  2. Also, that's enough of the politics talk. Let's talk about literally anything else.

  5. I love this stupid match. Outside of the opening sequence where Shane somehow outwrestles an Olympic gold medalist (about which: Jesus fucking Christ, Shane) it's all bloody and violent and dumb spectacle.

  6. Hangman fighting for and winning the belt via the power of friendship would be the most anti-WWE thing, and thus the best thing, ever.

  7. Haven’t seen this posted. Looks like as restrictions are listed we’ll start seeing more excursions again.

  9. Hangman shying away from any talk of Kenny, the Bucks, the Elite, or the AEW World Title is the 2020s version of Sting vs the nWo. I say that half-jokingly, but for me it works. At some point, I want a match that Hangman wins and then Tony goes to interview Hangman in the ring and again Hangman shies away from answering the question about challenging Kenny. This time though, the Dark Order, or specifically, Uno comes out and slaps Hangman and proceeds to cut a killer promo about how Hangman is special, how he's watched Hangman be afraid of that belt and challenging Kenny for months, how there's no reason for Hangman to be afraid and how he can beat Kenny, and how the Dark Order wouldn't believe in Hangman if they didn't think he couldn't win it all. Let Hangman then duck questions about a response to Uno for a couple weeks and finally he goes off and cuts the Rocky 3 "I AM AFRAID!" promo. It makes him sick to think that he and Kenny and the Bucks were his friends and because of his actions and because he let others get in his head, he doesn't have any of that anymore and he doesn't want to lose the Dark Order as friends either. He's afraid to face Kenny because he lost to him once and facing him means facing letting down his fans again. Uno then does the rest of Adrian's speech. Then do a month long sprint of Hangman pumping himself up, throwing back beers after wins, and let him cut a killer promo that he wants Kenny and he's coming for his belt.

  10. The Slaughter ringpost bump wins for me because the crazy bastard did it in the last match I ever saw him work, in his late 50s.

  13. I’m not about getting into internet arguments and I’m not trying to be a dick but your original post was full of what are basically ‘contrarian’ cliches at this point. You did a variation on the ‘what next? Kids are gonna be identifying as *inanimate object*’ joke that has been going around for about a decade. Maybe a dissenting opinion isn't because they’re a homogeneous member of ‘the left’ but because, you know, the joke wasn’t very funny.

  14. Their seamstress is Sandra Gray, who got her start doing gear for Johnny B. Badd back in the day before transitioning into doing work for more WCW wrestlers and, eventually, working for WWE as well. If you're interested in AEW's podcast, they had her on for a pretty fun and interesting interview a few weeks ago. It's a weird take that Bear Country, of all roster members, have unprofessional-looking gear. They have pretty decent-looking singlets and actual wrestling boots. It's not like they're in T shirts, trashbag pants, and kickpads. I'm pretty critical of people's gear (Brock Anderson's tights were horrible) but I have no problem with theirs.

  17. Holy shit yes. Really, any Flair back bump. See the press slams he'd take from guys like Luger, for example. I guess it was because he'd broken his back early in his career, but he never took a flat-back bump. He'd always roll and kind of take it on one shoulder, then across one side of his back in a really weird way. Ted DiBiase took a perfect "grab the ropes with both arms straight out and flip completely backwards out of the ring" bump. He'd always sell like he hit his face on the apron. *chef's kiss*

  19. My number one Flair bump is the funky way he’d take backdrops, which is occupying similar space as his bump off the top.

  23. I always thought that Hart laying on the floor waiting to be counted out with the broken sternum/ribs while the crowd boos him, only for Bravo to come over and Hart think "Oh good, he's coming to help me" before he proceeds to put the boots to him further while he's legitimately injured to be one of the darker but funnier moments I've read in a wrestling book. It's something that could only really happen in pro wrestling.

  25. Knowing the DVDVR constituency the Jerry Bump would probably make a strong showing The Hamrick through-the-ropes bump and the Psicosis bump would be up there, too.

  30. People should really check out the NEVER 6 man, a lot of fun, EVIL finally looked like he had some spark back and Togo still has the goods! Really looking forward to the Chaos vs 3rd Gen match (and the Ishii v Nagata and Goto v Kojima set up matches on the first) as well as what looked like the seeds to a Ishii v EVIL match down the line. The young lion vs vet matches from the last two shows were great too. Definitely recommend Ibushi v Uemura, Taichi v Uemura and Zack v Tsuji.

  32. Bahu posted a translation of Jun Kasai's book. It's a rough translation but it's all pretty comprehensible and very interesting http://fmwwrestling.us/Kasai1.html Read it in like an hour, easy read despite the choppy language, some of my favorite little bits -Seeing Cannibal Holocaust in theaters as a young kid with his mom -First impression of Ryuji Ito "A serious bean sprout wearing glasses" -The only two guys he's seen to have an "alien" like deathwish like him - Masashi Takeda and Toshiyuki Sakuda -Not really knowing anything going into the Un F'n Believable match, after the match he's getting cleaned up and some girl is dancing around topless. Then Justice Pain drives him home and gives him painkillers and he has to pull over to puke -I thought he had stopped the balcony dives due to injuries, but apparently Shin-kiba and Korakuen Hall banned them. Says Shin-kiba is a crazier dive than Korakuen. -I honestly have zero recollection of his scaffold match with Miyamoto, and he apparently loved it and doesn't like that it's not well remembered either. -Kayfabe is mostly kept here, so I can't fully tell, but it almost sounds like he went into business for himself to call out Ito and get the match booked that he had been trying for 7 years. Pretty insane. Big Japan seemingly hates making money and pushing stars. BJW in general comes off bad here, and as he conveys there's a lot of wrestlers there who are held back from wrestling the deathmatches they want. He saw how Sakuda was being discouraged from going all out and managed to influence him to become a freelancer. You can tell guys like Sakuda love doing cutting edge crazy matches like they can in Freedoms and GCW. BJW is almost like CZW now. -Sounds like he didn't make a reliable living till maybe after the Ito match, which is crazy when you see how over he was in the years leading up to that. Has to work a lot of part time jobs when he's injured, and has opted out of many knee surgeries. -Memory is getting worse, doesn't feel comfortable doing more acting work since he can't remember lines well. -Doesn't remember anything after getting powerbombed through the ring in his finals match against Masada (2015?), the only time he can think of he lost significant memory -Toru Sugiura panic quit deathmatches around 2013, got back into them in 2018 and is now one of the best in the world at them

  36. They are enjoyably cheesy. Both movies are almost like time capsules. The perfect representation of what you'd expect your guilty favorite Blockbuster Video 1990's Direct-To-VHS movie would be. Now that everyone has a studio and audiences expect high production values for everything under the sun, the art of making mindless and fun low budget entertainment is dying.

  38. Flair could probably fill up a few spaces himself, I’d have the flop up there, plus he’s got the throw off the top. Rikishi’s inside out clothesline bump is a good one, that felt like a pretty crazy bump for a guy of his size.

  41. I honestly think that Beefcake somehow became underrated despite the fact that he's never been that good. He was totally an effective babyface working Honkytonk and Mr. Perfect before his face got destroyed. While he was never even a good worker, that certainly didn't stop a lot of people in the era from getting over. The hedge clippers were because you could see them from a distance and are effectively giant scissors. It's a more effective visual than coming out with shears. Also he could chase people around with them.
