A Guy Named Tracy Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Didn't he heel turn on The Stomper or something? I remember something like that from WotD or something. Bad News attacked longtime heel The Stomper and his "son" in a 6 man tag match causing Stomper to become a mega babyface. This angle caused Ed Whalen to quit Stampede due to its violence. If you can find it, watch The Stomper's post-match interview. It is an amazing promo.
A Guy Named Tracy Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Speaking of Bravo, has their ever been an in-depth article written about his murder? Google searches and Slam Sports website have come up negative. The story I've heard is that he got caught up in the black market cigarette trade in Canada and was executed. Was anyone arrested? This would be a perfect topic for one of those Investigation Discovery crime shows.
PetrolCB Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I think the most in depth story you'll get, is from Martel or Jacques Rougeau's shoot. Unless Meltzer wrote one, in that case, I'm wrong.

This would be a perfect topic for one of those Investigation Discovery crime shows. As far as I know, no one was ever arrested for Bravo's murder. Meltzer's Tributes book says that Bravo was found by his family slumped over in his chair with seventeen bullets in him with no forced entry, sign of struggle or neighbors hearing any shots fired. So the story is that he knew his killers and they took him out for some kind of wrong he committed. And does a tape of the Allen/Stomper's son beatdown even exist? Every video I've seen always edits it out and goes right to the Stomper's promo. It's been one of those moments that people always talk about, but no one seems to have actually seen.
Bustronaut Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I was just watching a Mickie James/Gail Kim match as part of a "botches" video and the ref counted the pinfall standing outside the ring. It was the most interesting thing about the entire video, as I assumed the ref always had to be IN the ring (unless in a falls count anywhere match) to count. It's kind-of messing with my head.
Red is Dead Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 If i remember right - the original in your house had a ref count standing outside the ring. I think it involved Sid pinning tatanka? 1
Phantom Lord Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I think the most in depth story you'll get, is from Martel or Jacques Rougeau's shoot. Unless Meltzer wrote one, in that case, I'm wrong. Theres an interview I read that was maybe about from 2000-2001ish with Rick Martel not to long ago where he said who ever killed Dino had to be someone he was possibly a friend with because apparently how he was found according to the crime scene report. Ah here's where I saw it. On Reddit. It's a transcript of his RF Shoot. http://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/1bhmgm/the_murder_of_dino_bravo/ They'd pumped ten bullets in his head. There was no force of entry in his house...and it was the winter, so you could see there would [have been] footprints [in the snow outside]- but there were none. They had somebody...an inside person. It was probably someone who was watching hockey with him and said, 'Hey look, Dino, I'm gonna go to the bathroom...' They shot him from behind. The detective told us that the remote control was loose in his hand...they say that if they shoot you from the front you [see it coming and] tense your muscles and [he would have gripped] that remote control [tightly at the point of death]. So they shot him from behind...he didn't see anything..." Speaking of Jacques Rougeau, I was just watching the clip of him beating Hogan in Montreal. There was video on the big screen above the ring so does that mean there is professional footage of this show somewhere? Since it was billed a WCW would it be buried somewhere in their tape vaults or was it just something the arena was doing.
Ryan Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Was Inoki treated like a heel outside Japan? Not really familiar with that.
cwoy2j Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 The magazines loved Bravo, always pushing as a threat. I think it came from the Montreal house show where he laid out Hogan. I remember that PWI magazine that had the picture of him bearhugging Hogan into oblivion with the title, "The man Hulk Hogan can't beat!"

I believe it was Martel's shoot. He said something like Bravo had a friend over to watch hockey, the guy said he had to go to the bathroom as an excuse to get behind Bravo and shot him in the back of the head. Edit--should've read the whole thread. Someone above me explained it.

I recall Tommy Young having to stand on the floor to count a few times. Guys would be close to the ropes so he would stand on the outside to get a better vantage point of their shoulders to see if they were down and if they were, he'd just start counting there. 1
RIPPA Posted July 17, 2014 Author Posted July 17, 2014 Yeah - Tommy Young did it a bunch because he would always slide to get into position and if the pinfall was close to the ropes he ended up sliding out of the ring.

There was a discussion about best ring sliders a while back. Tommy Young has to be up there.
RIPPA Posted July 17, 2014 Author Posted July 17, 2014 I just watched him do the standing pinfall count in a match but I am blanking on what the match was. Possibly one of the Flair/Funk matches I remember because the cameraman was in the way and Tommy yelled at him which made me chuckle more than it should
RandomAct Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Was Inoki treated like a heel outside Japan? Not really familiar with that. WCW always treated him as a babyface the few times they brought him in. Put him over as a legend, etc. On that note, I'm a little surprised that the Collision in Korea show isn't on the Network.
Ryan Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I'm curious how he was treated in WWWF and Europe and anywhere else.
Dewar Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Bad News Allan turning on Archie "The Stomper" Gouldie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OS6mMfTrOWU Bad News was a face in Stampede for a little bit as well, in addition to his Florida face run.

See, that's the clip I'm talking about. Bad News is about to beat the living shit out of Stomper's son, and then boom, it's over and Allen is gloating over it. Is that how it was broadcast because it was too over the top or does the actual beating aside from the first twenty seconds exist?
Dewar Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 The actual beating never aired. Bad News piledrove the kid on the floor, full stretcher job, apparently tons of chaos at the Pavillion. Whelan legit quit the show due to the incident. Would love to see the footage of what happened though. 1
BurningBeard Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 oh man I'd love to have been in the crowd for that. Bet the atmosphere was intense!
The Green Meanie Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I'm curious how he was treated in WWWF and Europe and anywhere else. He was always treated as a babyface in WWWF. They did the whole "martial arts expert, international superstar" bit for him.
CanadianChris Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Yes, Whalen had the footage cut from the broadcast. Similar to Portland Wrestling not being allowed to show the Santa Rip angle.

They did the whole "martial arts expert, international superstar" bit for him. He was a face in the territories too, although he was often given a silly name like "Tokyo Tom" or "Kazimoto."
Spritenaut 32 Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Realized something interesting today: Subscribing to the WWE Network has got me re-interested in wrestling while killing my interest in the current product and the Network itself. Basically, I've been watching WWF 1989-2994 and early 90's WCW, as well as the little bit of territory footage available. This has gotten me re-interested in the 80's territories as well as early 90's WCW and WWF. On the other hand, though, I've lost all interest in the current product (or, really, anything after 1996 except maybe the last year of USWA). Quit watching RAW, watched the last couple PPV but didn't really care if I caught them or not. Not much interest in TNA or the indys. I've also found that I'm watching even footage available on the Network on VHS or DVD. Too many gaps when it comes to WCW, WCCW, etc. Even some gaps in 80's/90's WWF (like the Saturday Night Main Event specials just now becoming available). I'm a completest. I enjoy watching the angles develop. The Network is more useful to me if I just wanted to watch PPV and old episodes of RAW. Anyway, the Network has so much, it's a great value, but I'm sure I'll drop it once my six month commitment is up. And RAW isn't even on my radar right now. Kinda doubt this is the reaction Vince was going for.
