FEBRUARY 2019 WRESTLING DISCUSSION.

Recommended Posts

Two quick random things in no way related to ongoing discussion.

ROH on Stadium: I'm a cord cutter who uses Sling for the majority of my TV.  The only affiliates I get up here in the DC burbs are my local NBC and FOX stations, neither of which is owned by Sinclair, so I don't get ROH.  Sling just added Stadium and Comet, both Sinclair channels.  Stadium has "ROH wrestling" listed in their channel guide but no description.  Does anyone know if these are new episodes, best-ofs, old episodes, what?

A fun new expression!  I listened to Cabana's latest podcast, a live one from the Jericho cruise.  He had a quick sit down with the Briscoes and Mark, describing Jay's wrestling style, called him "stiff as a wedding dick."  I laughed and laughed.

In addition, it makes more sense for this.

People mock the "you're trying to win by running away from the opponent- how cowardly is that", but on the opposite side, with the Bruno one, it's basically "The hero beats their villain to a pulp, and then when they have them where they want them, the villain begging for mercy, the hero with the chance to end their career for good with one killing blow...the hero just looks at the villain, sees them as they are, and says "You're pathetic. You're not even worth my time", and just walks away.

There are manly finishes, and there are the type of finishes that instantly make the viewer grow a beard. And a good beard, not one of those hipster beards either.

Seriously if you have WWE Network and have not watched the steel cage matches that are in the Bruno Sammartino Collection, correct that error today. I believe there are matches against Ivan Koloff and Stan Hansen, and both of them really reinforced that in that era the story of the cage wasnt "who will escape first?" but "who will walk away from the cage after beating their opponent half-to-death?"

Strange that they headline it with the stalking, and just mention the child porn a few paragraphs down. If he's 36 now, he must have only been like 18, 19 when he was starting SSS. I don't think he ever mentioned liking football here either, even though they're identifying him as owner of a Man City fan site.

The ROH Wrestling channel description is that week's episode of the syndicated ROH TV show.

SSS meaning Strong Style Spirit, the NJPW fan site that was only ever positive (something about how watching matches with a critical, reviewers eye was making him not enjoy them, so he decided to just fanboy over everything instead). The only actual interaction I remember having with him was when NJ signed that guy who'd played International Rugby (I forget his name. He went to Smackdown after) he was put in a stable called the Swing Lows, and Stuart Max didn't get the reference. Admitted to not getting it. So I pointed out it was a reference to England Rugby (Union, not league) fans singing Swing Low Sweet Chariot because they just like the song or something*. And then he acted all 'I knew that all along, nobody had to tell me' about it.

* Welsh Rugby fans tend to respond by singing "You can stick your fucking Chariots up your arse". It's not a very good song, it's only got one line. Very repetitive. Also anatomically unlikely.

If you liked New Japan or Puroresu in general between about 2000 and 2012, you inevitably would know who Stuart is or one of his sites or the ones in his network(PuroFan, NOAH fansite, AJPW fansite, others) or his message board. Kind of the same with Zach Arnold with Puroresu Power.

I remember his gigantic overreaction when Yuji Nagata got knocked out by Mirko Cro Cop in seconds a few days before a Tokyo Dome show, acting like it was the end of Nagata's career.

I also remember him coming onto IRC bragging that he found Yutaka Yoshie's theme song but wouldn't be sharing it with anyone because it would erase his effort or something like that. It was utterly silly.

So needless to say him being a weirdo stalker doesn't surprise me, but the porn mockups, yikes.

Losing to Cro Cop did have a severe detrimental effect on his career and New Japan in the long run as well as the heat of the crowd in his match against Akiyama. That stuff did matter. He just built himself back up enough until they fed him to Fedor. Anything else, yeah he was a weirdo. He thought RATM and Tool were the same band trying to mock me about liking RATM like 16 years ago. So, all is well. I'm wondering if the child images were going to be used for further extortion attempts or you know, the obvious.

I've been trying to find a photo of his shitty haircut for years. The only thing he had going for him before he got really fat. It looked like a weird starfish. I wish it showed it all, but you get the idea.

Holy shit, THAT is what it looks like? Wow. It really is like an octopod attached itself to his dome. I'd only seen happy pink Yoshie up til now.

Back to the cage convo, there are two War Games on the PR set that rule, el Gran Guerrera 1 and 2. In one the technicos take it then the rudos get their revenge. Tons of blood and surprisingly effective guest appearances by Brody and Shieky Baby.

Its in the General Puroresu topic. This was not something I ever would have guessed, but I never really talked to Stuart much when I was on SSS. Still feels surreal since what I did get of there never hinted to something like this.
