  2. Pasting Scott Keith rants in here should be a bannable offense, just for the Benoit god-complex.

  14. I think almost all fans go through a Scott Keith phase, it's like dry-humping, nothing much comes of it and you've wasted a good deal of time that could have been much better spent doing something else.

  15. My question is, did @cwoy2j have this encyclopedic knowledge of Scott Keith reviews BEFORE today, or did this self-destructive behavior start after Miami lost to Pitt? I think the former might be more troubling, honestly.

  17. I'm sure Meltzer's problem with working with editors is he strikes me as the type who's still working on the newsletter 15 minutes after it should've been at the printers. So he can't afford to take a few hours out of his schedule to get the thing proofed. I'm a (quote-unquote) editor for a living, and while his writing could be better, I look over it because he's a niche writer who writes a niche product. Would his style work in the NY Times? No. But nobody's buying the Observer because they want fine prose, they wanna read the scoopz~! And I don't think the newsletter needs to look more polished, either - it's such a niche publication that it doesn't operate under the same rules as say, Sports Illustrated. You can't hold his writing or his product to the same standard as magazines and newspapers because at the end of the day, it's still just a newsletter.

  18. Today's patch adds, among other things, the bionic elbow, testicular claw, Tanahashi's twist and shout, Hiromu's Time Bomb, more European uppercuts, airplane spin, Atlantida, Chaos Theory and hair pull/push downs. I see the alternate versions of the atomic drop keep the opponent up which is nice for certain priorities but what do the new face raking/thumbing to the eyes add the originals did not? After playing WWE 2K18 and just not really enjoying it and not even being able to download 100 caws without running into the logo limit, I think I'm going to stick with FPR as my main rasslin' game. It was always going to be the case but I don't think I'll be getting into 2k18 as much as I did 17. edit: the face rake/thumb to the eyes stuns opponents. So just like the new atomic drops, they'll work for chaining priority attacks.

  19. As for our would-be comic, even his offensive jokes don't have enough bite to be at all funny and I for one, can appreciate some pretty offensive shit, (I'm Irish, it comes with the territory, you've no idea how many "drunken Paddy" jokes I've sat through coming up on thirty years sober). Anyway you want funny and offensive. Back in the late seventies I hit on a great way to meet women. While most of my bros were doing the bar scene, I hung out by Jim Brown's house. I figured sooner or later he'd throw me one out the window...

  20. I'll always remember him as "rich boy teen No. 3" in ONE CRAZY SUMMER. In part because if you look back at him playing a "teen" in 1985, he looks exactly the same as he does now. This does not mean he looks young now. It means when he has looked 40 since he was in high school.

  22. Ended up buying a PS4 today, mostly because I want to play Nier:Automata. GameStop had the $100 off like everyone else and threw in a $50 gift card to boot. Couldn't pass it up. Whether or not I *need* a PS4 or even have time to play more games is up for debate, but there you go...

  24. I had forgotten just how bad he was, now I'm not at all sorry that I helped run his ass off the 'net. (Or at least places that I frequent). Oh well, what can you expect from someone who cuts his own hair with the propeller of a toy submarine and whose favorite band is Def Leppard?

  25. Having not seen the movie at all, but knowing how significantly it was reworked and piecing together the bits from promos that don’t show up in it, my guess is that the reason they picked such a lame villain in Steppenwolf is because stopping Evil Superman was going to be the bigger problem. But then everybody hated BvS, so JL got reworked so that bringing back Superman is a subplot to lame ass Steppenwolf. So what I’m saying is, if any of the foreshadowing from BvS lines up with JL at all, it’s probably pure luck and the least of their concerns in getting this movie made.

  36. I wouldn’t argue for better. But as good? Yeah. I think so. And actually, remarkably similar. They’re both more merchandisable brands than fully realized characters at this point, cobbled together from a fondly remembered stint as heel/tweener stable aces. Roman is closer to embracing that now, and he’s benefitting from it, whereas the Balor Club stuff looks dollar store when the Bullet Club—like them or not—are a hotter act than ever. They’re both better promos in that role—confident, astringent shit talkers, who are awful at WWE Babyface 101 monologues. Which is perhaps a little odd, because they both seem pretty easily charming and likeable when not delivering such speeches. But hey, looks help likability—except when they’re used to do the opposite—and the camera clearly loves both of them. Just depends on your type, I guess. Beyond presentation, they’re both athletic, with explosive offense, but they’re prone to move spamming, struggle a bit with keeping control segments interesting, and contrived in how they deploy their offense. Too often, opponents have to do dumb stuff or end up in positions that strain credulity, so they can hit their spots. But hey, those spots get reactions, and it’s pro wrestling. So, fine. They can both have very good matches with these ingredients, and have. Roman has probably had more—if we’re only counting WWE/NXT—but he’s had a better spot, with more opportunities. Finn didn’t hit quite the same heights with Styles—but then, he didn’t get a program and a series to do so. He also doesn’t have one of the biggest main event duds I’ve ever seen on his resume, which—his fault or not—Roman does. (WM against Triple H, just to be totally clear.) Preferences are what they are, and there is no way to evaluate this stuff totally objectively, but I don’t see a lot of space between them. And again, having thought about it a bit, I think it’s actually a bit odd—and kinda cool—how many parralels you can quite easily draw. (FWIW, I like both guys quite a bit.)

  37. Also, WWE at one point decided brand over individual. This might have been right around the time of Lesnar leaving. Of course John Cena would rise above the brand itself but there was an idea floating around that management didn't feel like they had to make the next Austin or Rock anymore. After this didn't work out, they went all in with Cena. Now they are going all in with Reigns who may or may not be the right guy. There's been a lot of shitty decisions that have led to the point where only the part timers are credible enough to be relied on to sell tickets. But the fans are also part of the bigger issue. You look at WrestleMania in Dallas and the tickets were selling slowly. That is until Shane vs. Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell was announced. Fans bought into the old guys. Then you look at the USA network. People say "ah fuck, why are Hunter and Steph on TV". Because USA says that ratings are better when they are on TV. It's easy to point to Hunter and say "oh, what an asshole" but what is he really responsible for? He runs developmental. He signs talent. He runs NXT. He's signed literally everyone in the world. Anyone who is good. The NXT program is booked like an 80's territory and makes for fantastic television. Once every few months they put on a big PPV show that leaves the audiences and the viewers satisfied. There are real stories and real payoffs. What he doesn't do is write for RAW or SDL. What he doesn't do is have the final say in what makes TV on USA. Think about that next time you want to rage.

  39. Steph, sure. But Hunter put Reigns over at Mania, put Rollins over at Mania, abd just got utterly destroyed by Strowman Sunday. What exactly does he have to do before people stop acting like it's still 2003?
