Didnt see the whole thing on youtube, but still my favorite titans episode (but admittedly havent watched the doom patrol stuff since it aired).

That was one I saw.  Like a lot of the show, I thought it was artistically well done (the psychedelic, almost The Thief and the Cobbler-esque chase scene is the best part) but in hindsight it made NO sense.  As cool as it was to have Malcolm McDowell voicing Mad Mod as the deranged headmaster of a torturous boarding school... uh... why was he doing this?  The episode literally gave no explanation whatsoever for what his motivation was, or what goal he was trying to accomplish.  We don't know who he is, why he kidnapped the Titans, why he tries to hypnotize them, what "lesson" he's trying to teach them.  The show didn't even try to explain what he was doing or why.  That's bad writing, and it's hard to ignore even when they're trying to distract us with the legitimately funny running joke of how Beastboy is so dumb that he's instantly hypnotizable in less than a second.

Aren't most people more annoyed about Young Justice.

Annoyed it was cancelled is the only thing annoying about YJ. I was a doubter at first cause I was so attached to the Timm universe, but once I actually watched the show I was blown away.

the same thing applies to Brave and the Bold, which I adore.

I think most of the people complaining about Go are ones that were kids when the old sore was on.

Yeah, that's the impression that I get.  Which is a really petty thing to get hung up on.  I loved the G1 version of Transformers when I was a kid, but I have no problem admitting that Prime is a better show.

Annoyed that it died and Teen Titans Go not only lives but does colossal ratings or what not. They've even gone out of their way to mock Young Justice on the show at least once, right? That's the sad truth. We all want B: TAS but the key range is 8 and under and they want something a lot less polished.

Anyway, I really liked Teen Titans, especially when they started branching out and getting a bit more serious (it never lost the absurdity, but later seasons tipped more serious) and I enjoy Go, and I liked YJ. *shrug*

I wholeheartedly second this! My daughter and I have been working our way through BATB. I can't get enough of it. I've heard that YJ may return on Netflix. That'd be awesome.

No mockery.

Watched Justice League vs. Teen Titans tonight.  There was plenty I was fond of like again Raven and Beast Boy down, the lack of Nightwing, and focus on Damian for a story that was more Raven's. Still they managed to make it all work out for a decent film. I just would have preferred a flat out Teen Titans film either focused on the original crew for the Raven/Trigon story or focused on a new crew initiating Damian into the team.

I addressed the diversity thing for the new show in another thread.  But Justin Marks, the writer of the new Jungle Book movie, wrote a Voltron movie script about 9 years ago that was basically like Mad Max where Voltron shows up at the end.  The lineup went like this:

Keith is basically Jason Statham.

Lance is black.

Pidge is Japanese.

Hunk is Middle Eastern.

Sven is the guy who starts off on the side of the good guys but becomes a turncoat at the end.

Here:

Pidge has been gender-flipped into a girl, so at least you understand why a girl is voicing her.  Sven is now Shiro, based on the name of his original Japanese counterpart.  Not sure if Keith and Lance are meant to be white or mixed race.  Hunk, I'm not sure either.  Hunk looks like he could be of Latin descent here, but not sure.  Either way, I would say making one of the main cast members from male to female and making the leader Japanese American is a pretty diverse main cast.

And Allura is dark-skinned, or maybe olive skinned? But then she's an alien, and so is her butler Coran, who is part alien but speaks with an annoying Australian accent.

Spoiler

I assumed Hunk was East Asian, where as Shiro was Japanese. I mentioned in the other thread i didnt notice Pidge was a girl; assumed it was the classic super smart pre-teen boy archetype. I did it odd the princess had a british accent, but her comic relief advisor had an Aussie accent.

I think they were trying TOO hard to re-create the Avatar aesthetic.  I would've toned down the humor more and made it a bit more like the Thundercats reboot.  Then again that show didn't have a lot of success despite its high quality.  But I think they had enough humor in there when appropriate, but here it's like the goofy super-deformed facial expressions of Avatar plus a lot of the characters being wise guys.  Like they really beat us over the head with Coran being this eccentric, foreign alien...who sounds like he's from Australia.

They basically morphed Lance into Sokka.

Now to be clear, to me it's not like they violated my childhood or anything.  I watched Voltron when I was a kid sure, but I was never all that steadfastly dedicated to it like I was to maybe other properties.  I think you had to sort of revamp the whole tone and style of the old show to make it digestible to today's audience.  Avatar created two of the most beloved modern animated action adventure shows ever.  The shows were celebrated and broke boundaries and had a lot of crossover appeal.  I'm fine that they changed a lot of things up here, like changing Pidge's gender.  The only thing I really remember about Pidge in the old show was that he was the runty braniac of the group, but I think he was the only member of the group who managed to get some sugar from Allura.  Then again if they made bigger changes to a show I was more deeply invested in, I might have more pause about it.

But when you have Coran, who in the original series was more of this elder statesman type and ally to the group, being this really sassy, odd alien type who is at odds with Earth's customs because he's this regal Australian alien dude...and every one of his lines is basically a gag...it gave me a headache.

I was fine with Zarkon's voice.  He sounded cool and powerful.  He was way OP here, and I was fine with that as well.  But we didn't learn a whole hell of a lot about Zarkon and his Empire. For starters, how the has been waging a campaign unopposed for 10,000 years?  Does his species just naturally live that long?  Even for an alien, 10,000 years has to be a long damn time.  Has he just been basically been playing No Man's Sky and visiting every planet he can find?  Like how has he been able to go on a conquest that long where he's the sole leader?

An aristocratic Brit, and a comedic Australian sidekick?

As I said in the Anime thread, the new Voltron is terrible. Pooorly animated, poor writen... it made the cookie cutter plots of the original look like fucking Shakespeare. I hate Corran and REALLY hate Allura. I hate that the first episode crammed the original search for the lions arc in to a single pilot episode. Also if you didn't see the heel turn coming then I don't know what to tell you.

God I hope they don't get ambitious wuth this and decided to remake Dairugger XV Voltron (I've always liked Dairugger XV better than the Golion version)

Nah, they'll just go back to the original idea and remake Daltanious.  Or maybe even Albegas...

Don't get me started. I have about 20 and the Batmobile and I'm probably rube enough to drop $75 US as a Canadian for the Batman/Robin with cloth capes so they can sit in my Batmobile (and plane when that happens)

I'd ask more about your cool collection but I don't want to get you started.

It'll inevitably show up in the shelf porn thread. But taking pictures of everything is an endeavor given that it's spread across three rooms and I still have shit boxed up. 'Excessive' is a word for it.

Didn't mean to divert from your joy though. That figure is awesome and I'm glad you enjoy it. If possible I highly recommend nabbing more of the line because they are all distressingly well done even if they don't all stand super well.

You didn't divert from my joy, mate. I have this figure and a 20inch 50cm Batman from The New 52 both in packaging. Won't surprise to know which one I prefer ; )

I spotted figures from Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures I've never seen in my other visits to the shop. My Batman was one. Guy who served me said they're snapped up quickly. Not surprised. I'd think some are more popular than others?
