  3. On the topic of redemption, I can't speak for Jarrett, but I always viewed the Christian idea of redeeming yourself as being in the eyes of God. I think too many people view it as a get out of jail card, and it's not. It's you repairing your relationship with God, and part of that is accepting your punishment in the mortal world. So while it's always possible Vince could be redeemed, any claims of such shouldn't be taken at face value, and it shouldn't mean he gets out of earthly punishment.

  4. I'm into a lot of the same old dad metal as Jericho (relevant username!) and I have no earthly idea what this fit is supposed to be. It's like Bowie fucked the Wendy's logo

  5. Having grown up in the black church, unfortunately, that seems to be the case for A LOT of people to abuse that tenet or find ways to condone the abuse. To get this off of religion and tie it back to Vince, it's insane to write a redemption story when they themselves aren't looking for redemption. Vince had almost eight decades to get his life together when there are folks who never got life cause they were stillborn or died in a car accident as a teen or for whatever reason did not get to enjoy a full, long fruitful life. You might not believe in karma or even a higher God, BUT there is always a decent chance that if you abuse life, life will abuse you back. That has come home to roost.

  6. I'll chip in what's in my purse to make this a reality for the sheer hilarity of it. I have, let's see, $7 in cash, a half-filled repeat customer card for a local salad shop that I haven't been to since before the pandemic and I'm pretty sure is closed, snacks, various toiletries, and my spare glasses. LET'S GET THIS DEAL DONE BABY!

  7. The Okada Sweepstakes has begun. His contract with NJPW has expired. AEW has made "a substantial offer" and depending on who you ask, appears to be headed there. WWE is "actively negotiating with him" and depending on who you ask, appears to be headed there.

  11. I quite like it. Particularly the ersatz PWI-ish nature of the presentation, including the couple of "Wait! What? Really?" rankings. Hopefully it generates some enjoyably spirited discussion. Hopefully the rankings don't lead to wrestlers and fans caring overmuch about wins and losses. Looking forward to someone completely losing their shit because (for example) Dragon isn't ranked as a male singles wrestler. Curious how the usual doomsayers will parse this to continue forecasting doom for the promotion. A lot to like here. An interesting condiment on the buffet table that is AEW.

  13. Sad that Jericho doesn't have anyone in his life that cares about him enough to tell him his goofy ass looked like Ronald McDonald before he went on stage.

  14. I thought the show was good, not great, but never dragged or anything. Was pleasantly surprised by Mox/Hardy, Hangman/Toa and Swerve/RVD. Wasn't really excited for any of them, but enjoyed them all. I mentioned this over in the Football folder, but in his post-game interview, San Francisco 49er Brandon Aiyuk dropped a "Bang Bang Niners Gang!"

  15. I was really tired so Swerve/RVD felt like a fever dream but in a really good way. Whoever called it an ECW TV main event was spot on. Good nonsense brawl that started great with the thrown chair to the face. They did that old spot where the guy gets nutted on the top and RVD does a kick off of it. That was always one of the RVD spots in ECW that both popped people and also took too long to set up because he’d usually do a lot of his preening. I also loved the slingshot legdrop with Swerve on the apron — I am sure I have seen that spot 5000000 times since, but gave me some great ECW throwback vibes when you’d see whoever they were debuting that month pull out something you never thought possible. Joe is just the best. Most all-around complete wrestling personality. Man, I know I have said it a bunch of times in the past but just let him run with the belt for a few months, let someone beat him for the title, and then Joe wins it back six months later. Rinse and repeat for three years. Joe transcends being either a face or a heel and is just “badass.” And since he took losses before, he can take them again and not lose any of his gravitas.

  21. The long term storytelling is that he used the stolen weed to persuade RVD to take this match! Toni and the announcing team were amazing. Toni: Who does your makeup, Mr. Schiavone? Anton LaVey? Taz: I think it's Benjamin Moore. Also Toni accusing Excalibur of being Sean Mooney, then Ex accidentally referred to "Jeff Harvey," which led Taz to accuse him of being Mike Adamle. God damn, just some quick witted mfers there.

  22. The CMLL guys made a wise choice to wear the boss suits. Absolutely badass. So excited for Hechicero vs. Danielson. I loved Toa Liona being able to show lots of new offense. I certainly don't like guys cracking skulls with head butts, but the way Bryan Keith and Liona creatively utilize their craniums gets a thumbs-up from me. Yokozuna-esque rope-assisted splashes! Still early days and all, but I reckon this kid's got something. Toni Storm is incredible at this role. It's a roller-coaster ride. Bonus points for Luther's "I'm crushing your head!" in a nod to Kids In The Hall, his fellow Canadians. RVD was kinda awesome in that match. Smart move to not have Nana there tonight. Swerve's victory felt well-earned by the end. In general, I'm really enjoying this Samoa Joe, Hangman, and Swerve scenario. It's a nice new direction.

  24. Well Mox cut a promo on the CMLL boys saying that they came into his backyard, and they'd better hope and pray that they (IBCC) don't decide to come into theirs. And AEW already made a trios match for next week. So I don't think we're seeing Mox vs. Okada right away. I'm honestly far more excited at the prospect of seeing Averno in AEW.

  26. fuckin’ what? There’s literally a section of the lawsuit that describes Ace and Vince raping her in an office. This fucking piece of shit. Pretty sure this all happened while his wife had brain cancer, too. Or recovering from surgery to remove the tumors on her brain stem, anyway.

  29. Fun show. I'm a high voter on Hardy v Mox. Jeff's work enhancing Jon was totally on point. Bring on CMLL! Love this. Hanger v Toa had it's moments. Toa did well and had some nice spots. He still seems a bit lost at points, but he continues to show improvements. Loved both the Young Bucks promos here. They're totally nailing these characters. I was sad thinking the 'staches would be gone, but the goatees are awesomely bad too! Wardy v Komander was fine. I'm okay with Komander jobbing to Wardy if he can make it interesting. Here he came up a bit short of that. Glad to hear the knee's alright. Bill/Starks/Sting/Darby sitdown was fine, but not sure why we needed a sitdown? There isn't anything all that intriguing that these guys needed to discuss. I'm a fan of jumpcuts, but these sitdown edits are often pretty clunky. I'm really hoping for the title change. I like Starks/Bill individually, but this is easily my least favorite AEW Tag Title run in history. I feel no chemistry between Bill and Rick in or out of the ring. Jericho v Fletcher was partially a skim. Jericho's a tough sell as a babyface. I kinda hope the face run somehow ends with the Takeshita loss. I actually kinda liked that botched DDT from the top. It was interesting. I have no issue with future star Fletcher losing to Jericho. There's already too many ppl protected by the booking. Good, solid Purrazzo video. More of these. Scissor Gang promo felt purposeless. Skimmed this shit, but the crowd seemed into it. Jay White/Asses entrance is great. One of the better AEW themes. Deonna v Taya was fine of what I saw. I hope post-Deonna feud they allow Toni to be a babyface in the same delusional mold. Everybody loves her, why heel? Especially against one of the best heels they have. Swerve v RVD totally over delivered. Van Dam looked really good here. This was pretty much perfect for what they were out to accomplish. Joe included. The closing promo wasn't a slam dunk, but I'm already interested in Hanger-Swerve 3. Unfortunately, it feels like we're headed for a dreaded 3 way, but I have too much to be happy about to complain. L-U-V-A-E-DUB!

  30. Jeff's pretty relentlessly positive. He's also a born again Christian, and one of their most base tenets is that anyone can come to know Christ and be saved. From what I've read, I highly doubt Vince is capable of the self-reflection necessary to make any sort of positive change, but I'd be willing to bet that's where Jeff is coming from.

  32. Toni repeatedly just randomly Dropping sneaky, shockingly inappropriate comments is so in line with the character. I also died at Luther doing the head-crushing thing. I liked Mox going for Hardy’s stretched ear, and Jeff was certainly bumping a lot. I guess if he’s not going for titles, he’s going to dish out pain. The scuffle with the luchadores was exciting. Page-Toa was really good, Toa can move! Did not like the WCW feel of Komander as jobber small guy for Wardlow, even if he got in his spots (and botched the Phoenix splash badly). Then Wardlow botched a corner spot, was that when the knee got tweaked? He says he’s ok, which is good for AEW in the sense of this storyline not having to be out on hold for longer still. Crowds seem pretty cold on Wardlow these days, and so am I. Fletcher got to do a lot and look great and the announcers really put him over, but jobbing to Jericho at this point isn’t a step up for him. And what the fuck was that corner botch? Looked bad, could’ve been really bad. I like the Bang Bang Scissor Gang but that felt unnecessary other than to sell new t-shirts. Deonna-Taya was good but not quite as good as I was expecting. Johnny and Taya really do have that gross weird couple at the bar giving you the eye thing going. Bad camera angle on super kick showing about 3 inches of air. Finisher twist was nice though! Also liked the promo with Deonna. I liked the main a lot, like many others said it had the feel of an ECW TV main event, lots of stiff kicks and hurty bumps. Swerve’s strange style does have some elements of RVD in it (adding extra rolls, kicks from various angles). Maybe RVD is at 3/4 speed but he still has amazing leg flexibility and strength. Friday 8-man should be fun, plus Willow-Aminata. Next Wednesday is basically a PPV.

  34. Also, I like how Danielson is like the secret final boss/final form of Dr. Wily or the Red Falcon alien at the end of a Contra game that you have to beat, since he fights all the time and never loses yet STILL isn't on the list. I'm shocked that Jericho decided to cover something so recent. His guitar player is the dude from Stuck Mojo, a total of-their-era crap '90s band. I would doubt any of them listen to anything made past the turn of the century.

  38. Mox/Hardy wasn't bad though I'm not sure what they're doing with Jeff. No matter what he turns into I don't think I'll like it but whatever. Aside from that it was a fun setup episode that breezed on by. I'm torn between Page/Toa and the main as my favorite for different reasons. One had Hangman bumping like a freak to make Toa look like a king among men (I think he succeeded) and the other had RVD beating the shit out of poor Swerve. Both wins felt earned due to the beating Page and Swerve took and it helped each cases for being in the top of the rankings. Even if these aren't on MOTYC lists they were still ones that will hold up quite well on rewatch. Also, during commercial for Deonna/Taya Excalibur said "Jeff Harvey" and Tony had his head on the desk losing it. It's worth checking out and I just love how Toni on commentary is an excuse for them to loosen up.

  41. I thought pretty much everything delivered tonight. Moxley/Hardy was solid, nice setup for CMLL vs AEW after. Hangman/Toa was pretty awesome, Toa looked fantastic in a singles outing and the finish was neat. Komander's phoenix splash on Wardlow looked killer. Jericho/Fletcher was good stuff. Deonna/Taya was shorter but good. Deonna's entrance/theme rules, star quality. Deonna using a different finish that looked cool. Plus Timeless on commentary was extra good. Loved Swerve/RVD, total ECW TV main event vibes. Almost thought RVD had a shot if Hangman got involved after the Hook/Cage interference. Thought RVD took all of Swerve's stuff really well and looked great altogether. Definitely here for more RVD in AEW whenever we can get it.
