I have seen someone proposing that, if Ospreay loses to Swerve at FD, he will then take the Wild Card spot as an attempt at forcing himself into the Wembley main, but that feels like 1999 WWF "Must book the Rock into the main event of every PPV even if he clearly got eliminated from the Rumble" nonsense.

Alvarez suggested it on WOR post Dynamite

Not belting Ospreay in the main event at Wembley this year is booking malpractice.  Rocket ship this motherfucker.  This seems to be the best way to get there now

People have speculated Ricochet as the wildcard in the men's Owen tournament, but I'd rather see Trevor Lee pop up as a surprise debut.

Trevor Lee shaved his beard off and looks strikingly different to Cameron Grimes now. People might not realise it's the same guy.

What a magnificent cranium. The robots will have that one on display at their robot museums after the Fall of Man, for sure.

Everything he does makes me want to see him less and less. I liked him a ton as pale, undefined, grizzled Cameron Grimes/Trevor Lee. I somewhat accepted him getting into better "TV" shape. This though I can't abide. He just looks...weird. Weird and vanilla. Weirdly vanilla.

I don’t think it’s a given that Ospreay wins the world title at Wembley. For two reasons;

1. Swerve is still pretty over. Him vs. Danielson in front of hardcore wrestling fans would be good tv.

2. Ospreay being at Wembley IS the main event. Him vs. MJF in a true “dream match” would have just as much buzz…

See, that's why I think Pac makes sense to win the Owen... Pac vs Ospreay, an all UK main event @ Wembley?  You know that match would be a fucking banger.

And yet, if there is a plan to do something else with Ospreay (Like a match with Okada, or whatever), then Pac vs Swerve makes sense as the title match too.

Something that is irritating the shit out of me because at this point I can't stand stupid people: people knocking Jarrett being in the Owen Hart Tournament. This is beyond stupid not just because anyone with an IQ above that of a banana slug should know why he is in a tournament honoring Owen Hart, it's also stupid because it's the dumbest angle to take on a perfectly valid criticism (where are all the top guys?).

Reminds me more of Boogie Woogie.

I almost included him as well but he isn’t dead so Briscoe can’t be possessed by him. Although if anyone could, it would be the Boogie Woogie Man, daddio.

Despite both men starting out in the UK Backyard wrestling scene, despite both men working UK indies at the same time (until Pac got signed at least), despite it being Will Ospreay's personal dream match since he was 15... there has only ever been ONE Pac vs Will Ospreay singles match. It was in RevPro in February 2019, during Pac's "I'm a champion in Dragon Gate so I can't lose any matches" indie run. Went to a 30 minute time limit draw.

The only other times they've been in the same match were a United Empire vs Death Triangle six man two years ago, and the Casino Gauntlet last month.

Sure, throw in a Nyla Rose vs Statlander and PAC vs Claudio on top of the opener! That and the 8-man! The whole damned episode! That was awesome!

Oh, like I needed another reason to love the fuck out of AEW. Can't wait to see this.

The Private Party vs Komander and Metalik match was not good. Slow motion, lots of standing around.

Fenix-Turbo Floyd was pointless and not much fun.

Shingo match was solid, good way to “introduce” him before the PPV.

Andretti-Lio started out very indie then turned into a decent, athletic match.

Main was good, Willow’s power vs. Deeb’s grappling and veteran wiles.

Been a little quiet on here, but I was AMAZED by Rush/MJF. MOTY stuff. Those guys are storytellers. And you know who else?

...Dante Martin. Yep. And I never had that opinion before.

Overall it was a killer Dynamite overall, even the WAR multiman. Now I gotta rewatch Rampage.

That Jeff Jarrett promo was basically AEW telling people that thinks he didn't belong in Owen Cup to fuck off and was beautiful.  Now it makes me hope this Wild Card isn't someone that needs to win

Dang! I did NOT have "I would be OK with Double J winning the Owen now" on my AEW BINGO card!

O how I wish Nigel would just shut the fuck up once in a while. Him ragging on Tony S is the polar opposite of entertaining.

I really enjoyed Okada vs U.G. Those delightful "only in AEW matches" keep me coming back for more.

Hope Daddy Magic isn't badly injured. More rough- and sloppy-looking moments on the show in general than is usual, today.

The latest ratings numbers for Dynamite, per WON, look absolutely f'n BRUTAL.

I am sure EVERYBODY thinks that all AEW has to do to turn it around is cater to their own specific tastes.

So, allow me:

Ratings were highest when AEW was a big, goofy indie!

IN ALL SINCERITY: I honestly believe AEW is hurting themselves badly by becoming more polished professional and corporate. They were WAY better off when positioning themselves as a scruffy underdog and differentiating themselves as much as possible from the E and creating a community feel for the fans. Like a big indie. They moved away from that in order to grow and it has COMPLETELY backfired.

They were WAY better off when they respected their fans' intelligence. Go back to that.QUIT TRYING TO APPEASE THE PRO WRESTLING GRANDPAS AND CORNETTE FANS WHO WILL *NEVER* ACCEPT YOU ANYWAY!

Reduce your f'n ticket prices and fix your f'n video game! Every fan you fuck over is a fan you genuinely risk losing.

giphy.gif

Be a craft brewery instead of a 2nd rate corporate brewery. Be Five Guys instead of Burger King. Be purely Lollapalooza instead of adding little pinches of Monsters of Rock to try and "broaden the appeal"

You are SO GOOD at catering to the hardcore fanbase. DO THAT! Quit sucking up to the people who don't get you. BE TRUE TO YOURSELF!

And. MOST IMPORTANTLY! FUCK OFF WITH THE IRON SAVAGES AND TITTY CITY! BRING BACK OUR BELOVED GOOFY BEAR COUNTY!!

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Ospreay vs Huge Guy matches are almost always amazing. Start with Shibata, Joe, & Hook and finish with Ospreay vs Cage and you'll NEVER (completely) lose me, AEW.

Although, as a Canadian living in Japan I contribute ZERO to those all-important same day US TV ratings anyway.

Seeing Jeff Jarrett cry was oddly emotional and moving, not something I would have ever expected.

My wife is partially deaf.  (Her) "Did I hear right? Did he say something about titty city?" (during the Iron Savages promo)
(Me, laughing) "No, you heard correctly."

The the full 9 minute version of the Jarrett promo on AEW social media explains even more if that was possible. The fact that his best friend and mom died on the same day of year you understand why he was so broken for a number of years

I was disappointed by Okada vs Ultimo Guerrero, but I think if you were just a "casual" watching the match with no background, it was just an inoffensive filler TV match. Commentary really put over UG's credentials, so it'll come off like a big win on paper.

With that said, I think the match really exposed how UG has kinda lost a step, and how much his matches in CMLL are repetitive and stick to a pattern that is built around his strengths, and protects him. He has a lot of stroke in CMLL (and he has been in the "Programming Dept" in the past, if he isn't now), but it has probably been a good long while since he has had to "work" like that, and it showed. It somewhat exposed Okada too, since the guy often being labeled as one of the greatest of all time couldn't carry another all-timer to a decent match.

With all of that said... I don't get the insistence on having UG wear the mask. He hasn't wrestled with a mask since Obama was president... unless this is going somewhere, it just doesn't make sense.  And as big of a disappointment as it was, I doubt it is going anywhere now...

Apparently UG didn't bring a mask with him, for obvious reasons, but they insisted on him wearing that ugly little screen printed hood which he clearly had issues with the entire match. If I hadn't read spoilers ahead of watching, I'd have been seriously let down by the whole thing.

That said, the sheer novelty of getting Ultimo Guerrero vs Kazuchika Okada on American cable television is at least really cool.
