  3. The fantasy booking of Bobby Heenan in the attitude era makes me sad because he would have been gold in whatever role he was in. He would have easily been better than Lawler at being the heel color man. It would have been cool to have Bret and Heenan make amends during the '97 Hart Foundation run. Bret could have admitted that Bobby was right all along about the humanoids. He would have fit as one of Vince's stooges in the corporation. I'm sure Bobby got paid an obscene amount of money from WCW, and I'm glad he got health insurance from them, and was able to be close to his daughter at college, but WCW wasted his talent, but that was par for the course for WCW. It was a no brainer that he should have been in the nWo. He certainly could have filled Bischoff's spot better than Bischoff did.

  4. Heenan would have been smart enough to have Haku and the Barbarian lurking somewhere nearby just in case. He wasn't "The Brain" for no reason.

  5. I turned it on - they were in a strip club Then they did that segment on whatever their Tough Enough type competition is and they asked one guy "Do you have IT?!?!?!" And he stared at them blankly going "Umm...." Good Times

  6. I mean... this is a pro wrestling message board, and WWE--as you say--does a lot wrong. So of course people would find things to complain about, or suggest could be improved. But I think it's also pretty clear that people are happy to celebrate when things are done well. The question is really just the difference between "strong" and "done well". That is, Nak has been booked as strongly as he should be, but not as well as he should be. Both can be true, because--I think--both are. Good writing is more nuanced than choosing winners and losers--if it weren't, WWE would be a lot more consistent in getting people the degree of over they desire. Anyway, this stuff is hard and people will react differently and enjoy different things to different degrees, and we will talk about it here because that's what this is for.

  8. This was a fun episode. These shows continue to be good in a vacuum and I'm sort of excited for next week.

  14. Anyone else see the Rams unis and start looking for Norn Van Brocklin or Crazylegs Hirsch out there? Related question: anyone read "Crazylegs Hirsch" and flash back to @DEAN's "Crazyballs Hirsch" joke?

  15. I just read tat America's Got Talent was renewed for a 13th season. Jesus Christ. I mean, it's not surprising, but still. I watched a season or two when Stern was hired to be a judge because I like his radio program, but, seeing buts and pieces of AGT now, I feel like a moron for ever getting fleeced by this dumb show. It's absolutely a work, start to finish. It hit me when I saw the judges freaking out over a mentalist act, and I said, "why are they surprised by this guy? It's the same act from back when I used to watch." The it hit me, it's the same acts every damn year and every year they act just so amazed and blown away. And it's a fucking sob story vignette before every act. God damn I hate TV. Burn it all down.

  16. I can easily see it actually. I can see Heenan playing a Lawler-esque stooge for McMahon and taking digs at Steve Austin every chance he got. I imagine Heenan having great chemistry with Mr. McMahon.

  17. I'm starting to like the show again (mildly). Roster is getting interesting again after they sort of gutted it to push a bunch of Jarrett cronies. Morrison and Taya are both solid additions. Digging Taya's heelery. Speaking of which, are they a couple? I don't pay attention to backstage news so I have no idea if Morrison/Melina are still a thing. Are Morrison/Taya a couple.? She seems to show up in the same promotions using him. Is that just a coincidence?

  18. Maybe I wasn't clear, but I wasn't saying that Nak wasn't winning consistently. My point was more general that if you're trying to make someone a top guy, they should win consistently and not be put into situations that don't play to their strengths. Guys don't have to win every match or look like King Kong when they lose. Just don't book them to look like idiots when they do lose (i.e. taking your eye off the champ to deal with his two undersized goons and then losing to a shitty looking finisher) and don't make a guy who clearly doesn't speak English well engage in promo battles.

  23. All Durant really did with this fake account stuff is validate the trolls who say he took the easy way out. His recent interview discussing the week following his decision didn't make it look great either. Bullshit he couldn't win. They were one win away from the finals. Then he joins a 73-win team. A lot of people said it was a bad move and then he validates that. He should be giving no fucks and celebrating. All this "I haven't slept in two days" stuff. Really?

  26. I inundated myself with the whole sneaker/streetwear culture when I started reselling shoes. Some of it I still roll my eyes at. I actually like Yeezys, but you have to wear a specific style to make them work. Throw them on under a pair random jeans and they'll look like shit. I never kept a pair I copped, because I don't think I can pull them off. What gets me isn't that people think a shoe is cool, because everyone's taste is different and some people can make shit work that on paper looks terrible ...no, what gets me is how much these fucking doods will pay for those shoes. Astounding numbers. I think it's ridiculous that people would pay retail for some of these shoes(around 200 bucks) but the idea that they're throw down double to triple that is fucking banana pants. I fucking love me some basketball sneakers though. They just add to the game in a completely inconsequential purely aesthetic way. CAn't wait for the season to start just to see the colorway's people come up with. Jordan 32's are rolling out. They're pretty killer. Kyrie Irving's Best move this offseason was the Bruce Lee's. And Lebron's new sneaker is pretty slick too.

  27. It makes sense that I don't see you guys online that much, since I do not have a lot of time to play on weekend evenings. That time is reserved for family stuff on my custody weekends or quality time on the weekends were it is just me and the wifey. I've been there before, man. I hope everything goes well!

  28. Just via Meltzer ratings: vs. Styles, Summerslam and Backlash were both 3.75 MitB '17 was 4.5 (aforementioned) vs. Reigns, Rumble '17 was 4.5 Survivor Series '16 tag match was 4.5 vs. Rollins at HitC '16 was 4. vs. Zayn at Battleground '16 was 4.5. And it goes on from there. I know it's "cool" to think he's a bad wrestler because he had a "bad" title reign (which is also debatable), but don't be willfully ignorant. KO can bring it.

  29. Well, here's one for you: In about a month, I am leaving Florida in order to take a job offer in, of all places, Paducah, Ky. I am not shameless enough to post my GFM link right here right now, but I probably will shortly or at least point the board over to @jdmann, where I've been having fun putting my cut-out head onto Kentucky iconography. 31. It has just enough time travel gobbledygook for me and just enough love story for my boo to watch it with me without being bored out of her mind. Dr. Tom Creo spanning centuries and dimensions in the attempt to cure his beloved wife's cancer sets a high fucking bar for us male significant others. It is the ultimate answer to Janet Jackson's musical question, "What have you done for me lately?"

  32. So on the one hand I get the idea that Jinder is a hypocrite for complaining about jingoistic Americans booing him and then he turns around and makes racist remarks about Nakamura. And I understand he's a heel, and I understand the history of racist gimmicks in pro wrestling. On the other hand, as an Asian dude in America I have to deal with low key racism on an almost daily basis and sometimes I just want to drink a beer and watch some grappling and not think about that stuff and I'm really sick of this shit showing up in my wresting when I just want to chill out after work. So fuck this company.

  34. To me, Pillman's tiny Cincinnati Bengal underdrawers didn't help him at all. They might've helped Jim Barnett do the Five-Knuckle Ickey Shuffle but as a kid, I just couldn't take him seriously. Also, him being announced as just "Flyin' Brian" kind of made him seem second tier in my eyes. I think if he had been announced by his full name and wore solid colored trunks I might've regarded him as being in that Sting/Steiners level of top WCW babyfaces. And teaming with Z-Man didn't help either cause Zenk also came off as being second tier at best. When Jim Ross was talking Z-Man up before his debut he made him seem like some kind of superhero and then generic-ass Tom Zenk walked out to the '89 Batman theme and I was so disappointed cause I had briefly seen him in the WWF and also saw Rick Martel say he ran away cause he was scared.

  35. Just to remind people, the Ken Burns documentary series on the Vietnam War begins on Sunday. I believe it is 2 weeks long for 90 min - 2 hour shows so this one looks to be just as in depth as the Civil War and Baseball ones
