  1. My enjoyment of the first 3 weeks of Mercedes Mone is on par with most around here, but ex-Superstars often need time to adjust. Miro was shit upon until he found his God. Some might say it took Toni Storm over a year to figure things out. Go back and look at what ppl had to say about Brodie Lee for the first patch. Mone's week 2 with the video throw was the worst. Week 1 was completely fine. Week 3 commentary wasn't great, but also not worthy of the degree of shit. When she's finally cleared(?) and able to lace up the boots for a bout I'm pretty confident this shitflinging will subside.

  2. Kyle O'Reilly could be a huge babyface, if they just talk about his actual life story. He has Type 1 Diabetes. It's a lot he had to overcome to just have one wrestling match in his life, let alone a two decade career.

  6. Watching that video three things immediately came to mind: 1. Holy fuck Mark Briscoe's gonna win the title. 2. Holy fuck I better have tissues for when it gets dusty in the room. 3. Holy fuck I need to see this live. I was only intending to go to the Dean show and drive home Thursday night. But I feel a strong need to go to this.

  7. I feel Moné is being set up to turn heel pretty quickly. The obnoxious business speak and focus on herself and her accomplishments, and fuckin with our beloved Willow? C'mon, that's not good guy vibes at all...

  10. I think a nice MJF vs Adam Cole blood feud would be a perfectly fine upper mid-card special attraction showcase feud, similar to Hangman vs Moxley last year. The main event scene and AEW title doesn't need to revolve around it.

  11. Oh god, that's great. There better be at least three Big Guy POUNCES that send the little guys ass over teakettle (or preferably, into the third row)

  13. we're all better off pretending s5 doesn't exist. the change in animation + voices (especially Gambit) makes it impossible for me to watch. that said, i do remember liking the Wolverine/Captain America episode. they're essentially the same. Morph never had a real run in the mainline comics, so their powers haven't really been explored. I expect that it will be a lot of vagueness in this series as well. Morph is a character that i loved in the initial series and was bummed that the comic version, Changeling, was basically a one-shot character from the first few issues back in the '60s and never appeared again. I'm just glad to see them again. agreed on all points. to paraphrase DEAN, X-Men '97 rules the motherfucking world.

  14. Nah, Cole vs MJF doesn’t need the title anywhere near it, I think TK gets that.

  18. Just saw the latest episode. I love that Ed Leslie's gotcha moment to Bischoff was the Disciple gimmick. I don't mind people dunking on Eric but if the best you can show of that particular gimmick is him doing the worst stunner in the history of stunners, then I don't know if you can complain about Bischoff not giving a damn about Ed Leslie. Then, the complaint about the WWF no longer doing the Barbershop segment. If Shawn Michaels didn't kick Marty, then who would have remembered any of those segments? Especially for his participation. They tossed him a bone and kept him employed. When he shows back up in 1993 on one of the very first Raws and cuts one of the most surreal and bizarre promos in wrestling lore, it becomes obvious he did all he could do in wrestling. The era of his type of gimmick and presentation was over with. Given his vast limitations, he had the best possible career you could have imagined. I mean it would have hit a slightly bigger peak if he had won the IC title, but the guy got to main event a goddamn Starrcade. Of that entire 1994 WCW roster, he would been have at the very bottom of the list to do that if you had to do a blind reveal. Ed Leslie is one those guys who got lucky the territory system ended cause he would have just been another guy and floating around doing absolutely nothing of note. Hell, there were much better guys in the territory system that ended up as footnotes or lost to time cause they never got to where Ed was when the Barber thing got over.

  20. First off, the worst stable in AEW history was and will always be the Nightmare Collective. Never forget that it had Brandi in her goth phase, a broken down Awesome Kong, a worthless Luther, and someone who was decent to good on the indies but totally froze when it came to national TV in Melanie Cruise. I’m not prepared to write off the Mercedes stuff yet, unlike a lot of people. They’re clearly building towards something, so I’ll let it simmer. But if she doesn’t wrestle at Dynasty, it’ll feel really weird. Also, does Gunther even use Symphony No. 9 or whatever anymore? I only watch WWE for Punk, so I’m not sure. Either way, does it matter? And as for Ricky Starks.. well, I’m just gonna say it. He kinda sucks.

  26. I agree on the lack of direction of the Undisputed Kingdom. It's quite remarkable. Easy! Maybe I'm alone, but I give a shit about Kyle O'Reilly. I think he's really talented. I'm into this low key story of Kyle wanting to see if he can still hang after the mounting injuries. It seems clear the direction is a feud with Roddy which I totally look forward to.

  27. Honestly, dude, I was gonna say similar, but didn't want to hurt the feelings of anyone still holding out for a blowoff - that's why I opened my last thing with "If this *has* to be done..." Yes, they sold some shirts, and held down the fort at a very tumultuous time for the upper card/main scene, but I have zero desire to go back to it. I'd posit that if TUK didn't have such a heavy TV presence currently, most of the rest of us probably would've forgotten about it too.

  28. I haven't missed the MJF/Cole stuff on TV at all... either guy individually (though we've seen Cole), the angle, any of it. Until you guys brought it up I forgot about it. Probably says a lot about my interests specifically but if anyone else has moved along too, perhaps they should as well.

  30. That’s the best part of all this booking, they can basically go all of 2024 with Joe, Swerve, Hangman, Ospreay, whoever else. Meanwhile, when they’re both ready MJF can occupy Cole and go after non-champion Joe until he gets his revenge. If everything goes well and gets over, MJF finally gets the belt back at the last PPV of the year.

  32. I believe there's a clearance issue. And, as Zakk mentioned above, a want for her first match to be on PPV, which is pretty fair. Blatant abuse of power to win matches sounds in-line with House of Torture chicanery, and I'm not sure you want that anymore than I do. The logic here is their EVP tags don't carry as much weight as they'd like. I suspect this will be revealed in time.

  33. That's the one thing this heel turn from the Bucks is missing - blatant abuse of power to win matches. I'm definitely not saying they should be heel authority figures and making matches and such, but they should be leveraging their position to their benefit a lot more. They should have a crooked referee calling their matches calling thing right down the middle Fonzie style.

  34. The John Tenta episode was pretty heartbreaking, but I enjoyed hearing about his success in sumo wrestling and Japan pre-WWE. He had such a beautiful family that it's heartbreaking to know how much he struggled toward the end, and the wrestling business offered little to him other than the comfort of the memories. Two big problems with the John Tenta episode. First off, the tangent with the Shockmaster stuff. This wasn't the Dark Side of the Shockmaster. It wasn't the Dark Side of Fred Ottman. It wasn't the Dark Side of the Natural Disasters. It was the Dark Side of John Tenta. I get they probably wanted Haku's reaction to Shockmaster and things like that, but it was a tangent that served little purpose and did little to add dimension to Tenta's story. Second, they made a point to mention that no one came to Tenta's funeral. His work friends knew he was sick and dying. They knew he died. Yet no one went to his funeral? Tenta seemed well-liked and beloved by his peers, and yet no one explains why they didn't go. The documentarians either didn't ask or they didn't show it. They make it a point in Ed Leslie's episode to ask about Hogan and Leslie's current status, but no one asked any of these Hall of Famers why they didn't go to their beloved friend's funeral? What are we supposed to do with that? I think the Dark Side creators are fairly good at their work, but I didn't understand any of that. Also, Tenta's friends not sending any regards to his family seems fairly abhorrent.

  38. Sellers did have to fake an injury to get Kubrick off his back about playing yet another role in Strangelove. I just read that Ernie Hudson was nearly 40 at the time of the first Ghostbusters, which means he’s almost 80 now. That’s insane because in Frozen Empire he’s clearly the most spry by a wide margin.

  39. Elysium (leaving Netflix on Sunday) - Big dumb sci-fi movie with Matt Damon where he does action movie things. The intro scene of Elysium had me wondering where the "Press Start" button was (because it literally looked like a video game). The premise is at least different enough to be interesting, although it's not very filling as a movie. California Split (leaving Netflix on Sunday) - Robert Altman (Director) EDIT: Finished another one on Netflix... The Parallax View - Alan Pakula (Director)

  40. Their powers are more or less the same although Mystique heals faster and can likely live longer via deaging herself (she is 100+ like Logan). Basically she is a lot more skilled, and Morph's abilities may just not be able to reach as far in general.

  41. I believe someone also shouted: "Get over it, bro!" Not as bad, but when a guy mentions all of that and I believe also that his parents passed away in close proximity as mentioned in this episode, it's rough stuff. What made it surreal is the fans didn't know how to process this cause he was again off tv for several months and always presented as a certain goofball character (and now in 1993, a character from the past). When Bryan and Vinny were doing the Raw episodes from 1993-1994, as they mentioned, he's doing this all as Brutus Beefcake. Not as Ed Leslie. The guy who has had tights with part of the ass cheeks cut out is talking about his real life issues as this character in 1993 cartoon WWF. It doesn't help that I believe Vince gave the introduction that this big time legend was coming back to the WWF and then out walks BRUTUS "THE BARBER" BEEFCAKE. Lets you know how tough the next few years would be if that's a legend. And then he's out there trying to integrate it into a storyline where he's issuing an open contract challenge and the fans couldn't care less. It's wild.

  42. "Old Man Yells at Cloud" rant from me: I don't get/like recent fashion changes over the past couple of years. Short and boxy cuts on tops that make people look like they're wearing a tarp; floods-like cuff hems on pants; loud patterns on shirts; dumpy sweatshirts/sweaters; haircuts that look like they were self-administered with a butter knife; wispy mustaches. Everyone looks like shit.

  43. wouldn’t be a Marvel show/movie if it didn’t have plot holes and continuity errors. I’m just enjoying it for what it is. I loved Jean versus Madelyne, and seeing Magik/Darkchylde. That shit was dope as all hell.
