  2. Also, when Strowman came up as the Wyatts new guy, he was green as fuck, couldn't talk, and could barely wrestle. His learning curve has been nothing short of astonishing. Like, in the conversation with Angle.

  3. I came to say something about Mr. Gregory, but Elsalvajeloco has already made a very eloquent statement. He spoke at my commencement when I graduated from Hampton U in 1990. He hugged me after I received my diploma and just told me to go and live a happy life and be good to other human beings. Nothing stellar about going out to rule world or dragging society through a sea change on my own. He just wanted me to live a life of personal fulfillment with my own satisfaction being the litmus of success or failure and he wanted me to treat other people with respect. Live as an example and maybe people will follow the example. Then he signed my commencement program. I had it framed about a year ago, but now I need to find a good spot to display it at my house.

  4. It actually did take a month and a half for Daenerys to get there. Jon's road team stayed at a red-roofed inn just around the corner from the ice floe every night after the white walkers punched out for the day like Ralph the Wolf and Sam the Sheepdog.

  6. Asuka vs. Ember Moon was the match of the weekend and a MOTYC. Thought it was great on my first viewing and more the second. Jinder Mahal's shit. One of the most unlikely world champions ever. He's WWE Champion while fucking AJ STYLES is WWE United States Champion. Since John Cena dropped the WWE Championship to Bray Wyatt at Elimination Chamber 2017, the booking of the belt/title fucking sucks.

  7. Meltzer told a story a few months ago (I think it was on a radio show and not the actual WON) of how Vince specifically told Braun not to do something in the match but Braun forgot and did it. Vince started raging backstage to HHH and said something like "GOD DAMMIT! IS HE EVER GOING TO BE ABLE TO GET IT?!?!?!" And HHH just replied "You do realize this is only like his 10th match, right?"

  11. I can't follow you on that man. Everything always pointed to it being the real conflict. The fighting was a distraction that made the Andals more vulnerable. It's why the legends of the Last Hero, The Prince(ss) Who Was Promised, and Azor Ahai keep coming up. It's why magic suddenly waking up, in the forms of dragons, wildfyre, and Wights mattered. It's why he's been steadily building up two potential candidates for those heroic roles. Along the way, he deconstructed traditional fantasy. But what's the point of deconstruction if you aren't going to reconstruct it at the end? And, again, there is significance in how the story first started.

  13. I took part in DOA's 24-hour event this past weekend to raise money for school supplies for the Wattles Boys & Girls Club in Portland. This photo was after my final match, teaming with "Top Choice" Todd Royce (formerly Skag Rollins) vs. DOA tag team champions Derek Drexl & Udo. After a rather energetic brawl around the ringside area (including delivering my first and last chairshots to Drexl) I ended up tapping out to Drexl's Koji Clutch. So close to the "DOA tag team heavyweight wrestling championship of the DOA", as Todd put it, but so far. Also busted my lip pretty good on a mistimed clothesline (which was totally my fault) but it turned out to be one of the better matches I've had, and definitely one of the most fun - it took me pretty far out of my comfort zone and it was a great experience. And if you think I won even one match the entire day, you're out of your mind. (That's then-DOA Grand champion Mike Santiago flipping the bird in the background. Jerk.)

  15. It's a push alright but we've seen earlier in the card a number of wrestlers with stalled pushes who came in hot. Nakamura's in a precarious position, just like Bray, Balor, Corbin, Miz, Ambrose, et. al. before him. Sure he can thrive in the midcard and make more money, but there's also a hope that he does more than that because we all know he is better than this B-show fuck finish bull. Nakamura losing on Summerslam is not like Cena getting pinned through nefarious means on TV. He needs insulating and protecting from these nickel and dime dimbulb heel cheat bollocks. He needs to not have to make a WWE Champion get his finisher right by feeding him the arm because he's too thick to remember to go under the arm. This is - potentially - a Rusev situation, a Ryback situation, a Cesaro situation. A guy with a big upside if the downsides are downplayed. This could be a mishandling at a time when there are a lot of eyeballs and extra coverage, coverage that will tail off during the 'chase' period of this angle that may or may not culminate in his eventual win. That he gets put in there with someone who can not never no way no how have even anything close to a good, let alone great, match (part of the reason Nakamura was signed, face it) and then goes under to one finisher after taking much of the match? That's not good.

  18. It's so, so far from the biggest problem with his work, but: Jinder's gyno is just hilariously obvious, and the close-up/swoop-around shot they do during his entrance just highlights his bacne. Even putting aside the more important potential issues with steroid use for a second, if you're going to use, at least dose/stack/cycle like a professional. It's one thing to push a would-be bodybuilder; but every decent size gym in America has someone doing a better Ronnie Coleman impression.

  20. 100% of the folks in at my watch party bit on the Tormund hook. It was marvelous. The end of that episode is sooo fucking setting me up for sadness. People like Dany and Jon do not get to live happily ever after in Westeros.. I disagree with the Maisie hate. Arya is supposed to be detached and disturbing. There are moments when she is a Stark and then there are moments when she is No Man. I think that super cringe is exactly the effect they are going for. Was it me or did one of those masks resemble Littlefinger? If so, I think I may know where this may go. If the writers for GoT were also writing for Disney, I'd be far more frightened of Thanos than I am now. Every time the Night King has significant time on an episode, he shows exactly why you should be completely fucking terrified of him. I like how this show toys with deus ex machina. First show a panacea and then poison the well. The dream team killed a White Walker and several wights die spontaneously. So hey, if we focus on the White Walkers and the Night King, the war is over instantly! Yeah, tell me how that works out for you, buddy. I'm gonna cower in terror over here.. And then right before the dream team dies in a sea of undead, Dany flies in to the rescue and the dragons burn down half the zombie army in one shot! But before anyone can roll their eyes and call bullshit on lazy storytelling, the fucking Night King kills a full grown dragon BY HIMSELF... and then he FUCKING RAISES IT FROM THE DEAD~! Season 7 is fucking amazing. I'm looking forward to the season finale. I'm hoping that Cersei makes the right decision once the dream team toss a wight in her lap and tell her about the evil at her doorstep, but bullshit and fuckwittery are bound to happen.

  22. To me, Dick Gregory was able to put himself up their in terms of being a true African-American historian and scholar like a John Henrik Clarke or Dr. Yosef ben Jochannan (bka Dr. Ben) all while being an entertainer at the same time for several decades. That's an astonishing feat considering now most entertainers (including athletes) are idiotically critiqued by people who have no earthly clue about the complexities of social issues especially those dealing with race. Now that those men above aren't with us anymore (I would be remiss in leaving out Dr. Frances Cress Welsing as the most respected black female scholar), it makes their work even more valuable to black people in perhaps the most critical time for African-Americans. Even though Chappelle is known for his great social commentary, I don't know if he can hop into the same lane that Gregory did and give the same contextual understanding/meaning that Gregory was able to give. I'm not even talking just wanting to make loads of money and not alienate a crossover fanbase. I'm talking about not giving a flying fuck about the ramifications that may come with your viewpoints and delivering knowledge to folks that need it the most on a variety of platforms. I mean J. Edgar Hoover tried to have Dick Gregory killed by the mafia decades ago (it would be 50 years ago next year). Even in old age, he was as visible and speaking with the same intensity as he was in the 1960s. I dunno if any one person is that dedicated in refusing to be deterred for their cause in the entertainment industry. That's the truest form of commitment to elevating black people, especially now when black people with a platform are willing to throw their own people under the bus for any type of monetary gain. Rest in power, Mr. Gregory.

  25. I didn't mean you just that I'm seeing a lot of these gripes pop up here and everywhere. The timeline stuff is I believe because we don't have the ten episodes. But my question is are there conversations that we are missing out on? I don't believe so.. we know everyone's motivations. I don't feel like any of this "in between" journey stuff would have brought anything new to the table.

  27. The first 5 mins or so of the main event was booked almost like a well presented and well executed 2002 CZW main event, Reigns as The Messiah, Joe as Lobo, Lesnar as Justice Pain and Strowman as Zandig. Just awesome stunt spot after awesome stunt spot. So weird/awesome seeing that style in WWE.

  32. Holy fuck the first stretch of that main event. Holy fuck. It was still good after the stretcher job, but everything up to that was wrestling nirvana. Holy fuck. The rest of the show was mostly matches that ranged from slightly above average to pretty okay. Too damn long (yet Rusev can't get five minutes in six hours of show?!?) but the main event. Holy fuck.

  33. I tend to blame directing/writing more tbh. The show's had a bit of a problem (and this is of course a phenomenon that extends way beyond just this show) with wanting to depict strong women yet only knowing how/wanting to convey that in terms of being A STOIC BADASS (and kinda a bitch). Dany and Arya (and even Brienne) have gotten hurt by this [and Emilia Clarke's performance has gotten, imo, somewhat unfairly panned in some circles because of this]. One of my favorite bits about this episode, actually, was that Dany got to take off her public mask for once, when she's talking to a bedridden Jon. Clarke does, again in my opinion, a good job when she's asked to show cracks in Dany's mask. She just doesn't get asked to do it often [enough]. Arya sounded like Ramsay this week. And it feels like that's because the producers/directors think it's awesome/badass/cool or whatever, more so than their actually wanting her to come off as disturbing/evil.

  38. Wonder how different that PPV is if Nakamura doesn't drop Cena on his head and Corbin doesn't mouth off on Twitter to a veteran. Between those 2, Enzo having backstage heat, people still down on Owens for his appearance and even Rusev still seemingly being punished for going public with his engagement...so many results decided by "Ehh, fuck this guy".
