And the Mariners finally get around to firing Jack Zduriencik

But team president Kevin Mather told Lloyd McClendon his job was safe, and he would work for whoever the new GM is. Cuz forcing a manager onto a GM always works well.

Any GM worth his salt will insist on firing Mclendon. I imagine he just told Lloyd that to be nice or whatever. Well that and to avoid having to pay a interim coach for the last month of the season. . . .

The mariners followed up the firing by demoting Mike Zunino and his OPS+ of 50. Dude is trying out for the Ray Oyler All-Star team or something.

Which makes very little sense because the AAA season ends in like 12 days doesn't it?

Also, Mather is now saying that he is only going to recommend to whoever the new GM is that Lloyd and his staff all keep their jobs. Ultimate decision will rest with whoever is hired.

How has attendance in Toronto been this year?

As far as i know, okay before trade deadline, crazy after it. I think at least 3 sellouts, including yesterday and possibly all three games this weekend.

Rest of the season is pretty much sold out.  before the deals the attendance was puttering along in the bottom third of the league

The Mets are pushing postseason ticket access so you know we are doomed.

The Jays started selling them to season ticket holders last week

All teams currently in the lead or within a certain distance of the playoffs are required by MLB to begin selling playoff tickets by a certain date.

True but the Mets are dangling postseason access to get people to put down deposits for next year which feels like inviting the collapse. But actually the real reason we are doomed is because Mike Francessa said we are a lock to win the division.

Wow those prices. By comparison cheapest Mets strip is $740 US for whole playoffs. WC/NLDS are $42 per game, $50 for NLCS and $125 for WS. And Rogers holds about 10,000 more people than Citi to boot.

re: playoff tickets. Whatever tickets don't get used get rolled over to a credit on your STH plan the next year. My dad had Phillies credits roll over in 2010-2013 (yes, they sold tickets in 2013, and yes, pops paid for them since they were getting the STH money anyway).

It's also not uncommon to use playoff tix as an early bird chance for STH the next year. Figure there's gonna be a spike anyway since the team is having a good year, why not let the people willing to throw down a shitload of money on playoff tix get first dibs on those that sign up during the offseason?

Difference in Canadian $ vs. US $, perhaps?

CDN is 75% of USD so it should be more but the Jays prices are almost double the Mets which amazed me. On a weird side note a large cup of Tim Hortons in Canada costs less in CDN money than a medium cup in NYC costs in US funds.
