up to fail as a green chubby kid without a lot of athleticism against his dad, one of the most athletic wrestlers ever and arguably the greatest babyface in history. Dom has really arrived by doing the same things as Ruby and Britt — making his limitations his strength, playing off of the relationships of his alliance, and leaning into the material he is given and “making it work” as Regal said all the time on his podcast. Damian Priest is also fantastic. He has been such a great glue guy for Judgment Day — really good muscle who juxtaposes well with Finn’s flashy leadership and a good promo. Unsung worker of the year. As soon as Jimmy went down, and it was clear Sami was going to replace him, my investment in what was already a very good match just went up. I really had no idea what they were going to do — is Sami was going to cost them the match accidentally or intentionally with Dom getting the win. I know what the end game is going to be but they made me think otherwise. That was an absolutely spectacular block of professional wrestling: Sublime, ridiculous, emotional that incorporated one hell of a match and still gives us the cliffhanger for Saturday. A+.

  47. i feel like fans get too upset about timeline specifics. don't get me wrong, when they tried to compress everything into 5 years during New52, that was dumb. But overall, some of these characters have been published for over 80 years. it's never going to fit as long as the characters don't age in semi-real time. And since THAT's not going to happen, you just have to accept it for what it is.
