just drew
Pals- I'm so excited for this wacky shit. Am I being Captain Cringe right now? Probably. Have I had several Tropicalia's and at least three double Rum and Cokes? None of your fucking business. Do I shit on lots of things I don't like? Indubitably. But your boy loves some weird, wacky-ass first time matchups, and this card is stacked to the tits with them. The only thing that could ruin this is some weeboo dork deciding that Adam Cole needs a title run right now, with Ospreay, Okada, Switcher, MJF, Swerve, Hanger, Mox, Samoseph Joseph, Nothing Rhymes with Orange Cassidy, Jericho, Takeshita, Daddy Cage, Dragon Danielson, and several others on the payroll. The actual list of guys who would be good for AEW's business ahead of Adam Cole would be much longer. Although, it would take a complete and total fucking idiot to think that right now is a good time to put any title on Adam Cole. Unless that title is the "most likely to get hurt at an inopportune time because he's softer than baby shit" title. To be fair, it's a prestigious title. And it's one Adam Cole is uniquely suited for. Edited June 30 by Just Dave

John E. Dynamite
Have I *ever* seen a better preshow? Granted I (and we) am the ideal viewer for whatever 500 hour AEW/NJPW/CMLL/STARDOM dream card they're planning here, but if Lucha Bros buddying it up with Mistico vs. TSUJI and the boys is the best thing I see all week that I'm just peachy. Momo-shiki.

colonial
I picked up my daughter from the airport, where she was visiting family out-of-state the last month, and we got home in time to watch the Forbidden Door preshow. Without giving away results, my daughter (who doesn't watch wrestling) made her opinions known to me ... -- Thought Gabe Kidd and Kyle Fletcher were "dorks" because they "used their real names" and should be a team called "The Big Dorks." Also said Fletcher reminded her of "the worst TikTok creator ever." -- Enjoyed Malakai and Brody from a distance, as they had "too many tattoos." Private Party reminded her of "those kids from junior high who thought they were cool but no one else did." Ishii looked like a "henchman from an anime." -- Said Willow was "fun" and would be a "cool friend if they were in middle school together." Asked me why Statlander and Watanabe were managed by "the guy from 'Sesame Street'." I said that wasn't Gordon. -- Told me Stephanie Vaquer reminded her of Anya from "Spy x Family" and asked if she's accompanied to the ring by a bow tie-wearing dog. I said that was a great idea, but no. She also said Vaquer would be a "cool middle school friend" as well. -- Loved all the masked wrestlers because "the masks were cool." 8

Moxley challenged anyone to face him and Tetsuya Naito answered. Moxley accepted. I think Tetsuya Naito regains at this event. I hate the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. On 6/9/2024 at 4:03 PM, EVA said: It would legitimately make no sense for Moxley to win the belt off Naito in America and then lose the belt right back to him in America, with just a couple of very midcard-y defenses in Japan in between. That does nothing to help NJPW in the long run, which is what they desperately need to be thinking about. It also doesn’t help AEW at all for Mox to lose the only one of the two Naito matches that most AEW fans are likely to see. Mox has to win this. That said, doing things that make no sense has become the Gedo way, so… I called it.

Raziel
I've been in freezers hotter than that crowd between 8:15 and 11:30. Except for that bit where they turned on Mone HARD.

Niners Fan in CT
Ah great show. New York turning on Mercedes and chanting "Fuck the Celtics" and "Fuck the Red Sox" was wonderful. She switched right into heel mode after that. Stephanie Vaquer was awesome, what a showing by her... Ospreay and Swerve was fantastic. I'm so happy Swerve retained, I've been loving his run since the Hangman series. Hilarious seeing Jim Jones out there. 4

Curt McGirt
That main was the most ridiculous ninja kung-fu gymnastics competition sixteen-thousand kickout double triple quadruple finisher wrestling match ever. Even those of you who like such stuff had to feel like you ate a whole Chicago-style stuffed pizza in one sitting. DEAN once said about a match that a fucking shot from a shotgun probably wouldn't keep the participants down and that's what it felt like. ANYWAY. Curiously flat card. Hechicero got beat in short time by Max and then it kind of coasted from there. - Caster has a horrible mustache and rhymes "bitch" with "bitch" five or six times. Talented! Scrambling Omega's face on the video was fantastic and Okada hipping-to-the-hop will be a gif. We seem to be building up to that big Billy Gunn vs. Kazuchika Okada title defense. - The Danielson match lost me soon as they faked yet another injury. Mind wandered, guitar called to me, so I picked it up and promptly lost attention for a while. - I did catch Taz calling Nigel a potty mouth, Taz calling himself the Human Duplex Machine, and Nigel crying for the Pride Month match. Nigel needed to stuff a sock in it all night long. Really, match felt like an angle with how it turned out, and nothing really happened with a happily-ever-after ending anyway. - ZSJ vs. Orange was a very high-IQ match that I wish the crowd had been more into. The Hechicero match I watched before it was better, but this was really solid, and had advancement in its own angle even though Zack isn't sticking around. Orange gets burnt again and I'm wondering how bitter he can get. The work was actually more centered than the CMLL affair, less esoteric, but still as jaw-droppingly technical. - Bill needs that Diesel/Batista run that Wardlow shit the bed on. - A lot of people almost got injured in the ladder match and we will probably find out some of them did. They shoulda called an audible, torched the plans for Perry, and gave the belt to Takeshita from the crowd response (because if you can wake up THIS crowd you deserve a reward). - So guess who actually woke up the crowd for real? Mone, for being carried by Stephanie Vaquer, and being from Boston. And then there was the match with crappy-ass Red Shoes and a crappy-ass finish and yeah let's call the whole thing off.

No... the match was to put over Steph's offense and Mercedes is one of the best bumpers in the business and they did just that. Mercedes and Vaquer are going to run this back in Arena Mexico. Mike Campbell
Something that I just randomly realized. Orange Cassidy's history at Forbidden Door is as follows: - Loses to Will Ospreay, still officially a NJPW guy at the time. Reportedly the original plan was Andrade vs. Ospreay, but NJPW nixed it because of his heat with CMLL. - Wins a 4 way match, pinning Daniel Garcia - Loses to Zack Sabre Jr. tonight. Would it be a safe assumption to say that New Japan doesn't appear to be as fond of the Freshly Squeezed one as Coach Tony?
Ace
I dug the show a lot but it was far too fucking long. Danielson needs to stop using the injury spot in every single match.
