I thought the footage and the whole angle, was handled about as well as they could if they were going to do it. They tried to position FTR as the adults in the room who are focused on making AEW awesome and not petty beefs between egos. Basically it's dumb that Punk did this and it's dumb that The bucks did this. But they probably would've been better off not doing any of it.8 points

Apparently quite a lot of the NHL's tape library archive was purchased from a tape trader, who set up a national network of VHS enthusiasts to make sure that he would get the full broadcasts of every game on every channel nationwide. He'd get people to send him the footage, and then edit out all of the pre-game, all of the post-game, and all of the actually playing Hockey so he could make his "Best Hockey Fights" compilation tapes. But because he kept all of the raw footage, that meant that he was suddenly, accidentally the official video librarian of the league. His name is Sandy Bowens, he's Anthony Bowens' dad.8 points

I hope the footage is as good as Glenn Danzig getting knocked out by the singer of the North Side Kings back in the early 2000's. For those who don't know what I'm referring to. https://youtu.be/zfD7agP1yxw?si=OuMz228zQRunNnYM6 points

You know CM Punk's a draw when both companies are booking you simultaneously.5 points

I was hoping showing the video would be funny or amusing in presentation but it really just came across as dumb. One can nitpick but its 90% how Punk described it, and the TK "feared for my life" part looks silly since while Punk did yell at him (it wasn't mentioned but you could tell when it happened) it didn't look like he was going to attack him. Then they sent out boring ass shitty promo FTR to further kill the already confused crowd for the next hour. TK needed a good friend to tell him showing the footage would only "work" if it was presented ridiculously almost like a cartoon, or it showed a very different version than what Punk said. Neither happened. They should never mention it again and hope everyone forgets.5 points

Hard disagree. Respectfully of course. I absolutely adored that match. My match of that show. In fact, it’s the style of wrestling that I’d say I enjoy most in AEW.5 points

Yeah, I saw that post earlier and before and after the Bucks segment Tony looked completely miserable. I feel awful for him.4 points

Also, Will Ospreay. I'm not mad at him going at Triple H in that promo. Obviously Triple H is perturbed because any key free agent that hits the market, Tony Khan is paying them more money for less dates. So Hunter took shots at Ospreay over wanting to spend time with his family. It was a bit of a dick move by Hunter. Ospreay has a right to respond.4 points

That caught my attention the second time around. Bitch waited until Perry was in a position where he couldn’t defend himself before he threw the first strike.4 points

The fans in attendance were chanting for Punk during that footage.4 points

I'm not sure what that accomplished. I have to correct the person who said "why did Tony fear for his life over that?" because the story goes that Tony/Punk had a separate incident as well.. not just this one that was shown. But back to the footage. I wouldn't say it happened "exactly" the way Punk said. Punk implied in the interview that Jungle Boy "got too close" so he had to choke him or whatever. That didn't happen. Punk waited until Jungle Boy flung his hair back and then attempted to strike him. So does it show Punk is a liar? Maybe.. or at least only telling half truths. But what does it accomplish? Everyone knows Punk is an asshole and will likely exit WWE at some point after having an altercation. This didn't help AEW, Tony or Jungle Boy or anyone..4 points

Bless Dustin's heart for trying to carry that whole show on his forehead.4 points

I don't know if the show itself will have late WCW vibes but all this talk about the video sure does. I really want to say I don't care but it's all bumming me out so I guess I do. I mean it's wrestling and all but it can still be possible for somebody to be professional and not pull shit like this, right?4 points

I will take Vacant Lot over The State of the two, although both pale in comparison to Kids in the Hall.4 points

I was at the show live and I'd have to respectfully disagree as well. It also had the second loudest crowd reaction, at least from my section, outside of the Sting match.4 points

Insane praise Tank has been wrestling for 25 years and has been going to shows since the 70s!!4 points

Also HOOK vs Taylor and Danielson/Claudio vs Fletcher/Hobbs, so that’s a whole lot of wrestling I want to watch in the next week.3 points

So in short, nothing Punk said was disproved, nothing was added to the upcoming match and everybody involved in the ‘creative’ for this looks like a clown show. Remarkably stupid on all levels.3 points

He's 26. So closer to 23 than 30, anyway. And how is almost 30 not a kid? What board does Casey think he's on?3 points

Dear Tony, If you're gonna send guys out there to die with the "We wrestle" rah rah promos, then actually just fucking let the guys wrestle and not act like it's the 90's.3 points

Cope and Penta had a banger, Dustin bled buckets, May and Jay had a solid match, Willow got put over BIG TIME, but none of that is going to matter.3 points

Yeah, AEW should have just ignored CM Punk's interview. We know Punk is a malcontent who is never happy. Sooner or later, something will piss him off and he'll walk out on WWE again. That said, I like the Bucks using the incident as an excuse for losing to FTR at All In.3 points

I would just like to point out that there were at least 4 former DVDVR posters in that footage, and another just out of frame.3 points

The worst part of all this is that Jack Perry is going to be catapulted into a high profile spot with the Bucks and Okada. Brawl In is the best thing that ever happened to him, clearly.3 points

TAKA is ok these days. His athleticism is pretty much gone but he can do a good match with mat work and simple straightforward wrestling. Him and Danielson could probably have a good match together. Also him and Rocky Romero could probably sleepwalk through a perfectly fine match together3 points

He'll be Trump's running mate as both scumbags upstanding gentlemen who are innocent until proven guilty desperately try to get elected as a shield against their various criminal and civil charges.3 points

Same with The State. All the licensed music used had to be dubbed over with sound a like songs, which is way it took so long for it to be released on dvd, which eventually came out in 2012.3 points

How is TAKA these days? Used to be one of my faves back in those days... In a similar vein, Masato Tanaka is still going strong and has visited the US a few times lately, would LOVE to see him pop up for a few AEW marches...3 points

"Refs checking the wrestlers for foreign objects before the match" is something that faded away without us noticing. I really miss the heel shtick of facing the ref and letting them check their right leg, then facing the turnbuckle...and raising their right leg again, hoping the ref doesn't notice.3 points

I can barely have a civil, sensible conversation about AEW anywhere on the internet right now. Please God no more. Now we know what happened. Every child that already decided they were gonna scream WCW at this (despite not knowing what the fuck they were talking about) is going to for months and everyone that supports this company is going to have their joy eroded if they even bother to peek into the larger wrestling discourse. No mas. Please focus your energy on booking bigger matches when you have a presumed ratings bump. Please focus on giving Mariah May a microphone so she can explain to a live crowd who debuting wrestlers are. Please sequence matches and segments anything but randomly.2 points

I saw Tanaka on the October 2023 West Coast Pro show vs Vinnie Massaro. After the first unprotected chairshot to the head, I skipped to the next match. If that's all you can do anymore (this goes for both guys), fuck off down the road. I loved The State. Nobody understands the reference when I tell them that penguins ain't natural because they're not in The Bible. Also when I long for $240 worth of pudding. The Ben Stiller Show was also great, speaking of early 90s sketch comedy.2 points

Still, speaking of missing copyrighted music, is there anything worse than watching ECW from WWE sources?2 points

I have never hear of Chris Colt. Dude is completely off the chain. Calling himself “The Chris Colt Experience” and coming out to an Alice Cooper song in like 1975 is so far ahead of the game. The part where he’s nearly intentionally run over is about the 18th craziest thing in this thing. Man, I love Chris Colt now.2 points
