  1. Going to re-tell my Sabu story that I posted on here back in November 2021.

  2. 40 years ago today, my parents got me out of school a few hours early so we could go to the premier of Return of the Jedi. I was the coolest kid in the 3rd grade for a week.

  8. But it was a link to something that portrayed AEW in a negative light! What's he gonna do, not compulsively post it as soon as possible? Think of all the discussion we'd be missing out on.

  9. Also I remember people raving about Cena vs JBL Judgement Day 2005 - Really bloody I Quit match. If I remember correctly it was seen as his first big match where people saw him as more than just ruthless aggression.

  12. The Sabu vs. Terry Funk barbed wire match is one of my favorite matches ever. It is less of a match and more of a reflection of the decay of society.

  17. There has been zero indication Rosa is anywhere close to returning.
    3 points
  18. My thought of the day for the PPV upcoming, if Hayter is truly hurt and needs to drop the belt. Might as well have Storm beat her really quickly via cheating and then have Thunder Rosa come down and say it ain't going down like that, beating Storm, regaining the title she never truly lost.
    3 points
  19. If Hayter can't wrestle for All In, she should start the show and go on about how they created a movement, they created a tradition, they changed the world, etc., and that each and every person in that arena better come back next year to see her wrestle. Work those fans out of their cash!
    3 points
  20. Uhhhh… it kind of goes without saying when they made Hayter’s title reign into a real one after Rosa relinquished the belt. But I guess you can also go and check the title history on AEW’s website and see that there’s no mention of Toni being an interim champion. Oh and you can also watch that full episode back, since Excalibur mentions it on commentary too.

  21. I did not get to that part of the show yet since I was also watching the Survivor finale. I am also not sure if everyone’s age. But for those of you who were not watching wrestling and ECW in the 90s: Seeing Sabu being wheeled out in a Hannibal Lecter mask with Paul E. narrating him as the most homicidal, suicidal and genocidal wrestler while he was doing Assai moonsaults into the crowd and jumping through tables literally reinvented wrestling. Sabu blew everyone’s minds. A lot of smart fans used to criticize Sabu matches because of how much stuff he could blow but all of that to me was besides the point — the guy was chaos in human form. Absolute Mt. Rushmore wrestler and maybe the most underrated wrestler ever because Sabu was probably the first person people traded tapes for and indie wrestling might not even without him,

  22. Holy shit yes. Sabu randomly popping up onscreen after every crazy spot like the Mortal Kombat TOASTY! guy would rule this and all worlds.
    3 points
  23. Excuse my language but what the absolute fuck? Sabu randomly showing up and being treated like a huge deal is everything that is great about AEW. If anything the issue isn't that they brought in Sabu to be awesome but that the best thing they can think to do with him is this Adam Cole/Chris Jericho thing. He should be all over Anarchy in the Arena or just in a little insert box doing his pose in the corner of the screen for the whole PPV. I just don't get you at all, man.

  24. Yes, that is my brother. I have a few Action Park stories from growing up. I only went a few times. Chris went a few more times than I did with his friends (he is a few years younger than me.) 1) I was an altar boy. Our altar boy summer trip was to Action Park. My mom would never let me go because of the rep Action Park had and I was 10 or so. The day after the trip, my friend Davy came back with his arms bandaged. Amy friend Kevin came back on crutches. The reason why — there was this chintzy train ride that took you from one end of the park to the other and — most importantly — over the major state highway that bisects the park. Kevin and Davey were on the train when the conductor told them they had to get off immediately because it was on fire. Flames started jumping from the engine. Kevin rolled his ankle real bad jumping off the train. Davey had some burns on his arms from the now scorching hot metal touching his flesh. 2) They had Warped Tours and big concerts for a while. I went to a Warped Tour there and when I got up to the top of the bunjee jumping platform who was there? All of the members of Fishbone. 3) Action Park was reopened a few years ago for a few summers. We went for Chris’s bachelor party. It was so fucking insane. Their flagship ride requires one to walk all the way to the top of this stupidly high platform where a trap door opens under your feet and sends you plummeting down a water slide. They had another ride that answers the question “What would happen if you were to sit in a tube and slide down a flushing uoside down toilet?” Saw a lifeguard have to rescue a man from drowning after he was propelled into the water from a height of 10 feet in the air. Saw someone intentionally ram the person ahead of them in this weird go-last contraption they have (not the Alpline Slides RIP) and the girl who got rammed saw her flip-flops go flying off, meaning she then had to spend a significant amount of time walking uncomfortably on hot barely paved asphalt looking for her sandals. Great place. My brother is a wrestling fan. Not as big as I am but he keeps up. He had Colt, Sami, Eddie Kingston, Sean Waltman and maybe someone else on different episodes of his TV shows. He read one of my e-fed promos on air to Eddie. He was about to get Roddy Piper on an episode of his TV show hit sadly Roddy passed away before it could happen.

  25. In the big picture - this is nothing that they can't work out but - the USPTO (Patent and Trademark Office) rejected Washington's trademark request for Commanders The two reasons are existing trademark for "Commanders' Classic (which is the yearly Air Force/Army game) and 2 pending requests (but those 2 are by a DC lawyer who squatted on like a billion names trying to guess the new team name)

  30. I didn't watch the show. But I did watch Sabu come out. Taz reacting to "suicidal..." popped me. I wish he'd been a little more adversarial with his reaction after that. A little more "This fucking guy..." would've been cool. Really wish he wasn't in this Jericho/Cole deal, and instead was a "hazard feature" in the Anarchy in the Arena match. Like everyone is fighting but Sabu goes from station to station chucking chairs at anyone and everyone. I got to meet Sabu at a Dragon Gate USA show where he teemed with AR Fox, and they were great together. That was 12 years ago. So little idea what he's like now. Here's a match from 3 years ago... he might be good for some wild spots in front of the big crowd.

  31. Coming into this, I pretty much want to see everything except for the Karter/Clayton vs Andretti/Martin, and considering that means I want to see 18 matches, that's impressive. I mean I could probably take or leave D'Amboise vs Kamela too but I kind of like the occasional match between two people so low on the card. But I anticipate doing this in batches. This isn't 1995 or anything. We can watch wrestling on our own terms. I think a lot of the whining about this was solely a twitter thing. On twitter, you have to stay up with the most recent thing to be part of the immediate discourse. On Twitter, you watch wrestling no necessarily because you love wrestling but because you crave being part of something immediate and live and bigger than you. You derive part of your identity from it and therefore you have to consume it as soon as possible so you don't fall behind the curve, because the curve is only going to last a few hours. ROH is made for a message board crowd by a message board poster. Mark Briscoe vs JD Drake: Great way to start things off. Big chops. Mark and JD colluded to make JD look like a million bucks, especially witht he beil/beale/beal but also with the Blockbuster counter into the push up hammer later (with a bit of help from Henry). Tons of character in this too between Mark wanting to go chop-for-chop with Drake, the redneck kung fu as a transition/hope spot, and then Drake blowing his advantage by wanting to go for the J-driller. Nigel was great on commentary riding Caprice after the Moonsault kickout. Really good opener. Serpentico vs Claudio: Loved this. Everything I wanted. A bit of goofiness to start. A lot of Serpentico being a plucky babyface and sneaking shots in with Claudio just crushing him the second he caught him. Unconventional finish that gets over how dangerous Claudio is but with a beautiful bit of defiance from Serpentico. I'm sure Serp absolutely loved being in that match. Kiera Hogan vs Vertvixen: Vertvixen needs to do way more "Get Over Here" stuff to help her stand out on this stage. Did she do it on WOW? If I was promoting Defy, I'd book her in a dog collar match based literally just on that. Athena was doing a similar thing to Jade on Dynamite but she portrays this wild sense of danger Jade doesn't. It also worked better than Taya vs Frost from a layout perspective as the distraction let Vertvixen take a lot more of the match. Of course, Hogan's better working from underneath and is less of a physical force, but still. And of course, Athena doesn't go hyperviolent but just basic bullying at the end. You never know where she's going to land. AR Fox vs Kyle Fletcher: Big week for Fletcher obviously, including the frustrating promo in the ring when he had to relinquish the belts. AR Fox's theme says he's going to hit a 450 from the moon. Fletcher is really into the specific beats of his theme in this intimate setting. The USA chants were funny. I like Fletcher's bodyslam. It's almost like a "snap" slam like I haven't seen anyone do. I see Fox kind of like RVD. If you work over his leg and try to work a match around that, you're doing yourself and the match a disservice since he's going to get all of his shit in on the comeback and his shit involves rolling and bounding. Wrestling would be better overall if something like the running knee into the corner/brainbuster just finished a match like this now and again. It looked incredibly credible. Just sometimes, you know? Or the Falcon Arrow off the top..... I do like the reverse headlock with the arms locked set up for his hammerlock driver though. Willow vs Hyan: I'm sure the crowd will get burned out eventually but they're still hot and chanting (ROH in the last match and Let's Go Willow here). I liked the covering on why she didn't have the title yet. Obviously Ian was there so he could speak to it but calling back to the match with Mercedes was good announcing too. Willow's been good since she came in but given the slightly shifted hierarchy she's able to assert herself more and it's really working well. It did over the weekend and it did here too Mack Attack vs Kingdom: I'd like to see Kingdom vs Silver/Reynolds (they did it back in 2015 but I don't want to track that down). Two teams that can chain together offense in a way that isn't overly irritating. Taven IS irritating but i do kind of like his jawing and both Bennett and Taven's stooging. He matched up well with Willie for opening match stuff too (but I wouldn't have wanted to see that later in the match). I got a kick over Nigel pointing out how the Mack Attack should be the lowest ranked in the company. Ventura stuff there. W.Mack is obviously a great hot tag. Fans still hot for the Ninja Rap. Good for them. Kingdom needed their win back but they did a good job of protecting the Macks with a bit of "new team" miscommunication on who the legal man was. And I'm through hour #1. It was a good hour!

  32. Good point. I'm just s t i l l not used to babyface Cole/Strong just yet, they were still the top heels when I stopped watching NXT, and Cole had just finished up having those two great Hangman matches when he got hurt, so I really gotta re-wire my brain on that particular alignment

  36. A fun go home show, but no doubt marred by the not-so-happy hour Vegas crowd. OC v Fletcher was good. The sluggish audience and vast amount of finishers certainly played against it, but it was still pretty good. During the commercial break the crowd was booing OC's roll out antics. Interesting. Have we seen a crowd boo OC? I love the Aussie Open signing, but I'm a bit sad the match with FTR won't be the thing to most look forward to at Forbidden Door. Now what are we getting, fucking Yoshi Hashi and Goto? Ugh, I'll get over it shortly. Rick Starks promo with his classic combo of stellar flow and empty content. The attack felt like a tired trope, but always nice to see the Bullets. Jungle Boy promo was 'perfectly fine'. FTR promo felt a bit rushed and a bit heelish. Anybody else find multiple guys coming out holding their own microphone kinda lame? Small detail, but I want one mic, pick it up at the desk, and pass it around (or steal it from your adversary). Happy to see Briscoe lay out all those motherfuckers. I really wanted to see a showdown with Satnam where the big man backs down for the sake of the heel cause. Mark fucking rules. Sammy promo was fine, but, as a Sammy fan, I look forward to the end of this babyface experiment. House of Black v Fox/Metalik/Christian was a fun competitive enhancement bout. Still not quite digging the silly lighting, but it was better than last time. The finish was fucking awesome. They can go slow, but they need to sustain a strong push for Brody going forward. Ppl r ready for it. Love all these backstage BCC promos. I dig Renee, but they could use more straight to the camera promos and less interviewee is interrupted or attacked. MJF promo was mostly good. He did a good job of putting over his opponents until he went on about 'no competition'. What the fuck!?! There's enough ppl that feel that way about his upcoming PPV opponents. Best to steer clear of that line of thinking, no? Darby did a good job on his end of the promo, but looked a bit silly assuming dastardly Friedman wouldn't cheap shot him in the ballsack. I was watching Taya v Frost wishing it was at Universal Studios. The match was fine regardless of the lack of live interest. Interesting attire for Leila Grey. I'm a fan of the Tony Khan promo. Looking forward to the long awaited Punk return. Strong Hangman Page promo. The cowboy's shit is generally spot on. Cole-Jericho Contract Signing featured some good mic work. And Sabu! Awesome! And yes would've been far more awesome if they knew how and when to actually do a proper lights out. Happy to see suited Sabu get some Elite money. Daniel Garcia v Roderick Strong is a match I need a second look at. As expected, I dug what I saw here. Garcia's really going for it with the dancing! Nice Willow Nighingale promo. Willow's star continues to rise, and we, seemingly everybody on the board and in the arenas, are here for it! Is she potentially the new breakout huge money drawing star? I suggest: maybe yes. Lucha Bros v Claudio/Yuta looked terrific from what I saw. Yeah, caught the Bear talk from Danielson. His commentary is always fantastic. Love the 3/4 nelson talk even better. Sometimes I think Claudio is the best wrestler in the company right now. I suspect this Main Event tag and the Garcia-Strong bouts will provide even more fun on view 2. Nice Moxley promo to close things out. Tho, I was hoping for a little Kenny and a little Hanger here. Fun show. I hope the out-of-towners wake Vegas the fuck up on Sunday.

  37. I really think it has to do with his leg strength Like last year he had 88 kickoffs for Jacksonville - only half of them resulted in touchbacks. That was 26th in the league That seems really low (unless it was a strategic thing the Jags were doing) Looking it up - the Top 10 teams were 68% or higher

  38. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Booker on commentary, he'll mix in some good points and just say some nonsense too. It's probably the closest we'll get to Dusty back on commentary again.

  39. I feel the exact opposite - I think the second Taz saw Sabu a switch should have flipped and he should have turned into 1996 Taz that just wanted to kill him. He even could have turned right back into Jovial Taz as soon as Sabu left and apologized, saying he didn’t know what came over him.

  41. 100% agree. I'm with the people who have enjoyed Orange's run, his matches have been great, but don't tell me he's being worn down from all these title defenses and then have him kick out of back-to-back Tombstones and a 2nd rope Michinoku Driver.

  42. I went to a party where everyone came dressed as their favourite vegetable. Not too into the whole "Karen" angle. Dax and Cash seemed to be talking Faster Than Regularly. They were a couple of Fast Talking Rasslers. Anyone else expecting BCC to win AitA to set up B&G? I think they should give Jack Perry a Christmas Creature gimmick. If Jack Perry married Lady Frost, he could be Jack Frost and she could be, uh... Lady Boy. If Wheeler Yuta married Cash Wheeler... If Taya married my old friend Steve Yellowribbon... Debuting the new show in Chicago, eh? I'm legit curious what kind of reaction Punk will get. Presumably a huge hometown pop... But, oh, what glorious schadenfreude if he got booed! Did NOT foresee Sabu coming out. There was almost TOO MUCH good wrestling today. Yowza.
