  1. I still have the same concern any time a new promotion is announced: Are they bringing in Sid?

  5. I am ready for this. Wrestling has needed this for a long time. The big question is distribution.

  9. My dude, they booked a murder mystery on BTE and had the victim return with an army of ghost penises at their PPV.

  12. Colonel Parker actually made his return to wrestling this past year. Honestly you need more managers who sweat profusely at ringside, dab their foreheads with a handkerchief, and say “Lordy... Lordy...”.

  13. It is a reasonable question - it's one thing to do goofy comedy skits and one big show, but a full-time promotion is a whole other deal.

  14. So what exactly is going to set AEW apart from ROH, MLW, and Impact? Different money mark? Or is part of this going to be the wrestler union talk?

  16. Happy new year to you all. I wish you all nothing but the best this year and the years to come and I want nothing more than to be right here well wishing everyone at this same time next year.

  17. In case you haven’t been paying attention, the Elite have been making a shitload on merch for a long time now. I don’t think it would be the same for *everybody*, but I think if you plugged someone like Sasha into their promotional machine, she would rake it in, hand over fist.

  18. Omega won't commit to anything right now because it would undercut his bargaining power. I don't think he's pushing for the absolute most lucrative deal but coming out in support of AEW right now is risky because we don't know what that company's relationship with NJPW is moving forward. But as been said by Beech and myself a number of times, NJPW isn't stupid and knows that if Kenny (and possibly Ibushi) leave because of the AEW stuff, they'll go to DDT or somebody else and sell tonnes of tickets there. Kenny's way more valuable to New Japan than ROH is when they could replace the ROH void with AEW. It just doesn't make sense to lose your key to overseas expansion because of loyalty to a third rate glorified indie, in which even Kevin Kelly sees as using NJPW as a quick draw for ticket sales ("the girl they hook up when they want to get laid" was the analogy he used).

  20. Lewis recommended Hue Jackson as his replacement, so apparently the parting wasn't as amicable as the team portrayed it. C'mon, Marvin, an NFL team employed you as head coach for 16 years straight without a playoff win. The odds of that happening are slightly lower than the odds I'll see a unicorn this week. Why do you hate the Bengals so to wish Hue Jackson on them?

  21. Exactly. If AEW can stick it out for a full year and prove they're a viable promotion, then expect a ton of jumps from WWE.

  22. I kinda wish it was like the old days and all this company's would just work together. I mean say like in Toronto it wasn't out of the question to have the AWA and WWF champions on the same card. Impact sort of got the idea by showcasing other champions. Austin Aries the belt collector was a cool idea (just wrong person since he burns his bridges and all). So I hope AEW can work out something with ROH and NJPW because in the end it helps everyone if they work together instead of this "oh well, he's exclusive". None of these companies are the WWE who can make a guy or girl exclusive. That's another thing I hope they don't go crazy off the bat and try to compete with the WWE on scale and stuff. Honestly though, I doubt it could happen but I'd love to see this thing end up on Netflix. On demand is the future and you would get into way more homes than being on WGN or maybe local CW stations.

  23. Both Rumble matches were good, that was one of the probably top 3 PPVs of 18, Rumbles have become very formulaic and have the same troupes every year but last year both were booked well

  29. WWE has done two things in recent years that really hurts the success of a new major promotion. First, they signed everybody. Second, they stopped releasing people and gave performers financial stability. Your average mid-carder does not have a history of drawing and is already making a lot of money. How much are they even worth to a new promotion? Why would someone throw mid-six figures at a Cesaro without any way to recoup it? I don't see where the talent pool is coming from unless there is another shoe to drop. (Talent share with New Japan? CM Punk sighting?) It's not a coincidence that what we know so far resembles a reshuffling of the ROH roster. That being said, all of this speculation about rosters is way more fun than discussing Cena's hair.

  30. I'm not a Fulham fan so I'm no expert on the matter, but I do know Tony Khan is the Khan that took a hands-on role with them starting with when they were in the 2nd division of English football and now they're in Premier League so I'd assume he hired the right guys for the job there and that takes money so clearly they're not afraid to spend. I think he wouldn't be getting involved in this if he wasn't prepared to spend money and listen to the wrestler's (ie the Elite) opinions. Even if it ends up being a bust I don't think we'll be looking back and thinking they didn't make a real go of it. I think that's what I've been craving as a wrestling fan: someone to come in and actually make a captivating product.

  31. Didn’t Dash Wilder tweet something about wrestling the Young Bucks in 2019? The Revival managed by Jim Cornette would easily be the #1 heel act in AEW.

  32. This is absurd. When he does his 45 minute AEW rants the past few months, he's stated over and over and over again the exact opposite of this. The goal is to firmly establish themselves as an alternative. Not direct competition (yet if ever) but a place where the wrestlers are likely treated as employees with a good schedule and good pay. The market has been craving this since WCW shutdown.

  35. It's early days, but I expect this as well. Especially when SCU are all over your big reveal video. Distribution is important, but I need to see some star power before I'm convinced this stands a chance of working. Hopefully that Khan money gets them someone who can produce a decent video package. Most everything from All In and BTE is amateur hour. Time to call in a pro. There were some timing issues with All In for the top matches and some entrances. Hope Cody learned some lessons. I hope this is good. But it's still very early days.
