HA! THEY WENT BOBBY BONILLA ON THE DAVIS CONTRACT!!!

2:44pm: Via ESPN’s Buster Olney (on Twitter), Davis will receive $17MM per season over the life of the contract. He will then receive $3.5MM a year from 2023 through 2032, then $1.4MM a year from 2033 through 2037. There will be no interest on that $42MM total in deferred money. The length of the deferrals in Davis’ contract is unusual, calling to mind the Mets’ 25 years in deferred payments to former star Bobby Bonilla. Obviously, though, their effect is that they reduce the present-day value of Davis’ contract, even though he will, in fact, receive a total of $161MM.

That's just...tremendous.

More players should do this. Keep that income flowing as long as possible...

Just for the hell of it, if he's healthy he should keep playing until 2032 even if it's in their minors somewhere, they have to keep paying him no matter what anyway. He'll be 46 by then, so he could theoretically be on their Double A team as DH for like 8 years.

Haggling over $500,000 with the reigning mvp seems like a bad pr idea for a team with a vocal portion of the fanbase accusing you of heing cheap.

Thats just always been the Jays, and other teams policy to put forth a number then go to arbitration if they dont match.  People are overselling this like its a death match with all kinds of hard feelings..  AA beat Donaldson in arbitration last year.  Donaldson will probably win this year no big deal.  What the Jays want probably is to work out a bridge deal with Donaldson until the end of his arbitration because if he keeps putting up the numbers he could soak them in arbitration.

So the Nationals have adopted the "if you can't beat them take their talent" strategy this off season.   They already have Daniel Murphy and they are getting closer and closer to acquiring Cespedes.  Or at least closer than the actual Mets

at this rate the Nationals will have 15 outfielders

well the Nats offered him a 5 year deal

But he prefers the Mets - and supposedly while the mets are offering him a 3 year deal, it will have an opt out after 1
